James Randolph (Randy) Bach of Bourbon, Missouri, passed away Saturday, July 14, 1990, at the age of 20 years.

Randy, as he was known by his family and friends, was born to James and Beverly Fulks Bach on December 1, 1969 at Sullivan. He had lived the majority of his in the Sullivan / Bourbon area and was a 1989 graduate of Bourbon High School. Randy was employed for a time at Hardee’s Restaurant in Sullivan and was currently employed with the Cope Plastics Company in Wood River, Illinois. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Randy also enjoyed the company of his many friends.

Surviving along with his parents, Jim and Beverly are; four sisters, Angela Pinnell and husband, Mark, of Leasburg, Wendy Nye and husband, Jeff, of Sullivan, Melissa and Jamie Bach both of the family home; one step-sister, Julie Vogler; his grandmothers, Marguarette Bach of Stanton, and Lillie Fulks of Bourbon; his fiancée Dee Widerman of Sullivan; two nieces, Natasha Pinnell and Amber Vogler; two Nephews, Mark Pinnell and Chris Vogler; aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted 1 P.M., Tuesday, July 17, 1990, from the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, with Pastor Scott Perry officiating. Interment was in Sullivan Cemetery, Stanton. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan.

 

Carrie Bacialli nee Espen was born on September 28, 1895 at St. Louis, Missouri to the union of John Espen and Marina Isma Epson and passed away on January 19, 1990 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 94 years, 3 months and 21 days.

Carrie was united in marriage to Joseph Bacialli. They had a long and happy marriage until Joseph preceded Carrie in death in 1954.

Carrie was preceded in death by two brothers, John (Jack) Espen, Joseph Espen and one sister, Mary Fanetti.

Carrie was a member of the Holy Cross Church of Cuba, Missouri. She was a loving wife, sister, aunt, good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed.

Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her loving brother, Otto Espen; nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Carrie Bacialli nee Espen was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri where a Vigil Service was held on Sunday, January 21, 1990 at 7:30 P.M. Funeral Services were held Monday, January 22, 1990 at the Holy Cross Church of Cube, Missouri at 12 noon with Father Steve Faletti officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Olive Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.

 

Annie Violet Bacon of Bourbon passed away Friday, July 3, 1992, at the age of 97 years.

Annie was born December 21, 1894 to Charles E. and Mary E. Bacon, nee Rowland, at Argo, Missouri. She was a life-long resident in the Sullivan/Bourbon area, where she taught for a time in the rural school system. She was also a housekeeper for many years. Annie was a member of the United Methodist Church of Bourbon, where she held the longest membership on record. She also was a member of the Royal Neighbors for many years. Annie enjoyed keeping a vegetable garden and raising flowers.

She is survived by one niece, Willa Mathews and husband, Leonard, of Springfield, Mo.; two great-nephews, Charles Mathews of Springfield and Bob Mathews of Henderson, Nevada; two great-great nephews, one great-great-niece, other relatives and friends. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Virgil Bacon, and one sister, George Curnutt.

Funeral services were conducted 2 P.M. Monday, July 6, !992, from the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, with Rev. Kenneth Attix officiating. Interment was in the Bacon Cemetery, Bourbon, Mo.

 

Charlettia A. Bacon of Bourbon passed away Monday, Aug. 17, 1992 at the age of 75 years.

Mrs. Bacon was born March 6, 1917, to Ray E. Ellison Campbell and the late Charles Otis Dunkel at Tarkio, Montana. As a youngster, she had also lived in Colorado and Idaho. At the age of 12, she moved with her family to the Sullivan Area where she has since lived. On Jan. 23, 1937, she was married to Oram F. Bacon at Steelville, and to this marriage five children were born. Me. Bacon preceded her in death in 1981. Mrs. Bacon was employed in various jobs around the area but her first devotion was to her family and raising her children.

She is survived by her mother, Ray E Campbell of Bourbon; three daughters, Alice Nye and husband, Roy, of Bourbon, Mary Blender and husband, John, of Lebanon and Charlene Copeland and husband, Robert, of Orangevale, Calif.; two sons, Raymond Bacon and wife, Linda, of Sullivan and Oram Bacon and wife, Janis, of Shipman, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Lena Tourville of Sullivan and a brother-in-law, Floyd Bacon of Washington; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Along with her father, Mrs. Bacon was preceded in death by her step-father, Leroy Campbell and by a brother, Raymond Dunkel.

Graveside funeral services were conducted at 10 A.M. Thursday, Aug. 20, !992 at Crow Cemetery, Sullivan, with the Rev. Robert Tourville officiating. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan.

 

Ross E. Bacon of Bourbon, Passed away Tuesday, March 21, 1995 at the age of 74 years.

Mr. Bacon was born April 23, 1920 in the Bourbon area near Japan to the late George and Ida (Johnson) Bacon.  He had lived his entire life in the Bourbon area except for three and a half years when he was honorably serving his country during W.W. II. Mr. Bacon was in the Army Air Corp and participated in the invasion of Normandy. On July 19, 1945 he was married to Nellie Adams at Rolla, Missouri. Ross was a 252 year employee of the Proctor Products Company in Bourbon until ill health caused his retirement. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #81 of Bourbon.

He is survived by his wife Nellie, one son Barry of Norwich, England, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, all of Norwich, England, nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, Lenora and Evelyn Adams, a brother-in-law, Walter Adams, other relatives and friends. Mr Bacon was preceded in death by two brothers in early childhood, Estell and George Bacon, one sister, Marie Tiefenbrunn, and two brothers-in-law Richard Adams and Roy Tiffenbrunn.

Funeral services were conducted 1 P.M. Thursday, March 23, 1995 from the Eaton Chapel in Bourbon with Pastor Chris McCutchen officiating. Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Chapel, Bourbon.

 

Arthur Lee Bailey, husband of Mary Schults Bailey, and son of the late Silas and Sarah Helms Bailey, passed away at Sullivan, Missouri, Wednesday, December 7, 1988, at the age of 94 years.

He was born September 27, 1894 at Spring Bluff, Missouri. He lived and farmed most of his life in the Sullivan-Gerald area. On Jusy 30, 1916 he was married to Mary Schults at Sullivan, Missouri and to this marriage 10 children were born of which a son, Walter Eugene Bailey, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Mary; five sons, Edgar, Kenneth, Junior and Lilburn Bailey, all of St. Louis area; four daughters, Francis Campbell of Festus, Missouri, Thelma Chapel of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Shirley Smith and Darlene Bailey, both of Owensville, Mo.,; thirty grandchildren, forty-five great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Bailey was also preceded in death by one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday, December 10, 1988 from the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri, with Pastor William E. Norris officiating.

Burial was in the Cave Spring Cemetery, Sullivan, Missouri.

 

Charles Edward Bailey of Cuba, Mo., son of the late Edith Bailey, was born May 7, 1938 at St. Clair, Mo., and passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 1996 at the home of James and Callie Hollingshead, having attained the age of 58 years.

He is survived by a sister, Nova Head and husband of Sullivan; a sister, Garra Woemmel, and husband, Raymond Woemmel, of Bland; dear friends, James and wife, Callie Hollingshead, of Cuba; brother, Melvin Harman; and many nieces and nephews’ and a host of friends; also a special little friend, Lindsay Rodgers.

Charles Bailey worked in the area as a sawmill laborer.

Memorial services were held at 10 A.M. Saturday, July 6, 1996, at Hassebroek-Felton Chapel in Sullivan.

All arrangements were under the direction of Hassebroek-Felton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

 

Brad B. Baker, Prosecuting Attorney of Crawford County, passed away Sunday, November 8, 1998, in St. Louis, Mo. having attained the age of 46 years.

Brad was born November 7, 1952, in Independence, Mo. to Arthur Leroy “Roy” and Joyce D. Baker Nee Day.

He is survived by his mother, Joyce Baker of Sunrise Beach, Mo.; one brother, Max B Baker and wife, Sandra of Arlington, Texas; one niece, Johanna Baker; and one nephew, Benton “Ben” Baker of Arlington, Texas; other relatives and friends.

Brad grew up in Odessa, Mo. where he attended and graduated from Odessa High School in 1971. He Graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1976, and he graduated from St. Louis University Law School in 1979.

Brad was a very civic minded citizen and a member of the Catholic Church. The Lebanon Masonic Lodge #77 A.F. and A.M. The Crawford County Democrats, The Missouri State Bar Association, The Nevada State Bar Association, and was elected Prosecuting Attorney of Crawford County in 1994, and he had been in the Missouri National Guard, and on the Committee of Legislative Reserch for the Mo. General Assembly; Appellate Division of Missouri Public Defender, Columbia, Missouri. Brad will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all that knew him.

Brad loved to travel and he loved history, especially English history; he enjoyed classical and jazz music, antiques, and his dog “Amedeus

Brad was preceded in death by his father, Roy Baker.

Memorial service was held Wednesday, November 11, 1998, at 7:30 P.M., at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo. followed by a Masonic Service by Lebanon Lodge #77 A.F. & A.M.

Memorial service was held Friday, November 13, 1998, at 1:30 P.M., at the Jones Funeral Home in Odessa, Missouri. Interment followed in the Gleenton Cemetery in Odessa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested memorials be given to Lebanon Lodge #77 A.F. & A.M. in memory of Brad B. Baker.

All arrangements were under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.

 

Donald J. Baker, of Sullivan, passed away Saturday, March 6, 1999, at the age of 78 years.

Mr. Baker was born June 26, 1920, at Charlotte, Michigan, to the late Merle and Pearl (Clapper) Baker. He honorably served his country in the United States Army, from 1941 until 1945, with the 978th Field Artillery Battalion, and was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with five Bronze stars.

While stationed in Fort Leonard Wood , he met Alice Williamson, and they were  married February 5, 1943, and recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. Mr. Baker was employed 32 years as General foreman for the farmer Ramsey Corporation.

He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and golfing, but his great joy in life came from his family. Mr Baker was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, a man of honor and integrity.

He professed his faith in Jesus Christ, was baptized in March, 1972, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Sullivan. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Alice, of Sullivan, one son, Don D. Baker, and wife Patricia, of Sullivan, two daughters, Susan Hinson and husband, Pastor Richard Hinson, of St. Clair, Mo. and Judith Corethers and husband, Ed. Of Sullivan, one brother, Roger Moore and wife, Carol. Of Lady Lake, Fl. One sister, Pauline Ingman and husband, Abe of Flint, Mi., twelve grandchildren, Alan Fallon of Bourbon, Kris Strauser, Pastor David Dixon and Wife, Tabitha, of Benton, Ar., Pastor Brian Dixon and wife Krista, of Tallula, Ill., Douglas, Laura, and Brandon Baker on Sullivan, Autumn Hooper and husband, Leonard of St. Louis, Joshua, EIlzabeth and Kathleen Hinson, and Rhonda Fallon, all of St. Clair, seven great-grandchildren, Jordon and Kylie Strauser, Steven Fallon, Sable, Sierra and Sophia Dixon, and David Paul Dixon II, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 9, 1999, from First Baptist Church in Sullivan with Pastor Brian Dixon officiating. Interment was in New Rock Cemetery, Bourbon, Mo.

 

James Edward Baker, son of the late Edgar Lewis and Lillie June Taylor Baker was born on August 9, 1911 in Bourbon, Mo., and departed this life on February 14, 1992, at the Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, having reached the age of 80 years, six months, and five days.

Jim was a longtime resident of Bourbon where he was employes as a truck driver for Hartung Hauling for over 30 years, until his retirement. He was later engaged in farming.

On June 1, 1940, in St. Louis, he was united in marriage to Nettie Bouse.

Surviving him are his wife, Nettie, a daughter, Mary Jones and husband Randy or Waterloo, Ill., a son James Baker and wife Sandra of Walton, Nebraska, two sisters, Edna Randall of Omaha, Nebraska, Lea Bock of LaSalle, Colorado, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Baker.

Funeral services were held at 2 P.M. Sunday from the First Baptist Church in Bourbon with Pastor Wexford Parmer and Pastor William Myrick officiating. Intermant was in the Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, Mo.

Funeral arrangemrnets were under the direction of Hassebroek’s Bourbon Chapel, Bourbon, Mo.

 

James Wesley Baker of Steelville, Missouri was born, May 11, 1915, at Viburnum, Missouri, a son of the late, Lewis N. and Minnie (Chapman) Baker and passed away May 27, 1985 at Georgian Gardens Nursing Home, Potosi, Missouri at the age of 70 years and 16 days.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two sisters, Goldie Anderson and Sylvia Massucci.

Those who remain to mourn his passing are three sisters, Velta Fox of Steelville, Missouri; Angie Kohler of St. Louis, Missouri and Edna Allen of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers, Ernest Baker of Afton, Missouri and Louis Baker of Middleburg, Florida; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were held at Cherryville Baptist Church, Sunday, June 2, 1985 with Rev. James Chilton, Pastor, officiating. Commital prayers and interment was in the Cherryville Baptist Cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri.

Loren Andrew Baker was born February 13, 1909, to Amos B. and Agnes (Edmondson) Baker and passed away April 4, 1989, at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 21 days.

He was married to Barbara Rhea on March 11, 1933, in the Baptist Church at Cassville, Missouri. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State College and was a teacher for over thirty years in school districts in Missouri and Illinois, serving eight years at Missouri Military Academy in Mexico, Missouri and seventeen years on the Steelville Public Schools until his retirement in 1974.

Loren joined the Baptist Church in Purdy at the age of 15. He was a deacon in the First Baptist Church in Steelville and was a training union leader, a church visitor and was serving homebound members at the time of his death.

Mr. Baker in survived by his wife, Barbara, of Steelville, Missouri, two daughters, Ann and husband Gary Nelms of Springfield, Missouri, Jane and husband Jerry Bishop of Atlanta, Georgia, five grandchildren, Andrew, Leslie and Emily Nelms of Springfield, Missouri and Rhea Ann and Brian Bishop of Atlanta, Georgia. Other close family members include a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Adine Rhea of Cooter, Missouri, one nephew, Hal Rhea, three nieces, Rebecca Smelson, Marilyn Stevens and Kathy Robinson, other relatives and many friends.

Loren Andrew Baker lay in state after 4 P.M. Thursday, April 6, 1989, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral Services were held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 7, 1989, at the First Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri, with Rev. Jesse Parrot officiating. Pallbearers were deacons from the First Baptist Church of Steelville, Jim Barksdale, Ron Bouse, Jim Brand, Charles Chipman, Wilbur Grayson, Ken Halbert, Charles Hawkins, Willis Hopkins, Rob Housewright, Art and Kent Howald, Everett Hutton, Charles Lint, Floyd Reed and Jim Vaughn. Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

 

Luttrella May Baker was born May 6, 1901 in Knoxville, Tennessee and passed away in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, Missouri, February 15, 1990, at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 9 days.

Her parents were Joseph Albert Ahler and Mary June (nee Webb).

Letrella was united in marriage to Richard E Baker in Chicago, Illinois, October 23, 1923. This union was blessed by two children, a daughter, Mary Sue and a son, Richard William Baker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Richard William Baker (January 10, 1945) and a brother, Clarence Ahler.

Lutrella accepted Christ as her personal Savoir on Easter Sunday, April 10, 1911 and united with the Second Presbyterian Church of Knoxville, Tennessee on that date. As a Minister’s wife her church letter was transferred to each church that her husband pastured. At her husband’s retirement she united with the Steelville Presbyterian Church and was a faithful member and active as long as her health permitted.

She is survived by her devoted husband of over sixty-six years, Richard Baker of the  home at Gibbs Manor Apartments, Steelville, Missouri, a loving, caring daughter, Mary Sue Baker Hamilton of Cook Station, Missouri; Also a brother, William J. Ahler and a sister Miss Alberta Ahler, both of Knoxville, Tennessee and many relatives and friends of many states of the United States.

Lutrella May Baker lay in state at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri, Sunday, February 18, 1990. Funeral Services were held 1:00 P.M. Monday, February 19, 1990 in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Susan and William Birch officiating. Committal prayers and interment were in Czar Cemetery. Pallbearers were Henry Adams, Kevin Cross, Ken Halbert, Jim Laney, Gilbert and Kenneth Turnbough. Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

 

 Nettie Marie Baker of Bourbon, Mo., daughter of the late Ferd Bouse and Myra Summers Bouse was born December 30, 1912, in Anthonies Mill, Mo., passed away Sunday, January 24, 1999, in Sullivan, Mo., having attained the age of 86 Years.

Nettie Bouse was united in marriage to the late James Baker on June 1, 1940, at St. Louis, Missouri, and to this union, one daughter was born. They moved to Bourbon after they were, married, and Nettie was a member of the Meramec Baptist Church in Bourbon, Mo.

Nettie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and Enjoyed being a homemaker and sewing. She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all that knew her.

Nettie is survived by her daughter; Mary Jones and husband, Randy, of Waterloo, Ill.; one brother; Carl Bouse and wife, Rosetta, of Anthonies Mill, Mo.; one sister; Geraldine Reiner of Bourbon; one sister-in-law; Bonnie Bouse of Bourbon; and one brother-in-law; Elmer Reed; seven grandchildren; Brent Jones and wife, Fran, of St. Louis, Angel Rudloff and husband, Randy, of Waterloo, Ill., Michelle Criswell, Carmen Turner, and Lance Baker, all of Lincoln, NE, and Kevin Baker of Charlotte, NC; nine great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Besides those previously mentioned, Nettie was preceded in death by one brother, Woodrow Bouse, and one step-son, James Francis Baker, and one sister, Wilma Lee Reed.

Visitation for Nettie Marie Baker was held from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 26, 1999, at the Hassebroek-Felton Funeral Home, Bourbon, Mo.

Funeral services for Nettie Marie Baker were conducted at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 27, 1999, at the First Baptist Church in Bourbon, Mo., with Pastor Oliver Mullen and Pastor Richard Williams officiating. Interment followed at the Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, Mo.

All Arrangements were under the care of the Hassebroek-Felton Funeral Home, Bourbon, Mo.

 

Raymond Louis Baker of Bonne Terre, Missouri, formerly of Cherryville, Missouri, was born June 4, 1937 at St. Louis, Missouri, a son of the late James Alvie Baker and Eula Irene Baker (nee Baker) and passed away, April 10, 1991 at the Regional Medical Center, Fannington, Missouri, at the age of 53 years, 10 months and 6 days.

Raymond was united in marriage to Margaret Ruth Simpson and to this union three daughters, Sue Ann, Katherine and Joyce and two sons, Carl D. Baker and Steven Baker were born. He later married Veronica Sue Rasnic and to this union one daughter, Laura Lynn and one son, Glen Ray Baker were born.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Steven Baker, two sisters, Fredia M Hardin and Thelma G. Rodgers; two brothers, Vernon Callahan and Louis Raymond Baker; Three half-brothers, Haskel, Hershell and Verl Baker; two half sisters, Verna and Evelyn Baker and one step brother, Dorman Baker.

Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife, Veronica Sue Baker of Bonne Terre, Missouri; two sons, Carl D. Baker and wife Debbie of Cuba, Missouri and Glen Ray Baker of Bonne Terre, Missouri; four daughters, Sue Ann and husband Eddie Brooks Sr. of Cherryville, Missouri; Katherine and husband Darrell Cunningham of Bourbon, Missouri and Laura Lynn and husband Al Hecke of Bonne Terre, Missouri; Clifford Callahan of Cuba, Missouri; Vercel and wife Daphna Callahan of Cherryville, Missouri and Clarence Callahan of St. Louis, Missouri; one half-brother, Marshall Baker of Burbank, California; two step-sisters., Elsie Moutrey of St. James, Missouri and Lemoin Morrison of Cuba, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, Eddie, Julie and Shawn Brooks, William Warner, Andrea, Benjamin and Lindsey Miller, Meredith Cunningham and Amanda Leann and Matthew Politte; a special friend, Opal Pierce of Bonne Terre, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.

Ran Louis Baker lay in state after 6 P.M. Thursday, April 11, 1991, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 2 P.M. Saturday, April 13, 1991 in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Randall Wallen officiating. Committal prayers and interment were in Freeman Cemetery, Pallbearers were Carl Baker, Eddie Brooks, Darrell Cunningham, Al Hecke, John Simpson and William Warner. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

 

Richard Earl Baker, son of Charles and Laura Chance Baker was born, September 7, 1899, at Rose Hill, Kansas and entered life, March 8, 1995, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, Missouri, at the age of 95 years, 6 months and 1 day.

Richard was united in marriage to Lutrella Ahler of Knoxville, Tennessee, October 23, 1923. They met at Moody Bible Institute, where they were both students and had graduated in 1922. To this union two children were born, a son Richard William Baker (Deceased January 10, 1945) and a daughter, Mary Sue Hamilton.

He was ordained to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament by the Chicago Presbytery Church in April of 1927, after graduatiog from Wheaton College and McCormick Theological Seminary. He spent about ten years each, pasturing churches in Missouri, Nebraska and Michigan, teaching in the public school in the rural Parkway School District in St. Louis, Missouri and staffing at the Pine Mt. Settlement School in Kentucky.

Richard and Lutrella retired in 1965 and moved to Cook Station, Missouri. In September 1987, they became residence of Gibbs Manor on its opening day.

Richard is survived by a devoted and loving daughter and son-in-law, Mary Sue and Rutherford Hamilton of Cook Station, Missouri; six nephews, Norman Baker of Santa Rosa, California, Howard Baker of Omaha, Nebraska, Marvin Reheis and Claude Reheis of Wichita, Kansas, William Ahler of Texas and Stephen Ahler of Washington State; two nieces, Marian BAlcock of Eureka, California and Loretta Ashby of Pekin, Illinois. He is also survived by a dear sister-in-law, Alberta Ahler of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Richard and Lutrella enjoyed a most congenial companionship for sisty-six years. Now they await the fulfillment of the Lord’s promise. “I know whom I believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed to him against that day”. II Timothy 1:12b

Rev. Richard Earl Baker lay in state after 4 P.M. Friday, March 10, 1995, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 11 A.M. Saturday, March 11, 1995, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Susan Guyer Birch and Rev. Charles D. Likely officiating. Music was provided by organist Deloris Bell.

Committal prayers and interment wre in Carr Cemetery, Cook Station, Missouri.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were Henry Adams, Carl Benton, William Birch, Craig Bryant, Homer Perkins, and Thomas Sweyers.

Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

 

Robert Tuggle Baker son of Thomas and Sally Honnoll Baker was born August 23, 1914 in Leachville, AR. And passed away September 23, 2000, in Courtois, MO., at the age of 86 years and one month.

Robert is survived by three daughters; Winiford Southard of Rolla, Mo.; Rose Lawanda Kincy and husband Steve of Jackson, Mo.; Linda Diane Crocker of Potosi. Two sons; Robert David Baker and wife Rose of Wentzelle, Mo. and Paul Edward Baker and wife Pam of Courtois, Mo. Twenty-two grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and his former wife Marie Treadway of Morehouse, Mo.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Opal Baker; one son James Robert Baker; one daughter, Glenda Betchel; one grandson, Marvin Southard; one granddaughter, Susan Joe Southard; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Thelma Justic.

Funeral services for Robert Tuggle Baker were held September 26, 2000 in the Freewill Baptist Church in Viburnum, MO. with Brother Cletus Nichols officiating.

Serving as pallbearers were Ronnie Treadway, Brian Treadway, David Poston, Donald Givens, Jerry Grusa, Rolf Ringwald.

Roy E. “Joe” Baker was born on February 22, 1926 at Hurley, Missouri to the union of Pearlie Baker and Ader Baker nee Morris and passed away on October 30, 1988 at the Harry S. Truman Hospital, Columbia, Missouri at the age of 62 years, 8 months and 8 days.

 On April 20, 1956 Joe was united in marriage to Morma Counts. One son, Randy, was born to this union. On August 12, 1944 Joe was inducted into the Armed Forces and was honorably discharged on June 25, 1946.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Lee Baker and one sister Audie Baker.

Joe was a member of the Earl Rutz Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7147. HW was a devoted father, loving grandfather, brother, good friend to all who knew him and woll be sadly missed.

Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving son and daughter-in-law Randy and Rita Baker; one brother Gene Baker; three sisters DelphiaTippy” Meyer, Ruth Fugitt and Wilma Jean Chastain; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Roy E. “Joe” Baker was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri where funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 2, 1988 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Stan Briggs officiating. Interment was in the Delpi Cemetery. VFW services were held on Tuesday, November 1, 1988 at the Britton Chapel at 7:30 P.M. by Earl Rutz Memorial VFW Post No. 7147, All Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.

 

Viola Aldophine Baldwin, daughter of the late William Thomas and Leona S. Servais Baldwin was born on September 27, 1915 in Bourbon, Missouri and departed this life on January 3, 1989 at the Sullivan Nursing Center in Sullivan, Missouri having attained the age of 73 years, 3 months and 6 days.

Viola was reared in the Sullivan Area where she was a 1933 graduate of Sullivan High School. After her graduation she attended South Western State Teachers College in Springfield where she earned her bachelor degree. She taught in the Westport Public School District in Springfield until her retirement in 1980.

She was a member of the Springfield Presbyterian Church.

Surviving her are a brother, Roy Baldwin and wife Joyce of Sullivan, Missouri, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Baldwin and a brother, William Everett Baldwin.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, January 5, 1989 from Hassebroek’s Memorial Chapel in Sullivan with Rev. Scott Perry officiating. Interment was in the New Rock Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Hassebroek’s Sullivan, Missouri.

 

William J. Ball was born at Steelville on Dec. 30, 1921, the son of the late Arthur A. Ball and his wife, Ethel Grayson Ball, and passed away at the St. John's Mercy Hospital in Washington on Sept. 4, 1992 at the age of 70 years.  He received his schooling in St. Louis and grew to young manhood there.  On March 13, 1942, he was united in marriage to Miss Marie Gulley in Tower Grove Baptist Church in St. Louis.  From 1942 to 1945 he served in the U.S. Army infantry, serving for almost two years in Central Europe, northern France,Rhineland and Ardennes, for which he received five Bronze Stars.  When he returned home from the service, he started his own decorating business (Ball Decorating) in St. Louis County.  Mr. Ball had been a member of the city council and also mayor of Charlack in St. Louis County from 1965 to 1980.  He was a member of the Overland Baptist Church.  In 1984 he retired and they moved to the Union area.  One brother, Jim Ball, preceded him in death.
 
Those who survive are his wife, Marie Ball of Union; three daughters, Barbara Carpenter of Washington, Marty Tayon and her husband, Jim, of the state of Maine, and Jackie Naumann and her husband, Wayne, of Union; and four grandchildren, Shannon and Chris Finley and Jennifer and Amy Naumann.  He is also survived by two sisters, Pat Lich and Betty Wilkenson, both of St. Louis; three brothers, Phil Ball of Kentucky, Jack Ball of St. Louis and Bob Ball of St. Charles; and many other relatives and friends.
 
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Sept. 8 from the Oltmann Funeral Home in Union by the Rev. Thomas Smith.  Interment followed in the Lakewood Park Cemetery in St. Louis.

 

Madeline Lucille K. Bandy, of Leasburg, Mi., Passed away Friday, September 4, 1998, in Sullivan Mo., having attained the age of 97.

Madeline was born May 17, 1901, in Washington, D.C., to the late Jacob Reuben Kline and Susan Marie Kline (nee Hopkins).

She is survived by: two brothers: Larry Kline and wife. Elizabeth of Sullivan, and John Kline and wife, Debbie of Potosi; two grandsons: Richard Asplin and wife Sue, of Leasburg, and Jim Asplin of Sullivan; two granddaughters; Susie Woods of Sullivan and Rhonda; a sister-in-law; Goldie Kline of Sullivan; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Besides those previously mentioned, Madeline was preceded in death by her late husbands, Issac Asplin and Lee W Bandy; two sons: Marian Asplin and Issac Leo Asplin; and one daughter-in-law, Doris Schmidt.

Visitation for Madeline Lucille K. Bandy was held from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M., Monday, September 7, 1998, at the Hassebroek-Felton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Mo., with a Rebecca service held at 7:00 P.M.

Funeral services for Madeline Lucille K. Bandy were conducted at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 8, 1998, at Hassebroek-Felton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Mo., with Pastor Oliver Mullen officiating. Interment followed at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Sullivan, Mo.

All arrangements were under the care of the Hassebroek-Felton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

 

Opal A. Bandy of Leader, Mn. Passed away Thursday, April 18, 1996 at the age of 68 years.

Mrs. Bandy was born Sept. 22, 1927 at Bourbon, Mo. to John and Mae (Kates) Ratlif.

She was married to Elsa Bandy June 22, 1946. She is survived by her husband Elsa and a daughter Robin Marshal; a brother John E. Ratliff and wife Martha of Pacific, Mo.; two sisters, Nellie Alexander and husband Carl of Sullivan; three grandchildren, Dustin, Dylon, and Kelsey Marshal, several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by one son Roger Dale, her father and mother and brother-in-law Omer Bowen.

Visitation was held Sunday April 21, 1996 with Prayer Service at 7:30 P.M. at Brenny Funeral Home in Staples, Mn. Funeral Service was held Monday April 22, 1996 at Pleasant Hill Community Church, Pequat Lakes, Mn., with Rev. James Knight officiating. Interment was in Popular Cemetery, Leader, Mn.

 

Funeral services for Beulah L. Banta, Postmaster of Berryman, Mo., were held Wednesday, November 11, 1981, at 1 P.M. in the Halbert-Stuart Funeral Chapel, Steelville, Rev. Oliver D. Shoults and Rev. Joel Taylor officiated. Committal prayers and interment were held in the Berryman Cemetery under the direction of the Halbert-Stuart Funeral Home Casket bearers were Charles Hill, Don Monroe, Bill and Luther Bouse, Lee and Tom Hudson.

Beulah L. Banta was born to the union of the late James and Rhoda (Crump) Hudson on May 3, 1911 at Berryman, Mo. Mrs. Banta passed away after a long batter with cancer on November 6, 1981 in the Missouri Baptist Hospital. She was 70 years old.

Mrs. Banta was united in marriage to thee late Glen Banta on February 8, 1942 at Berryman, Mo. and to this union 2 sons were born. Mrs. Banta was a school teacher in the Potosi area and Berryman Community for many years. After the death of her husband she became the postmaster of Berryman and was serving in that position until her passing.

Survivors include her two dear sons, John T. Banta of Glendale, Arizona; a brother and sister-in-law, Rolla and Nola Hudson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Arrangements were by the Halbert-Stuart Funeral Home of Steelville, Missouri.

 

Margaret B. Banta (nee Stifler) of Steelville, Missouri, was born April 29, 1904 in Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late James and Jenny (Gimmel) Stifler. She passed away August 29, 1985 in Phelps County Regional Medical Center at Rolla, Missouri at the age of 81 years and 4 months.

Margaret was united in marriage to Royal W. Banta in Denver, Colorado in 1922. Three children were born to this union.

Mrs. Banta attended the Center Pint Baptist Church of Steelville.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Banta was preceded in death by one brother, Harvey Stifler, and one grandson.

Those who remain to mourn her passing are one daughter, Nadine (Mrs. Merle Durham) os Steelville; two sons, Denis L. Banta of Steelville, and Royal Watts Banta of St. Louis; eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Margaret Banta were conducted at 1 P.M. on Saturday, August 31, 1985 at Britton Chapel, Steelville, with Rev. Delmar Hutson officiating. Committal prayers and interment were in the Berryman Cemetery under the direction of the Britton Bros. Funeral Home of Steelville. Serving as pallbearers were: David Banta, Dale, Keith and Kirby Durham, Harold King, Walter Korte and Rick Martin.

 

Joe Ward Barbre, of Sullivan, Missouri, died July 12, 1999, at the age of 72 years.

Mr. Barbre was born December 11, 1926, at Ben Lomand, Arkansas, to the late John Thomas and Lillie May (Lockeby) Barbre. He was raised in Arkansas a short time and later moved to Southern Missouri to make his home. He honorably served his country with the U.S. Army for 20 years. Joe served post WWII through the early Vietnam era, having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his discharge, he was employed as a street foreman with the city of Manchester, Missouri, and retired in 1984. On July 11, 1964, he was married to Barbara Baker at Los Alamos, Colorado. The past 15 years they have made their home in Sullivan. Joe especially loved to fish, but he also found pleasure in hunting, gardening, tinkering, and whittling.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Sandra Barbre of Springfield, Missouri and Rich and Joy Barbre of Ballwin, Missouri, one sister, Nellie Newkirk of Owensville, Missouri, five grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Mr. Barbre was preceded in death by two brothers, Cletus and Bill Barbre, and by one sister, Shirley Shadden.

Funeral services were conducted 10 A.M., Thursday, July 115, 1999, from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, with the Rev. Bart Hildreth officiating. Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Grace United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.

 

William (Bill) Barbre of Bourbon, passed away Saturday, June 8, 1996. Beloved husband of Evelyn Barbre, dear father of the late Stella Martym dear brother of Joe Barbre, Nellie Newkirk, and the Late Johnny Barbre and Shirley Shadden, dear son-in-law of Genevive Oberbeck, dear uncle, cousin, and friend.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, June 11, 1996 at 1:30 P.M. at Heiligtag Funeral Home in Arnold, Missouri. Visitation was Monday 4-8 P.M. interment was in Shephera Hills Cemetery. Mr. Barbre was a 24 year employee of Anheuser Busch.

 

Oscar W. Barchus of Bourbon, Missouri, passed away Monday, December 7, 1998, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, at the age of 83 years.

Mr. Barchus was born June 18, 1915, at Tiff, Missouri, to the late Oscar and Nellie (Aly) Barchus Sr. In February of 1957, he was married to Helen Dudra Petrungaro in Mississippi, and this past year renewed their vows at Saint Francis Catholic Church in Bourbon. Mr. Barchus was a carpenter in commercial construction with his last employment being with AT&T as a building superintendent. He found enjoyment working with his hands and machinery. Mr. Barchus was baptized at an early age into the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, a stepson, Carmen Petrungaro of Bourbon, one sister, Alma Amelong of St. Louis, one brother, Clifford Barchus of Arnold, Missouri, a stepsister, other relatives and friends.

A daughter, Ann Barchus, and a sister, Lula Ducheck, preceded Mr. Barchus in death.

Funeral services were conducted 10:00 A.M., Thursday, December 10, 1998. from the Eaton Chapel in Bourbon with Rev. Scott Perry officiating. Interment was in Park Lawn Cemetery, Lemay, Missouri.

Funeral Arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Chapel, Bourbon, Missouri.

 

Robert William Barker, formerly from the Bourbon area, the son af Robert Lynn Barker Jr. and Sondra Ernest Barker Ray, was born on December 29, 1959 in East St. Louis, Illinois. He was raised in the Old Ripley area and attended the Greenville Schools. He joined the Army on March 29, 1977 in Chicago and served at Fort Knox and was discharged from Fort Sill on May 23, 1980. He returned to Bond County where he worked as truck driver for Chester Talley in the C.T. Trucking Co., for over 10 years. He has been with McCasland Distribution Incorporated for the past 10 months.

Robert and Joy Rilkenton Crow were united in marriage on May 30, 1992 in Bourbon, Missouri. She survives as do his father Robert Lynn Baker Jr. and his wife Lillian of Steelville, Mo., and mis mother Sondra Ernest Ray and her husband Howard of Sorento, his maternal grandmother Gwen Ernest Gatewood and her husband Robert of Old Ripley, son Brant David Barker at home, daughters Billie Jean Sunshine Cooper of Olney, Misty Dawn Meyers of Ramsey, Ill., teins, Robbie Lea Aye and Bobbie Ann Bea Barker at home, step-daughter Rabecca Lynn Biggins at home, sisters Bonnie Jean Elkins of Livingston, Sandra Kay Stewart of Hillsboro, half-sisters, Tammy Ann Siebur of Sorento, Marla Sue Hair and Joy Lynn Hair of Greenville, Step-brothers Jeff and Brian Gipson of Greenville, Mike Reynolds of Steelville, step-sister Carla Suttles, half-brother Glen Barker, half-sisters Diane Farris, Rhonda HEeter, and Carol Boyer all of Steelville.

Robert is preceded in death by his half-sister Jane Barker on May 12, 1991 and his grandparents.

 

Clarice V. Barnhart, daughter of Joseph Brand Wall was born on November 19, 1924 at Leasburg, Missouri and departed this life on July 24, 1985 at the St. Louis County Hospital in Clayton, Missouri having attained the age of 60 years, 8 months and 5 days. Clarice, was a longtime resident of the Leasburg area before moving to St. Louis twenty years ago.

As a young girl she was baptized and attended church in Leasburg.

She was united in marriage to Louis Barnhart and to this union two daughters were born.

Surviving her are, her daughters, Jan Fielding and husband Daniel of Dongola, Illinois, Brenda Harmon and husband Leroy of Lake Station, Indiana, her mother, Asbrine McClain of St. Louis, Missouri, three sisters, Audenia McFarland of Clayton, Missouri, Geneva Harmon of St. Louis, Missouri, Glenna Ferguson of Granite City, Illinois, 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Joseph.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, July 27, 1985 from Hassebroek’s Bourbon Chapel in Bourbon with Rev. C.F. Pinnell officiating.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Hassebroek’s, Bourbon, Missouri.

 

Minnie Lee Barnhart was born near Bourbon, Mo., November 26, 1883 to the union of John Ratliff and Martha June Ratliff nee Hill and passed away May 30, 1961 at the age of 77 years, 6 months and 4 days.

She was united in marriage to frank L. Barnhart, at bourbon, Mo., and to this union 9 children, 4 boys: Edward, Homer, Elwood and Louis and five girls: Edna, Ethel, Mae, Ella and Helen, were born.

Those who survive to mourn her departure are: 3 daughters: Mrs. Mae Chapman, Mrs Ella Hartung, and Mrs. Helen Pennock; 2 sons Louis and Elwood, 1 brother, Mr. Claude Ratliff, her sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Barnhart’s husband, 2 sons, Edward and Homer and 2 daughters Edna and Ethel preceded her in death. Her life has been one of devotion to her loved ones and of helpfulness to her friends and neighbors. She will be sadly missed not only by her loved ones but by all who knew her.

Mrs. Barnhart was in state in the Shanklin Funeral Home Chapel, Bourbon, Mo. where serviced were held, Thursday, June 1, at 1:30 P.M., with Rev. Fred R Barber officiating. Miss Audrey Ove sang sacred hymns with Mrs. Matred Rickoff serving as her accompanist.

Interment was in Gerth Cemetery.

 

Hazel Mae Barns, daughter of the late Richard M. and Mary A. Witt, was born on October 4, 1921 in Washington County, Missouri and departed this life on November 8, 1975 at Sullivan, Missouri, having attained the age of 54 years, one month and four days.
     Hazel, as she was known to her family and friends was a life long resident of the Sullivan area.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bourbon, Missouri.
     Surviving her are:  her husband, Harry P. Barnes, three daughters, Mrs. Carole Shattuck of Crocker, Missouri, Mrs. Georgia Blum of Bourbon, Missouri and Mrs. Glenda Mueller of Sullivan, Missouri; two sons, Melvin M. Missey of San Diego, California and Austin N. Missey of Chattanooga, Tennessee; seven sisters, Estell Jergens, Edna Hoyle, Margie Payne and Betty Byington, all of Sullivan, Missouri, Nora Bullock of North Hollywood, California, Marion Loverich of Union, Missouri and Genevieve Simmons of Cuba, Missouri; five brothers, James Witt and Charles Witt of Sullivan, Missouri, Lewis Witt of Pacific, Missouri, Wendell Witt of Fenton, Missouri and Kenny Witt of Stanton, Missouri; six grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
     Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, George Missey and one sister, Cecil Campbell.
     A kind and living wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend.  She will be sadly missed by her loved ones and friends.
     Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, 1975 from the First Baptist Church, Bourbon, Missouri with Rev. Robert Eberle officiating.  Interment was in the Hill Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri.
     Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Hassebroek's Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

 

Lee Roy Barnicle, son of the late Samuel Barnicle and Eva Mae Bowers Barnicle, was born May 10, 1909 in Wesco, Missouri and died February 22, 1990 in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 80 years. Mr. Barnicle was a charter member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church that was organized in 1944. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of St. James. He was ordained as a deacon over forty-five years ago. He was a member of the St. James Masonic Lodge #230 AM & FM and a Mason for over fifty years, he was a member of the Harmony Shrine of Rolla. As a self-employed farmer he was a member of the A.S.C. office in Crawford and Phelps County for thirteen years and won three awards for balance farming.

On August 11, 1926 he was married to Pearl Jones who survives at their home in St. James. Other survivors are his son Paul and daughter-in-law Judy of St. James, one brother Jake and sister-in-law Helen of Steelville, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers, Cleo, Vernon and Monroe Barnicle.

Masonic services were held Friday at 7:00 P.M. in the James and Gahr Chapel with funeral services being held Saturday, February 24, 1990 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in St. James with Rev. David Church and Rev. Norman Cartwright officiating. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Connie Rhea with vocal selections by Hal Rhea. Pallbearers were Ellis Copeland, Dwight Edwards, Carl Gravier, Frank Kenyon, Earl Pilger and Jake Moutray. Honorary pallbearers were Herman Schallenburg, Glenn Durnbaugh, Randal Whitaker, Clarence Hart, John Kitchen, Cecil Edgar, Hal Rhea, Bill Miller, Ken Deason, Guy Hutcheson and Everett Smith.

Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Steelville, Mo.

Arrangements were by the James and Gahr Mortuary of St. James, Missouri

 

Weldon H. (Jake) Barnicle was born April 20, 1912, at Wesco, Missouri, a son of the late Samuel and Eva Mae (Bowers) Barnicle and passed away, March 3, 1992, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, Missouri, at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 13 days.

At age five, Jake and his family moved to a farm near Wesco. He attended school there and helped his parents with the farm work. He also helped his grandmother, Martha Ann Bean Bowers, with the work at the Wesco Hotel. In 1940, Jake went to work in St. Louis for Laclede Power and Light Company.

May 22, 1943, Jake and Helen West were married. The ceremony took place at the home of Rev. E. T. King in West Plains, Missouri. One son and one daughter were born to this union. Jake and Helen lived in Wesco and Jake worked as a timber buyer and supervisor for the Egyptian Gaven Tie Company. In his free time, he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and listening to his hunting dogs. He later started his own business, The Barnicle Treatment Plant, treating mining props, railroad ties, lumber, and fence posts. After selling this business in 1972, Jake became a full-time farmer.

Jake served as a Crawford County Director for the Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Committee for seventeen years. He also served as a director for the Steelville Telephone Exchange for over twenty-four years. Jake was a member of the Lebanon Lodge #77, AF & AM, for fifty years.

He will be remembered as a loving father, a good neighbor and true friend. A person who gave of his time and talents to make this community a better place.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Cleo, Lee Roy, Vernon and Monroe Barnicle.

Among those who remained to mourn his passing are his devoted wife, Helen Barnicle of the home; one son, Sam West Barnicle and wife Kathy Ann of Olathe, Kansas; one daughter, Mary Lee and husband Douglas Eris Schroer of Urbana, Illinois; four grandchildren, Travis and Molly Barnicle of Olathe, Kansas; Nathan and Emilia Schroer of Urbana, Illinois; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Pearl (Mrs. Lee Roy) Barnicle of St. James, Missouri, Zelma (Mrs. Vernon) Barnicle of Hayward, California, Faye (Mrs. Monroe) Barnicle of Steelville, Missouri, Hazel and Fred Hoener, Jeanne and William Ohlhausen both of Kansas City, Missouri and Willard West of Steelville, Missouri; nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.

Weldon H. (Jake) Barnicle lay in state after 4 P.M. Friday, March 6. 1992, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri, Funeral services were held 11 A.M. Saturday, March 7, 1992, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Virgil Parker and Rev. Leslie Koerber officiating. Music was provided by Danny Gruver and Iris Moreland. Committal prayers and interment was in Barnicle Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dennis Barnicle, Tom Beesley, Rusty Snodgrass, Bob west, Jim West and Steve West. Honorary pallbearers were John Britton, Cecil Edgar, Fritz Jonas, Jimmie Laney, Maurice Mayberry, Austin Morris and Wilburn Sanders. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

 

Mrs. Opal Mae Barr, 63, passed away Sunday, September 8, 1974, at her home in Carrollton, MO. Mrs. Barr was born May 11, 1911, in Oak Hill, Missouri, the daughter of Logan Terry and Minnie Elizabeth Moss. She was married to Wendell Barr who preceded her in death in 1968.
 
Mrs. Barr attended school in Steelville, MO. and taught school in Crawford County, MO. before she and her husband came to Carrollton in 1965 where they owned and operated the Midwest Auto Store. Mrs. Barr closed out the store about a year ago.
 
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carrollton and Order of the Eastern Star Vesta Chapter, No. 5.
 
Survivors include a brother, Terry Logan Moss, and a sister Mrs. Larry Dawson, both of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and a niece Mrs. Richard Dunlop, also of Council Bluff, Iowa.
 
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 10, 1974, at the Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton, Rev. Archie Warren officiating. Mr. and Mrs. George McMillan and Mrs. Pauline Shelton all of Steelville, and Mrs. Florence Conlin Bare of Cuba were among those who were in attendance at the funeral service.

Susan Evalyn Barr was born October 25, 1892, at Davisville, Missouri. One of ten children born to the union of the late Wilbur Jones Britton and Cora Victoria (Godby) Britton. She passed away November 29, 1989, in the Gibbs Care Center, Steelville, Missouri, at the age of 97 years, 1 month and 4 days.

On February 7, 1915, Susan was united in marriage to Marion Fredrick Barr and to this union two sons and five daughters were born.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Cora Britton; her husband, Marion Fred Barr; her two sons, Glenwood and Clarence “Jack” Barr; a daughter-in-law, Vivan Barr; a son-in-law, Murphey Turnbough; one grandchild, Montee Lee Turnbough and one great-grandson Terry Mercer. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Della Ann Barr and Emma Sellers and seven brothers, James Ephrain, Eddie J., Scott Preston, Raymond V., John Leonard, William Arthur and Roy Estel Britton.

Evie” as she was known to her family and friends was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend. She always took advantage of opportunities to give her testimony and be a Christian witness. She lived most of her life in or near Steelville and for a number of years she owned and managed a used furniture business.

Those who remain to mourn her passing are five daughters, Dorothy and husband Elbert Harp of Cuba, Missouri Hallie Turnbough of Rolla, Missouri, Betty and husband Paul Callahan of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Anna Mae and husband Floyd Hartwick of Washington, Missouri, Peggy Ann and husband Chester Brey of Lawton, Michigan, twenty-seven grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, twenty-four great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Susan Evalyn Barr lay in state after 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 1, 1989 at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 2, 1989 in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Marvin Ivie officiating. Music was provided by Finis Barr, Warren Tiner and Ken Turnbough. Pallbearers were Roger Barr, David Hatcher, William Tiner, Charles and Timothy Turnbough and Danny Wassilak. Committal prayers and interment were in Czar Cemetery, Viburnum, Missouri Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

 

Funeral services for Virginia C. Barrett, daughter of the late ALvie Vaughn, and wife, Johanna Vaughn (nee Crowder), age 68 years, were held Monday, Fenruary 20, 1989 at the New Port Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Barrett died Saturday, February 18, 1989 at St. John’s Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri

Survivors include her husband, Ralph Barrett, one daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and David Brockmann of Washington, Mo., three granddaughters, Elizabeth, Jennifer and Stephanie Brockmann, four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Edith and William Stueve, Adell Wilson and William Stueve, Adell Wilson and Loretta and Jack Sloan, all of St. Louis, Mo. and Vera and Laurice Jones of Union, Mo., three brothers and one sister-in-law, Russell and Leola Vaughn of New Melle, Mo., David Vaughn of Marthasville, Mo., and Richard Vaughn of Puxico, Mo., other relatives and many friends.

Memorials to the New Port Presbyterian Sunday School fund are preferred.

Miller Funeral Home of Washington, Mo. was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

 

Retired Lieutenant Colonel Barry Eudean Kerby of Westlake, Ohio, was born October 7, 1947, at Centerville, Iowa, a son of Hazel Turnbough Kerby Kozlowski and the late Everett Kerby. Barry passed away, March 14, 1995, in the University Hospital of Cleveland, Ohio, at the age of 47 years, 5 months and 7 days.

Barry served in the United States Army for over 24 years. During his duty he received the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was awarded a Bronze Star, three Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Ribbon, tow Overseas service Medals, Armed Forces Reserve Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Gallantry Cross unit Citation with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Civil Action Medal 1st Class, two Overseas Service Bars and (highest peace time ribbon) Legion of Merit Ribbon. Before his retirement he had been appointed Deputy Commander, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Huachuca, Arizona. After his retirement, Barry became a senior project manager for Morrison Knudsen Corporation, where he had been employed for the past four and a half years. His  life exemplified the theme of one of his favorite scripture verses, Deut. 31:6, “Be strong amd of good courage. Do not be afraid of them! For the Lord your God will be with you. He will neither fail you nor forsake you.”

On December 30, 1966, at Newburg, Missouri, Barry was unite din marriage to his high school sweetheart from Newberg, Linda Shelden and to this union three sons were born. He was a member of Mt, Olive Baptist Church, Doolittle, Missouri.

Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife, Linda of the home in Westlake, Ohio: three sons, Barry “B.J.” Kerby jr. and wife Sharon of Spring Lake. N. Carolina; Bryan and Kevin Kerby of West Lake, Ohio; three grandchildren, Christopher, Courtney and Brenna Kerby; his mother, Hazel Kozowski (nee Turnbough) and step-father John Kozlowski of Sullivan; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mike and Frances Shelden of Devil’s Elbow, Missouri; two sisters, Renee and husband Larry Thexton, of Whiteman A.F.B., Missouri, Aleta and husband Bill Harper of South Haven, Mississippi: six brothers, Ernest Kerby and wife Sharon of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Jerel Kerby of Hughes Springs, Texas, Jesse Kerby and wife Evelyn of Smyrna, Tennessee, Vernon Kerby and wife Janet of Memphis, Tennessee. Everett Kerby of Sullivan; and John Kozlowski of Chicago; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dwayne and  Mary Shelden of Fort Scott, Kansas, Ron Shelden of Devil’s Elbow, Judy and John Hollcraft of Nashua, New Hampshire, Bevery Posey of Springfield, Missouri; many nieces, nephews , cousins, other relatives and friends.

Barry Eudean Kerby lay in state 7-9 P.M., Wednesday, March 17, 1995, at the Jenkins Funeral Home, Westlake, Ohio and after 2 P.M. Friday, March 18, 1995, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville. Funeral services were held 1 P.M. Saturday, March 18, 1995, at the New Testament Baptist Church, Sullivan, with Pastor Mike Ward officiating. Musical Selections were provided by Mona Ward, Janet Palmer and Paul Barber. Committal prayers and interment was in Czar Cemetery. Graveside Military Honors were provided by an Honor Guard from Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Pallbearers were Bryan, Jerel, Jesse, Vernon, Everett, Ernest Kerby and John Kozlowski.

Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

 

Rillia Bartel died February 9, 1989, at the Sunset Nursing Home in Union, Missouri at the age of 81 years.

Mrs. Bartel was born July 19, 1907 at Champion City, Missouri, the daughter of the late Henry and Allie Phillips Boettermueller. As an infant she was baptized at the Champion Methodist Church, and later attended the Champion City Public School.

She married Louis Bartel of Champion City on January 22, 1925. The couple made their home in Gerald until failing health forced them to move to Sunset Nursing Home in Union, Mo. in 1982. Me. Bartel preceded his wife in death October 16, 1987. Survivors include one daughter, Maxine Fink and husband, Robert of Union, one son, Virgil, and wife, Dorothy of Gerald, seven grandchildren, Kay Voss of Cuba, Mo., Debbie Collins of Tempe, Arizona, Elaine Scogo of Owensville, Stephen BArtel of Washington, Renee Stumpe of Mexico, Mo., Bill Fink and Mike Fink, both of Union, and Eleven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Services were held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday at Oltmann’s Funeral Home in Gerald, the Rev. Cynthia Mason officiating. Burial was in the Boeuff Presbyterian Cemetery.

 

Rose Amanda Bartel, 97, was born on a farm near Gerald, September 10, 1891, the daughter of Charles Bartel and his wife Ida Dorste Bartel. She died Saturday, February 11, 1989 at the Sullivan Nursing Center at Sullivan, where she had been a resident for several years.

Miss Bartel grew up in the Gerald community and, at an early age, she went to St. Louis to work. About 40 years ago, she returned to the Gerald-Sullivan communities to live. As a young woman, she professed her faith in God and became a life long member of the Boeuff Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by one sister Mary Meyer of Bourbon; one brother William Bartel of Sullivan; two half brothers, Herbert and Wilbert Bartel, both of Union; nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, February 13, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Gerald with interment in the Boeuff Presbyterian Cemetery with Rev. W.E. Norris officiating.

 

Frieda W. Bartels, daughter of the late Herman and Frieda Ricka Kobusch Richter was born on August 14, 1894 in St. Louis, Missouri and departed this life on March 14, 1988 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Missouri having attained the age of 93 years and 7 months.

Frieda, was a longtime resident of the St. Louis area before moving to Bourbon, Missouri in 1970.

She was a faithful and devoted member of the Concordia Lutheran Church of Bourbon, Missouri

On April 28, 1927 she was married to George Fuller who preceded her in death on October 9, 1950. After Mr. Fuller’s death she was united in, marriage to Herman (Pat) Bertels who passed away in November 1965.

Surviving her are, two daughters, LaVerne Gerencser and husband Steve of Bourbon, Missouri, Georgia Scott and husband Kenneth of Melbourne, Florida; two stepsons, Cal Bartels of Granite City, Illinois, Dale Bartels of Jerseyville, Illinois; three grandchildren, Stephen Geremcser Jr. of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Melody Mance of Granite City, Illinois, Kennette Bulva of Troy, Illinois; eight great- grandchildren, Amy, Andy, Tiffany, Scott, Jamie, Ben, Brandy and Amanda.

Besides those previously mentioned, she was preceded in death by, a sister, Anna Schlueter, and five brothers, Henry, William, Oscar, Gus and Ed.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, March 17, 1988 from the Concordia Lutheran Church in Bourbon with Rev. Herman Kotila officiating. Interment was in the Bethlehem Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Hassebroek’s Bourbon Chapel, Bourbon, Missouri.

 

Clara Bartle, of Sullivan, passed away Friday, January 9, 1998 at the age of 84 years.

Clara was born November 13, 1913 in De Camp, Missouri to the late Samuel and Lola (Branson) Hartley. She was raised in the Rolla area and for a time lived in Cuba, Missouri. On November 30, 1930 she was married to C. G. Bartle, known as “Doc”, who preceded her in death in 1972. In 1969 she moved to Sullivan. She was a member of Sullivan Rebekah Lodge #319, the Hospital Auxiliary, and did charity work for Red Cross. She enjoyed playing card games, fishing, swimming, picnicking, and traveling. However, her gratest pleasures came from her family. She worshiped her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She was a person who very much enjoyed life and loved to laugh.

She is survived by one daughter, Sue Miller and husband Roy of Sullivan one sister, Snoma Farley of Rolla, one half-sister, Wilma McCaslin of Mesa, Arizona, one brother-in-law, John Bartle and wife Mickey of Bourbon, two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Bartle of Sullivan and Gladys Williams of Rolla, Two grandchildren, Connie Scott and husband Roger of Sullivan, Rhonda Lee and husband Tim of O’Fallon, Missouri, two great-grandchildren Tyler Scott and Katherine Lee, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Hammie L. Bartle and one sister Alene Williams, four step-brothers, Leroy Floyd, Allen and Marvin Williams, and two step-sisters, Reba George and Mae Fargher.

The family of Mrs. Clara Bartle received friends from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Saturday, January 10, 1998 at the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Private interment was in Kinder Cemetery in Cube, Missouri.

 

Gary W. Stevson Bartz, of St. Louis, passed away Monday, January 24, 1994 at the age of 23 years, 1 month and 10 days. Surviving are his mother, Dorothy Bartz nee Thomas; father, Robert C. Stevson; Stepfather, Thomas Bartz; one brother Mark Stevson, one sister Tracy Bartz; grandparents William and Norma Thomas, Bill and Mackie; uncles Bill, Jim, Steven Thomas, Bill Stevson and Jerry Bartz; one aunt Lancy Lindgren; other relatives and many friends. Gary attended the University of Missouri-Rolla and was a member of the GDI Student Association.

Visitation was at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Saturday, January 29, 1994 after 11 A.M. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 29, 1994 at 2 P.M. with Leroy Goodman officiating. Interment was in the Kinder Cemetery, Cuba. All arrangements were under the direction ot the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba.
