Guy H. (Harrison) Root
Mr. Root was born March 05,1839 in Washington (Decatur) County Ohio. His parents were Johnathan W.(Warren) Root SR. and Candace Ingraham . His siblings were George Harris Root, Sarah Almeda Root, Horace Root, William Welcome Root, Oliver Root,Rohey Root, Johnathan Warren Root JR,Eli Root, Caroline Root, Amanda Root. He was the youngest in his family and his mother died before 1850. Guy was married three times his first wife was Caroline Collins, second wife was Cynthia Emma, and his third wife was Catherine Robbins whom was born in Noble County Ohio in 1848 and passed in 1915 at Dallas County MO. They were married about 1878 in Cooper County . Catherine died of the measles. She is buried at Cedar Ridge Cemetery . His children were Rose Root born in 1861, Cynthia L Root born in 1869, Jesse Root born in 1879, Dora Root born in 1868, Ida E Root born in 1870 , Eva Mae Root born 1880 and Harry Harrison born in 1892. He passed away in Blackwater, MO on January 20 1918 at 78 years old.(MO Death Certificate). He is buried in Peninsula Cemetery at Blackwater, MO.
His family moved to the Blackwater, MO area about 1860, (Father Johnathan W Root SR and his brother Johnathan Warren Root JR ) and someone in the Root family has resided in Cooper County ever since; many being farmers. Guys father passed away in Lamine township between 1860-1868 and his brother and his family moved to south Missouri and later his brother died in Nebraska.
Mr. Root was a Private in the Civil War and served on the Union Side. He can be found on Cooper County Pensioners List on MO GEN WEB. His war reference history (Ancestry Illinois,Database of Illinois Veteran Index 1775-1995. (He was 5ft. 8 inches,  fair complexion, light hair, blue eyes, and a farmer by trade. He joined Unit 110th Illinois Infantry Consolidated Unit . He was 23 years old, and his entry date 15
August 1862 at Ashley IL; and mustered out 11 Sept 1862 at Anna, IL.
Guys paternal grandparents were Oliver Root and Margaret (Unknown) from Strafford, Orange County, Vermont. While Mr. Root lived in Washington County (Decatur) Ohio as a child his father helped build a church (United Brethren Church) and his Uncle was the first school teacher in Decatur Township, His Uncle William was a prominent citizen that owned a large farm and the area was called Roottown, and a wooden covered bridge is on the Ohio Historical List that is located nearby where his property was also named Root Bridge.
