William Robert Achurch
    William Robert Achurch of Steelville, Missouri, was born September 20, 1929 in Steelville, Missouri to Alfred Felix Achurch and Connie Verle (Cole) Achurch and passed away April 14, 2009 at his home at the age of 79 years.
    On
April 10, 1955, he was married to Jane Alice Graham.
    He served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
    He is survived by his wife of
Steelville, Missouri; two sons, Roger Achurch and wife Lavada of Steelville, Missouri and Dale Achurch and wife Mary Lee of Wilmington, California; one daughter, Brenda Kay McDonald of Sullivan, Missouri; two grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
    A private family burial was held at the
Meramac Hills Cemetery in Cuba, Missouri.

Lula Virginia Adair
    Lula Virginia Adair of Cuba, Missouri was born Sunday, July 8, 1928 at Marianna, Arkansas to Charles Mitchell Holt and Nellie Mae (nee Hendrix) Holt and passed away Friday, May 22, 2009 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 14 days.
    Lula was the loving mother of nine children.
    She spent her life taking care of her children and family. In her younger years she worked at the Midway Café were she was the dishwasher and cook. She truly enjoyed cooking and was excellent at it. She always enjoyed listening to gospel music, watching the Andy Griffin Show, growing her tomatoes, but what she enjoyed and loved most was her family and spending time with them.
    Lula was united in marriage on
September 17, 1970 to Wilbert Adair and they have spent the last 39 years enjoying life and being with family.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Nellie Mae Holt; two sons, Billy Ray and Kenneth A. Harrison; one daughter, Margaret Highfill; one sister, Vennie Cooney; three brothers, Clarence, Dickey and Kenneth Holt; two brothers-in-law, Glenn Charles Adair and Russell Bouse; other relatives and friends.
    She is survived by her husband, Wilbert Adair of Cuba, Missouri; six children, John and wife Marsha Harrison of Bourbon, Missouri, Mary Harrison of St. James, Missouri, Jimmy and wife Josie Harrison of Cuba, Missouri, Joe and wife Bobby Harrison of Saginaw, Michigan, Shirley and husband Casper Werdenhausen of Bland, Missouri and William and wife Chiquita Harrison of Rolla, Missouri; 17 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and one great great grandson; one brother, Roger Holt of Marianna, Arkansas; three sisters-in-law, Wilma and husband Fred Bouse, Bert and husband Larry Bouse and Charlotte Bouse, all of Cuba, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was held
Monday, May 25, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. at Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
    Funeral service was at
11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri with Pastor Don Vaughn officiating. Special music for the service will be “Go Rest High on that Mountain,” “Sissy’s Song” and “When He Reached Down His Hand for Me.”
    Interment at the Kinder
Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.

Viola Rosa Agricola
    Viola Rose Agricola of Cuba, Missouri, formerly of Jennings, Missouri was born April 29, 1913 to Frederick and Ida (Schmidt) Cluss in St. Louis, Missouri and   passed away on Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Cuba Manor in Cuba, Missouri at the age of 96 years.
    On
April 28, 1934, Viola and August John Agricola were married in St. Louis, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 15, 1966.
    Viola enjoyed life and loved to garden, sew, cook and dance. She had been an active member of the senior citizen clubs in
St. Louis for many years. Viola was known for her fastidious housekeeping skills and wonderful cooking.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Ida Cluss; husband, August; two brothers, Frederick Cluss and Edwin Cluss; two half-brothers, Charles Pitts and Walter Pitts and one sister, Flora White.
    She is survived by one daughter, Judy Wiget and husband Frank of Steelville, Missouri; one son Richard John Agricola and wife Shirley of Durham, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Agricola and wife Shannon, Kathy Pearson and husband Edward and Frank David Wiget and wife Barbara; three great grandchildren, Edward A. Pearson II, Dorthea Michelle Pearson and Crystal Ann Wiget; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was from
4-8 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2009 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
    Funeral services were held at
10 a.m. on Monday, June 2, 2009 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Special music of “I Am Weak But Thou Art Strong” and “Amazing Grace” was sang and played by Rev. Jerry Beers. A poem was read by great granddaughter, Crystal Wiget.
    Casket bearers were Richard Agricola, Ed Pearson, Edward Pearson II, Frank Wiget, David Wiget and Barbara Wiget.
    Committal prayer and burial were at the Memorial Park Cemetery in
St. Louis, Missouri.

Koradine C. Alexander
    Koradine C. Alexander of Cuba, Missouri was born on July 9, 1915 in Cook Station, Missouri to the union of Edward J. Smith and Maud Etta Musgraves Smith and passed away on Friday, June 5, 2009 at Gibbs Care Center, Steelville, Missouri at the age of 93 years, 10 months, and 27 days.
    Koradine married William Ray Alexander on
May 16, 1935 in Steelville, Missouri and to this union three children were born.
    She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Cuba,
Missouri where she had been active in the Woman’s Missionary Union as president as well as an officer in the Baptist associations in nearby counties. She also was a member of the Extension Club and Carr Friendship Club.
    Koradine served along side her husband Rev. Ray Alexander when he pastored several country churches in the area. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Maud Smith; husband, Ray; infant sister; brother, Orville Kenneth (Loretta) Smith, sisters-in-law, Delma Martin and Dolly (Noel) Alexander; and grandson, Kyle Miller.
    She is survived by her children, Jack (Arlene) Alexander of Cuba,
Missouri, Donna Rae (Keith) Miller of Springfield, Missouri and Deborah Kay (Robert) Templeton of Conover, North Carolina; brother-in-law, Joe (Geraldine) Alexander; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Juanita Anderson
    Juanita Anderson of Cuba, Missouri was born on August 5, 1946 at Doniphan, Missouri to Ed and Dorothy (Deckard) Meadors and passed away Thursday, April 16, 2009 at the age of 62 years.
    She was a devoted Christian who had a beautiful personality and was always giving. She enjoyed cooking and participating in the lives of her family. She could be the life of the party and would see to the needs of those around her.
    She attended the Freedom Mission in
Sullivan, Missouri where her son, Ronnie, is pastor.
    On
June 12, 1981 she was united in marriage to David Anderson at Miami, Oklahoma.
    Juanita is survived by her husband; two sons, Kenneth Evans and wife Connie of Doniphan, Missouri and Pastor Ronnie Evans and wife Daisy of Stanton, Missouri; three stepsons,
David Anderson and wife Carolyn of St. Clair, Missouri, Mark Anderson of St. Clair, Missouri and Adam Anderson of Union, Missouri; one stepdaughter, Bonnie King of Springfield, Missouri; six brothers, Lawrence, Guy and Carel Meadors, all of Doniphan, Missouri, Bill Meadors of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Darrel and Eddie Meadors of Doniphan, Missouri; five sisters, Marie Tucker of Doniphan, Missouri, Ariva Vaughn of Springdale, Arkansas, Mearell Henson of Pueblo, Colorado, Doris Tucker of Staunton, Illinois and Peggy Norton of St. Charles, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
    Funeral services were conducted at
10 a.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2009 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri with Pastors Edward Anglin, Greg Tucker and Ronnie Evans officiating. Interment in the Bourbon Cemetery.

Joseph Elmer Ariola
    Joseph Elmer Ariola of Steelville, Missouri was born Sunday, March 11, 1928 in Paragould, Arkansas to Montezuma Ariola and Georgia Raye Vines Ariola and passed away at his home near Steelville, Missouri Sunday, May 17, 2009 at the age of 81 years, 2 months, and 6 days.
    Joseph served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corp. After being discharged from the service, he was self-employed as a painter and construction worker.
    He married Dorothy “Dottie” Laverne Caldwell on
October 2, 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri and to this union four children were born.
    He and Dottie lived in
St. Louis, Missouri, Phoenix, Arizona, Florida, and California during their married life. They built their home on the property they purchased in 1982 and moved there in 1986. Joseph was a former member of the Davisville American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and loved being with his family and grandchildren. Joseph accepted the Lord years ago and was brought up attending Pentecostal churches. He and Dottie later attended the Huzzah Baptist Church near their home.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Montezuma and Georgia Raye Ariola; daughter, Janet Ariola; brothers, Montezuma, Charlie Gray, Monteray Jr. and wife Evelyn Ariola.
    He is survived by his wife Dottie of the home; his children, Joseph Micheal (Lillian) Ariola of Phoenix, Arizona, Phillip Christopher Ariola of Steelville, Missouri and Paula Thompson of Steelville, Missouri; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Linda and Dennis Perfatter of Moberly, Missouri, Catherine and Doug Sunshine of Festus, Missouri, Dorothy Ariola of Florida and Joan Ariola of Steelville, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
    His wish to be cremated and buried by his parents in the
Richwoods Cemetery, Corning, Arkansas was honored.

Glen Lavern Bays
    Glen Lavern Bays of Viburnum,
Missouri, was born November 22, 1938 at Goodland, Missouri and passed away April 14, 2009 at Festus, Missouri at the age of 70 years.
    On
September 26, 1958 he and Joyce Lawson were united in marriage and to this union two children were born.
    He attended church faithfully as long as his health permitted. He was an avid deer and turkey hunter, fisherman and just enjoyed the outdoors. He loved watching Cardinal baseball games.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Leona (Yount) Bays; one brother, Lovel Bays; one sister, Erma Medley and his parents-in-law, Vernal and Leta Lawson.
    He is survived by his wife, Joyce Bays of Viburnum, Missouri; two children, Dennis Bays, and wife Cheryl of Viburnum, Missouri and Debra Cole and husband
David of Labadie, Missouri; brother, Homer Bays of Viburnum, Missouri; sister, Erna Mae Stulce and husband, Donald of Steelville, Missouri; three grandchildren, Erin Bays Wisdom of Cuba, Missouri, Ryan Cole of Labadie, Missouri and Tyler Bays of Viburnum, Missouri; brothers-in-law, David Lawson and wife Suzanne of Viburnum, Missouri, Jack Lawson of Bonne Terre, Missouri, Donald Lawson and wife Vicki of Salem, Missouri, Ronnie Lawson and wife Chris of Viburnum, Missouri; other relatives and friends.    Visitation was Thursday, April 16, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. in the Wilson Mortuary Chapel, Viburnum, Missouri.

    Music was by Johnny Setzer, Sharon Hedrick and Stanley Chandler.

Dr. Glenn E. Brand
    Dr. Glenn E. Brand was born in
Steelville, Missouri on October 21, 1917 to James H. and Irene O. Brand, and passed away in Lincoln, Nebraska on May 10, 2009.
    He graduated in 1939 from the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering.  After graduation, he was employed by Cerro de Pasco as a mining engineer working in the Peruvian Andes.
    He returned to the
United States at the outbreak of World War II and enlisted in the US Coast Guard. He saw action at the invasions of North Africa, Sicily, and Normandy aboard the attack and transport ship U.S.S. Joseph T. Dickman.
    After the war he married Janet C. Stout, a Navy nurse. Glenn attended graduate school earning his Masters from MSM and a Doctorate in Physical Chemistry from
Washington State University. He returned to Missouri and was an assistant professor of Chemical Engineering and assistant department chair at MSM.
    In 1956 he and his growing family moved to southern
California where he worked for Atomics International, a division of North American Aviation.  He was an engineering group leader and was instrumental in project SNAP, which put the first nuclear reactor in space in the mid 1960’s.
    Glenn retired from North American Rockwell in 1972 and returned to Steelville.  He and Janet built a house and raised Black Angus cattle for the next 25 years.  He was Crawford County President of the Missouri Farm Bureau and a board member of the Steelville Telephone Exchange.  One of his proudest accomplishments was teaching high school physics for a year at
Cuba High School.  He was honored with one silver dollar mounted on a plaque for his service to the community.
    He was a member of the American Nuclear Society, the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical & Petroleum Engineers, and the Scientific Research Society of America. In 1998 he was inducted into the
Academy of Chemical Engineers at Missouri S&T, formerly the University of Missouri Rolla. The Glenn and Janet Brand Endowment Fund has been established to support the Department of Chemical Engineering at Missouri S&T.
    He was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Cardwell; daughter-in-law, Karen Brand (John); and his parents.
    Surviving are his wife, Janet Brand of Steelville, Missouri; one daughter, Jennifer Brand (Nick Webb) of Lincoln, Nebraska; six sons; John Brand of Minneapolis, Minnesota, James Brand (Marie) of Omaha, Nebraska, Jack Brand (Joni) of Woodinville, Washington, Glenn Brand (Mindy) of Watauga, Texas, Jeff Brand of Steelville, Missouri and Joel Brand (Ann) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 12 grandchildren and one great grandson.
    A memorial service will be held later this summer in
Missouri.  Condolences can be sent to Aspen Mortuary in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Margaret F. Broshous
    Margaret F. Broshous of Sullivan, Missouri formerly of Cuba, Missouri was born Sunday, July 2, 1922 at St. Louis, Missouri to the union of John and Catherine (nee Haase) McQuaide and passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 86 years, 10 months and one day.
    Margaret was a clerk for Cuba Manufacturing Company before going to work for Great Plains Gas Company of
Cuba, Missouri. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. After retiring she enjoyed watching QVC, Home Shopping Network and the SCI-FI channels along with Judge Judy. In her spare time she enjoyed a box of Russell Stover, knitting, reading, eating out at the Du Kum Inn with her family and spending time with her four friends from Sullivan, Missouri.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; other relatives and friends.
    She is survived by her daughter, Karlene and husband Rick Becklenberg of Belle, Missouri; son, Kevin Broshous of Sullivan, Missouri; one grandson, Steve and wife Missy Lanham; three great grandchildren, B.J., Carrick and Keegan; three brothers, John and wife Ruth McQuaide of Chesterfield, Missouri, James and wife Marge McQuaide of O’Fallon, Missouri and Jerry and wife Betty McQuaide of Mountain Home, Arkansas; other relatives and friends.

Opal C. Burnett
    Opal C. Burnett of Bourbon,
Missouri was born at Bourbon, Missouri on March 25, 1906 to Jacob and Madge (Davidson) Erni and passed away Thursday, April 16, 2009 at the age of 103 and 21 days.
    She was a life-long resident of Bourbon and in 1927 was married to Orville L. Burnett.
    She was a dedicated homemaker and helped Orville on the family farm milking cows and raising chickens. She was a charter member of the Bourbon Garden Club and won many ribbons and awards for the numerous beautiful floral arrangements she created, using her flowers in her garden. She was also a member of the Order of the Easter Star Chapter 105 of Sullivan. She enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle as well as crocheting and knitting.
    She was preceded in death by her husband; son-in-law, Gary Cunningham and two brothers, Lute and Odes Erni.
    She is survived by a son, Melvin Burnett and wife Edith of Bourbon,
Missouri; four grandchildren, Gay Cunningham, Deborah Sampson and husband Dennis, Tom Burnett and wife Jenit, Richard Burnett and wife Dana; great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was from
5-8 p.m. at the Southside Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri, with the Order of the Eastern Star memorial services conducted at 7 p.m. under the auspices of Sullivan Chapter 105.

2 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2009 from the Southside Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home with Rev. Leo Shumaker.

    H. Uldene Cassidy of
Steelville, Missouri was born in Bonne Terre, Missouri to Calvin and Phena Elizabeth (Davis) Skaggs and passed away Monday, April 27, 2009 at the Gibbs Care Center in Steelville, Missouri.
    She was married to Leslie Bradley Trask and two children were born. She later married Glen Charles Cassidy who preceded her in death.
    Uldene attended high school at
Dillard, Missouri and later went to Cosmetology School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After being a hair stylist for several years, she went to work for Pepsi Cola and later retired from there.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glen Cassidy; one son, Leslie Dale Trask; two brothers, James Harold Skaggs and Ezra Everett Skaggs; one sister, Maxine and husband Woodrow Cassidy and brother-in-law James Mazzier.
    She is survived by her son, Richard “Rick” Trask and wife Marsha of Cupertino, California, one sister, Leoda Mazzier of
Creve Coeur, Missouri; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren; other friends and relatives.

5-8 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.

Harold Lee Claas
    Harold Lee Claas of Gerald, Missouri was born in Leslie, Missouri on April 21, 1932, the son of Carl and Freda (Shaw) Claas and passed away Friday, April 3, 2009 at his residence at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 13 days.
    On
June 24, 1956 at St. Paul’s Church in Gerald, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Ruth Tegeler.
    He was a member of
Champion City Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #624 in Owensville, Missouri and Ill-Mo Tractor Engine Club. Before his retirement he was a machinist for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft.
    He was preceded in death by his father.
    He is survived by his wife; mother; son, Jimmy Claas and wife Tracie of Bland, Missouri; brothers, Charles Claas and wife Fern of Beaufort, Missouri and Jerry Claas and Jan of Gerald, Missouri; sister, Betty McGowan and husband Richard of Bourbon, Missouri.

Opal M. Comfort
    Opal M. Comfort, of St. Peters, Missouri, resident of O’Fallon, Missouri, born in Steelville, Missouri to Philip M. and Millie Adams and passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009, at the age of 82 years.
    Opal was a member of the Dardenne Presbyterian Church, the St. Charles Presbyterian Church, and the Cuba Presbyterian Church.  As a church member, she was involved with Children’s Choir, teaching Sunday School, active with Prayer Network, and Presbyterian Women’s Circle.
    In earlier years, she was very involved with the Crawford County Extension Services in
Cuba, Missouri.  She was a talented seamstress.  She was also a Leader of Lone Star 4-H Club in Crawford County, teaching cooking and sewing.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis L. Comfort; siblings, Neola McKay, Henry Adams and Neleta Maloney.
    She is survived by her children, Linda (Ray) Kendrick, Shirley Comfort, Gale (Ralph) Teasley and Kim (Keith) Busche; grandchildren, Marilee Teasley, Chris Teasley and James Kendrick; great grandchild, Corey Teasley; siblings, Pauline Adams, Betty Ferrell, Ava Lee Comfort, Anna Marie (Robert) Horn, George (
Sharon) Adams and Dorothy Weber; other relatives and friends.

Charles Eugene “Gene” Crider
     Charles Eugene “Gene” Crider of St. James, Missouri was born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 10, 1932 and passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009 in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 77 years.
    Gene proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was an antique car buff, and he owned a 1965 Chevrolet removing and cutting parts. He took a tailgate off a Chevrolet pickup and welded it into the car leaving the words Chevlet.  He took it to many car shows always winning a first place ribbon for the most unique car there.
    He was baptized in 1979 at the
First Bible Church in Lemay, Missouri. He loved sports, his family and the business that he built. He was the owner of Crider Welding, after spending many years as a union a welder at Progressive Fabrication in St. Louis, Missouri, Gene moved to St. James, Missouri and started his own welding company.
    He is survived by his wife, Stelma Crider of the home; step children, Sharon Coleman of St. Louis, Missouri, Carol Watkins and husband Kirk of St. Louis, Missouri, William Coleman Jr. of Jefferson City, Missouri; brothers, Sam Mayberry and wife Wanda of Sullivan, Missouri, Stanley Mayberry of St. James, Missouri; sisters, Velma Mehlville of St. James, Missouri, Martha Barrett of St. James, Missouri; three step grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Wanda L. Davis
    Wanda L. Davis of St. James, Missouri was born May 18, 1926, at High Gate, Missouri to Edward Allen and Gertie E. (Swaw) Birdsong and passed away June 5, 2009 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 83 years and 18 days.
    On
May 23, 1942, at Vienna, Missouri, Wanda Davis was united in marriage to John Alfred “Tinker” Davis. He passed away December 13, 1984.
    Wanda and her husband, “Tinker”, were life long residents of the High Gate Community. She attended the
High Gate Baptist Church where she played the piano for 70 years. She was a loving person who always had a friendly smile and a kind word wherever you met her. She worked for 20 years at the Grocery Store in St. James, Missouri.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Gertie Birdsong; husband, John Davis and brother, Conrad Birdsong.
    She is survived by one son, Don Davis and his wife Bonnie; two daughters, Jo Ann Pointer and husband Junior and Judy Boggs and friend Dave Gabel, all of St. James, Missouri; five grandchildren, Tammi Meese of Nixa, Missouri, Jeff Davis of Washington, D.C., Brian Davis of Rolla, Missouri, Darin Boggs of St. James, Missouri and Lori Burks of Columbia, Missouri; nine great grandchildren, Jamie Meese, Sherry Meese, Kelsey Davis, Alison Davis, Macey Davis, Michael Harrah, Dawson Boggs, Hunter Burks and Hayden Burks.

Sunday, June 7, 2009 from 4-8 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.
    Funeral services were conducted at
11 a.m. Monday June 8, 2009, at the High Gate Baptist Church with Boyd Gray officiating.
    Music was provided by Harold Rowden and family. Hymns, “When We All Get to Heaven”, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Far Side Banks of Jorden” were sung.
    Pallbearers were Quentin Satterfield, Aaron Satterfield, Jeff Davis, Brian Davis, Darin Boggs and Rick Meese.
    Burial was in the family plot at the
High Gate Baptist Church Cemetery.

Kenneth Allen Dietemann
    Kenneth Allen Dietemann of
Steelville, Missouri was born November 7, 1950 in St. Louis, Missouri to Wilmer Dietemann and Margaret Marie Romonoff Dietemann Roy. He passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the age of 58 years.
    Kenneth married his lifelong friend Cheryl on
October 13, 1989 in St. Louis, Missouri. They later divorced but remained close friends and companions.
    He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. He worked as a machinist for several years in
Owensville, Missouri before becoming disabled. He was a member of the Cuba, Missouri V.F.W. and a former member of the Vietnam V.E.T.S. Motorcycle Club of St. Genevieve, Missouri. He loved the outdoors, riding his Harley trike, camping and playing in the river. He liked staying home to avoid crowds and hanging with his best friend Cheryl.
    He is survived by his brother, Philip Dietemann of Collinsville, Illinois; niece, Ramona Marie Schnieder and husband Dan of Florissant, Missouri; nephews, Robert Philip Dietemann of Crestwood, Missouri, Nathan Kenneth Dietemann, and Ryan Miller, all of St. Louis, Missouri; great nephews, Ian, Bret and Kaleb Dietemann, and Peyton Schnieder.
    His wishes to be cremated were honored.

     Bryan William Doney, of Sullivan, Missouri, was born March 24, 1955 in Wakefield, Michigan to Robert W. and Donna Faye (nee Haskins) Doney and passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009 at the age of 54 years.
    
Bryan loved the river and water skiing. He was a “big hearted” man who would give his last dollar to someone if he knew they needed it. He was fond of pets, especially his dog, Gracie.

Clyde R. Farmer
    Clyde R. “Duck” Farmer of Bourbon, Missouri, born to William and Grace Farmer on March 7, 1931 in Hurryville, Missouri and passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at the age of 78 years.
    A graduate of Flat River High and a member of the “49-ers” Duck excelled at basketball.
    He joined the service in 1948 with his friend Casey Hovis. Stationed in
Fort Bliss, Texas, his career as the Poet Lauriat of the Farmer Family began with the writing of “Desert Soldiers.”
    As a member of the reserves he was called back into active duty and sent almost immediately to
Korea. Blown from a cliff by friendly fire, Duck was captured by the Red Army. After spending 27 months in the desperate and hopeless conditions of a communist prisoner of war camp, he was released when a treaty was signed.    
    Duck returned to
Flat River and a received a well-deserved hero’s welcome. A parade was given in his honor and September 19, 1953 was declared “Duck Farmer Day.”
    He married his high school sweetheart Myrtle “Tiny” McGeorge on
September 20, 1953 and to this union seven children were born.
    He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Debra Louise Farmer and Nancy Elaine Dougherty.
    He is survived by his wife of the family home; four daughters, Vickie Marie Bates and husband
David of Rolla, Missouri, Anna Ruth Biggins and husband Mike of Sullivan, Missouri, Myra Kay Ruff of Greenforest, Arkansas and Sarah Farmer of Bourbon, Missouri; one son, Clyde “Magoo” Farmer, Jr., and wife Peggy of Bourbon, Missouri; two brothers, Melvin R. Farmer of Desloge, Missouri and Randell M. Farmer and wife Shermadene of DeSoto, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
    A memorial service was held
Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 3 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon, Missouri.

Earl Charles Gossett of St. James, Missouri was born on December 16, 1922 to Charles F. and Sophia (Ludwig) Gossett in Detroit, Michigan and passed away on Friday, May 1, 2009, at the Gibbs Care Center in Steelville, Missouri at the age of 86 years, 4 months, and 15 days of age.
    He was united in marriage to May Brown Lang on
July 8, 1944 in Dearborn, Michigan.
    
Earl served in the US Army in WWII for three years. He was employed by Sinclair Oil (now BP) for 35 years as a chemical engineer. He had a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University (Phi Beta Kappa) and M.B.A. from University of Chicago. He did community service for South Holland Village Board for 12 years, South Holland Little League Coach for 13 years and Lions International for over 40 years. He was an Elder of Presbyterian Church, member of American Legion, ARCO-Illiana Retiree Club as treasurer for 15 years and Square Dance member in South Holland, Illinois.
    He was preceded in death by his parents.
    He is survived by his wife; one son, Charles W. Gossett of San Dimas, California; two daughters, Patricia E. Voss and husband Curt D. of St. James, Missouri and Barbara J. Gossett of Glen Ridge, New Jersey; three grandchildren, Melanie Earney and husband Eric; Eric Voss and wife June and Bryan Reynolds; two great grandchildren, Hailey Earney and Cammie Earney; one sister, Betty Joelson of Metamora, Michigan; other relatives and friends.
    Burial was in the
Abraham Lincoln Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.

    Effie “Midge” Myrtle Frost Grimm was born
July 2, 1907, in Bland, Missouri to Edward and Ida Jane (Brewer) Reynolds and passed away May 27, 2009 in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 101.
    She lived her life as a Christian and was a member of Ridgeview Christian Church.  She was also a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW.
    She owned and ran two grocery stores, a bakery, several rental houses, a horse/chicken farm, and a cab company, she also once worked as a dispatcher for the Rolla Police Department.
    She was also a talented painter and once held a show of her paintings at the Rolla Public Library.
    She was preceded in death by her husbands, Earl Winder, Archie Frost, and Lloyd Grimm; daughter, Betty J. (Frost) Good; sons, Hugh E. Winder and Earl C. Winder; and her parents.
    She is survived by her son, “Jack” Archie Patrick Frost and wife Linda of
Rolla, Missouri; 23 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was held on
Saturday, May 30, 2009 from 9-11 a.m.
    Services were held at
11 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla, Missouri with Rev. Gary Bartle and Rev. Danny Kemp officiating.

    Joseph W. Grotha was born on
December 16, 1920 in St. James, Missouri to William Thomas and Clara C. (Sanders) Grotha. He passed away at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in St. James, Missouri on Sunday, April 5, 2009 at the age of 88 years, 3 months, and 20 days.
    Joseph was a carpenter and a farmer.  He served in the US Army in WW II acquiring the rank of Sergeant.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lawrence Grotha; one sister, Marcella Marie Grotha (Sister Seraphine a School Sister of Notre Dame).
    He is survived by one sister, Lillian Audry of

Lucille Adams Guiney
    Lucille nee Adams Guiney was born in the Forest Hill area of Bourbon to Frank and Laura Knight Adams on September 19, 1907 and passed away on May 12, 2009 at the age of 101 years.
    She attended the
Forest Hill School, built on land donated by her grandfather, Abraham.
    As a young woman she moved to
St. Louis. Her life in St. Louis was full with an active social life and employment as a nanny for the Lambert family and as a restaurant hostess, but with sorrow as well as she cared for her sister, Hazel, until her death from ALS.
    In her late forties she met and married Hughie Guiney, a Navy veteran and plumber for the railroad. Lucille became an active volunteer at the veteran’s hospital during this time, reading to blind soldiers. After Hughie’s retirement they spent most of their time at the farm, where she was active with the
Crawford County historical society, the garden club and as a hospital volunteer.
    The beautiful garden flowers of the farm, some of which had been planted by her grandmother, and the birds and other wildlife of the forest brought her the most joy in her later years. She was a great reader and writer, leaving a large collection of the poems she has written over the years.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Hughie; nieces, Lois Seacat and Sue Ehrsam; other relatives and friends.
    She is survived by her great nieces and nephews, Cathy Hotz and Alan of Bourbon, Missouri, Laura Hunter and Richard of Rolla, Missouri, Dr. Margery Ross and Danny of New Jersey, Jeff Ehrsam and Kim, Steve, and Chris Ehrsam of San Diego, California; great great nieces and nephews, Michael Hunter and Sheila of Atlanta, Georgia, Alison Hunter of Benicia, California, Albert and Joe Hotz of Bourbon, Missouri, Ben and Max Ross of New Jersey and Summer, Meagan, Cole and Dylan Ehrsam of San Diego, California; great great great niece, Miriam Hunter of Atlanta, Georgia; step children, John Guiney and Ann and Suzanne Clear of New Mexico.

    Teresa Lynn Happle was born on May 13, 1957 to Lloyd and Louise (Bailey) Terry in Fort Ord, California and passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at her home in rural St. James, Missouriat the age of 51 years, 11 months and 9 days of age.
    She was united in marriage to Eric Happle on
September 10, 1983 in St. James, Missouri.
    She loved spending time with her grandkids, enjoyed the outside doing gardening, loved to cook, collect Coca Cola cans and Hershey’s cans, talking to people and just enjoying life.
    She was preceded in death by her mother, Louise (Bailey) Terry and first husband Randy Klossner who passed away on
November 25, 1981.
    She is survived by her husband, Eric Happle of St. James, Missouri; one son, Devin Klossner of Chamois, Missouri; one daughter, Casey Hoevel and husband Mitchell of Rolla, Missouri; father, Lloyd Terry of Vienna, Missouri; six brothers, Bill Cook and Donnie Cook of Cuba, Missouri; Gary Cook of Salem, Missouri; Mitch Terry of Vienna, Missouri; Mike and Lanny Terry of Rolla, Missouri; two sisters, Marilyn Boyce of Branson, Missouri and Mary Snethren of West Plains, Missouri; three grandchildren, Jamie and Jake Hoevel of Rolla, Missouri and Blayden Klossner of Licking, Missouri; other family and friends.

    Irene Ryan Harris, nee Isgriggs, of Steelville, Missouri was born on Thursday, March 19, 1936 in Scotia, Missouri to Clarence Isgriggs and Mary Edith Adams Isgriggs. She passed away on
Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Cuba Manor at the age of 73 years and 9 days.
    Irene married Joel Harrison Ryan on
June 30, 1952 in Little Rock, Arkansas and to this union four children were born.
    She worked several years at Brown Shoe Co. in
Steelville, Missouri. She recently accepted the Lord as her personal Savior. She loved her family and especially her grandchildren. Her hobbies were gardening and raising her cats.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles, Henry and Clarence Isgriggs and infant brother, Leroy; sister, Leona Isgriggs; great grandson, Lane Shackelford; and brother-in-law, Forest Nagle.

    Ethel Hicks of Cedar Hill, Missouri, formerly of
St. James, Missouri, was born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 22, 1920, to Alfred and Effie Polson and passed away Friday, May 1, 2009, after a long illness.
    She was united in marriage to Emory L. Hicks and to this union three children were born.
    Ethel was employed by Rawlings Sporting Goods retiring after 27 years of service. After her husband passed away she moved to
Cedar Hill, Missouri to be close to her children and grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
    She is survived by her children, Emory Lee and wife Inge, of Festus, Missouri, Effie Stankey and husband Bob, of Sullivan, Missouri and Alfred Lee and wife Judy, of Hillsboro, Missouri; seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
    A visitation was held Sunday, May 3, from
5-8 p.m.

2 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2009 in the St. James Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary with Pastor Stephen Brubaker officiating.

Daniel R. “Butch” Holman
    Daniel R. “Butch” Holman was born in
St. James, Missouri on May 19, 1938 to Dan and Lucille (Hughes) Holman and passed away May 18, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in St. James, Missouri at the age of 70 years.
    Butch proudly served his country in the United State Air Force during the Korean War.
    He was united in marriage to Reba Bennett on
August 4, 1962, and to this union two children were born.
    Butch worked for many years as a sewing machine mechanic for the Lee Company in
Richland, Missouri. He was an active member of the St. James VFW Post #5608; he enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, a game of pool and barbecuing. At the age of 62, Butch earned his Culinary Arts degree.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Dan Holman.
    He is survived by his mother, Lucille Holman, of St. James, Missouri; daughters, Angel Davis and husband Doug, of St. James, Missouri, Caroline Stevenson and husband Geoff, of Doolittle, Missouri; Michael Casarotto, of Lebanon, Missouri; best friend and companion of 30 years Jeannie Casarotto of the home; grandchildren, Abbey, Daniel, and Zachery Davis, Alexis and Christopher Stevenson, and Dante Casarotto.

    Frank served his country in the United States Army for 20 years, retiring
February 1, 1963.
    He was united in marriage to Catherine Bonham in
Waco, Texas on January 3, 1943 and to this union five children were born.
    Frank was a member of the First Baptist Church of St. James and a member of the VFW Post #7755. He operated a service station for many years after his retirement from the Army. He enjoyed fishing, cars and spending time with his family.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Maude House; daughters, Martha Claus and Cathy Wallace.
    He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Catherine House of St. James, Missouri; children, Eddie House and wife Lois of St. James, Missouri, Jean Auxier and husband Sam of Rolla, Missouri, Jimmy House of St. James, Missouri; brother, Charles House and wife Alice of Steelville, Missouri; sister, Nora Fluent and husband Alan of Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Thomas T. Houseman
    Thomas T. Houseman of Bourbon, Missouri was born at Cuba, Missouri on September 15, 1941 to Dewey and Christina (Heseman) Houseman and passed away Monday, March 30, 2009 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 67 years.
    He was a life-long resident of the Bourbon and Sullivan areas and was a long time employee of Boeing Aircraft Manufacturing in
St. Louis, Missouri having retired from there just two years ago.
    He always led life by example and was a man of character. He could be counted on. He devoted his life to his children and family. There would be countless days in the backyard playing sports with his children and he was a die-hard baseball fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, fond of nature and the outdoors. He loved to listen to crickets and tree frogs and enjoying the world.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lloyd and James Houseman and sister, Lucille Garrett.
    He is survived by four children, Catherine Faraoni and husband William of Lewisville, Texas, Vernon Peters and wife Aubrey of Bourbon, Missouri, Thomas L. Houseman of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Rachelle Peters of Deepwater, Missouri; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
    Funeral services were conducted at
11 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2009 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri with interment in the New Salem Cemetery, rural Owensville, Missouri.

    She always had a big smile and laugh that refused to allow anyone around her to be in a bad mood. She had a heart of gold and would do anything in her power to help someone in need. She enjoyed her coffee and soap operas.
    She was preceded in death by her father.
    She is survived by four children, Marion Jarvis and wife Natalie of Sullivan, Missouri, Nathan Jarvis and wife Phillina of Ft. Bliss, Texas, Kenneth Jarvis of Rolla, Missouri and Shondra Courtouise and husband Clayton of Sullivan, Missouri; her mother, Roberta L. Padgett; brothers, Robert Morris Padgett and wife Pam of Alton, Illinois and Matt Padgett of Cuba, Missouri; sisters, Sherri Patton and husband Landon of Winfield, Missouri, Julie Rubash and husband Mike and Marsha Padget and husband Mike, all of California; grandchildren, Justyce, Dakota, Nathan Jr., Montana, Alexa, James and Chleo; other relatives and friends.

    Leo A. Kell of
Cuba, Missouri was born on Monday, February 23, 1925 in Montauk, Missouri to Luman Kell and Doshia Bailie Kell. He passed away at Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, Missouri on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the age of 84 years, 2 months, and 23 days.
    Leo served his country honorably in the United States Navy during WWII. He married Rayjeanna Coon Ricotta on
December 10, 1983 in St. John’s Missouri.
    He worked for and later owned White National Tuckpointing Co. in
St. Louis, Missouri for 58 years where he was a member of the Brick Layers Union local #1. He loved to travel in his RV, which included some winters, drove a car hauler, owned and built stock cars. They retired to the country because Leo considered himself a country boy. He raised horses, worked in his yard, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Luman and Doshia Kell; infant son, Leonard Wayne Kell; two brothers, Leroy (Judy) Kell and Leonard (Darlene) Kell; two sisters, Wilma and Willa Kell; grandchild, Lisa Morgan and great grandson, Anthony Thompson.
    He is survived by his wife, Rayjeanna of the home; children, Dorothy (Raymond) York of Licking, Missouri and Hellen Morgan of Lowell, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Janet (Paul) Sagez of Garland, Utah; seven step children, Cindy (Mark) Klein of Barnhart, Missouri, Alan Ricotta of Hillsboro, Missouri, Barbara Ricotta and Maria Ricotta, all of Cuba, Missouri, John Ricotta of Dittmer, Missouri, Vincent Ricotta of Rolla, Missouri and Gina Ricotta of High Ridge, Missouri; five grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; 15 step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren;

    Konita was united in marriage to Edward A. Lang on
June 2, 1940 at Ralls County, Missouri. They were happily married for 63 years.
    She was a fourth grade school teacher at
Ritenour School District, St. Louis County for 32 years before she retired in 1977. She was a member of the Christian Church of Cuba and the Easter Star Cuba Chapter 398.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenneth O’Keefe Lennox; sister, Emma Lou Pridgeon; one nephew, Larry Lennox; other relatives and friends.
    She is survived by her six nieces and nephews; great nieces; great nephews; other relatives and friends.

Friday, May 8, 2009 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.

Earl was a member at First Baptist Church, Salem, Missouri. He was Mayor of Salem, Missouri for several years. He was a painting contractor in St. Louis, Missouri from 1960 to 1973. He and his wife Geraldine moved to St. James, Missouri in 1973 where they operated their farm.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Burel and Bernard Lough; three sisters, Gladys Lough, Jessie Fleenor and Jewell McClure Margason.
    He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Geraldine (Davis) Lough of St. James, Missouri; one son, Rodney Lough and wife Donna of St. James, Missouri; one daughter, Dr. Melinda Rush and husband, Phillip, of Madison, Mississippi; grandchildren, Andrew Lough and wife Dr. Katie Lough of Rolla, Missouri, Daniel Lough of Kansas City, Missouri, Robert N. Billie Jean Lynn
    Billie Jean Lynn of Sullivan, Missouri, formerly of Cuba, Missouri, was born Friday, May 29, 1931 at Tuckerman, Arkansas to Luther and Jewell (nee McClain) Simpson and passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009 at St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 27 days.
    Billie worked as a waitress for many years. She had been a “Witness” of the Kingdom Hall in
St. Louis, Missouri and then Sullivan, Missouri for over 43 years.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Rebecca Dorris; other relatives and friends.
    She is survived by her son, Rick and wife Lora Lynn of
Leasburg, Missouri; daughter, Judy Baumhoff of St. Louis, Missouri; two sisters, Martha Narrens of Des Moines, Iowa and Dee Roberts of Sarasota, Florida; one granddaughter, Darlene Bach; three great grandchildren, Nicole, Cameron and Carley; other relatives and friends.

      James Wesley Manues Jr. of Bland,
Missouri was born August 14, 1971 to James Manues Sr. and Mary Rhodes Manues and passed away June 3, 2009 at the age of 37 years.
    He worked at Pioneer Truss in
Owensville, Missouri.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, James Sr. and Mary Manues.
    He is survived by three sons, Shane and
Tyler Manues of Owensville, Missouri and James Manues III of Michigan and two sisters, Juanita and Denise.
    Funeral service was
Sunday, June 7, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Gottenstroeter Funeral Home, Owensville, Missouri.
    Burial in the Owensville,
City Cemetery, Owensville, Missouri.

Alice E. Morgan
    Alice E. Morgan nee McCoy of Steelville, Missouri was born on Monday, November 12, 1917 to Baylis McCoy and Lucille Jo Martin McCoy. She passed away on
Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Osage Beach Health Care at the age of 91 years, 5 months, and 23 days.
    
Alice married Bruce Morgan on December 13, 1968 in Salem, Missouri. She accepted the Lord many years ago and was a member of the Steelville Presbyterian Church. Alice worked a number of years at the shoe factory in Cuba, Missouri and last at the Western Auto Store in Steelville, Missouri. She used to love to ride horses in parades and horse shows, having won several trophies and ribbons. She later enjoyed quilting, going to the family farm, visiting with friends and family. She was also a St. Louis Cardinal fan and always watched or listened to the games.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bruce; son, Robert “Bobby Lee” Stough; sisters, Alta May Redmon, Alma Arnold; brothers, Frank McCoy, and Oscar Furman McCoy; brothers-in-law, Sonny Redmon, Richard Arnold and Carl Gibson; sister-in-law Esther McCoy; and stepfather Van Albert Hall.
    She was survived by her sister, Allene McCoy Gibson of St. Charles, Missouri; grandson, Jesse Stough of Missouri; two great granddaughters, LaDawna McLeod and Jessica Stricklan, both of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri; two nieces, Diane Bumba of St. Charles, Missouri and Jo Ann Bryant of Wright City, Missouri; four great great grandsons; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was Saturday,
May 9, 2009 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at noon Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Delmar B. Hutson officiating.
    Burial was in the Schwieder Cemetery Steelville,
Missouri.

Doris May Morton
     Doris May Morton of Villa Ridge, Missouri was born February 14, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri to Arthur and Della, nee Green, Hewkin and passed away Monday, May 4, 2009 in Creve Coeur, Missouri at the age of 72 years.
    She graduated from
Cherryville High School in Cherryville, Missouri and later attended East Central College in Union, Missouri.
    On
October 29, 1955 she married James W. Morton in St. Louis, Missouri. They made their home in Villa Ridge, Missouri since 1971.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James and one brother, Clinton Hewkin.
    She is survived by one son, Michael Morton and wife Michelle of Wildwood, Missouri; four daughters, Debra Cottner of Michigan, Pamela Arnold and husband Richard of Wildwood, Missouri, Phyllis Morton of Union, Missouri and Lori Morton of Villa Ridge, Missouri; one brother,
David Hewkin and wife Ruth of Davisville, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Ruby Hewkin of Cherryville, Missouri; nine grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
    Funeral service was held
Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Oltmann Funeral Home in Washington, Missouri with Rev. Phillip Hudson and Rev. Wesley Rider officiating.

    Marie Elizabeth Moutray nee Miller of Steelville, Missouri was born on Sunday, January 24, 1909 in Steelville, Misouri to Ivy Burton Miller and Lulu Hines Miller and passed away at Gibbs Care Center, Steelville, Missouri on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the age of 100 years, 3 months, and 26 days.
    Marie married Edwin Moutray on
August 24, 1928 in Steelville, Missouri and to this union two children were born.
    Marie was a believer and a member of the
Fairview Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning, and cooking.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivy Burton and Lulu Miller; husband, Edwin; son Ralph (June) Moutray; great grandson, Brad Lokken; brother, Paul (Ann) Miller; sisters, Ada (Claude) McKinney, Mabel (Lloyd) Cannon, Irene (George) O’Neal; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim Trimble, Delbert Moutray, Lytle (Doris) Moutray, Ross (Matred) Moutray, Minnie (Ben) Mallow, Clyde (Jess) Woods, and Mary (Claude) Doss.
    She is survived by her daughter, Mary Gipson and husband Fred of LaFeria, Texas; sister, Fern Trimble of Collinsville, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Gladys Moutray of Steelville, Missouri; four grandchildren, Debbie (Bill) Nelson of S. Beloit, Illinois, Gordon (Gilda) Moutray of the country of Kuwait, Kay (Mike) Bava of Odessa, Texas and Dale Moutray of Howe, Texas; nine great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
