Louis “Bud” O’Leary
    Louis “Bud” O’Leary of
Cuba, Missouri was born on Thursday, March 11, 1926 in Pine Lawn, Missouri to Jack W. O’Leary and Mae Frances Rogers O’Leary. He passed away at Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, Missouri on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the age of 83 years, 1 month, and 21 days.
    Bud served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corp during WWII. He married Mary Margaret McClarnon on
November 26, 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri and to this union five children were born.
    Bud worked and retired from AT&T as a PBX installer. He attended Amazing Grace Church in
Cuba, Missouri and was a member of the Lions Club plus the Men’s Club of Indian Hills. He was very loyal to anything he agreed to, definitely a man of his word. His hobby was fishing.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Lou Akley; son, Dennis O’Leary; son-in-law, Kevin Killeen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jewell McClarnon and Marshall (Anne) McClarnon.
    He is survived by his wife, Mary of the home; children, Connie (Ron) Henschen of New Melle, Missouri, Barbara (Gary) Pate of O’Fallon, Missouri, Sandy Killeen of Cuba, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Linda O’Leary of Fulton, Missouri; sisters, Shirley O’Leary and Charlotte (John) Randazzo, all of St. Charles, Missouri; sister-in-law, Jean (John) Sears of Ballwin, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Tanis (Marcus) Bast of Cuba, Missouri, Tara (Scottie) Russell of Foristell, Missouri, Marcus Pate, of O’Fallon, Missouri, Ryan Ellebracht of Hazelwood, Missouri, Matt and Mandy Killeen of Cuba, Missouri, Tiffany and Joshua Pate of O’Fallon, Missouri; five great grandchildren, Kiyah and Neela Bast, Bayley Pate, Kyle Killeen, and Ayden Lorenz; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was
Tuesday, May 5, 2009 from 5-9 p.m. and funeral at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri with Rev. Gary Mace officiating.
    Burial at
Meramec Hills Cemetery.

    Ted Allen Paquet of
St. Louis, Missouri, was born October 6, 1951 and passed away April 22, 2009 at the age of 57 years.
    He was a Marine Veteran and a 1969 graduate from Crawford County R-II School in
Cuba, Missouri.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Paquet and brother, Gary Paquet.
    He is survived by children, Leslie (Pete), Andrea (Adam), Dana, Mark, Olivia; step daughter, Samantha; grandchildren, Amanda, Holly, Jacob, Robert, PJ, Devin, and Ryan; mother, Virigina; siblings, Norman, Elizabeth (Bill), Patti, Shari (Neal),
David, Kathi (Rick); sister-in-law, Fran Paquet; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was held
Saturday, April 25, 2009 from 9-10 a.m. for family.  Open visitation was from 10 a.m. to time of service at noon
    Services were at the Lords Funeral Home,
St. Louis, Missouri.
    Interment at
Park Lawn Cemetery, South County.

Irene Esther Parry
    Irene Esther Parry of St. James, Missouri was born April 4, 1919, in Rolla, Missouri to Frederick and Helen Haas Sachs and passed away Saturday, May 24, 2009, in Rolla, at the age of 90 years, 1 month, and 20 days.
    Irene was united in marriage to Wilber Parry on
June 10, 1942, and to this union two children were born.
    She was a member of
Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rolla. She was also very active in the Busy Bee Quilting Club, Peace and Plenty Garden Club, and was the secretary of the Asher Cemetery.
    She was an avid gardener who was always ready to share the nice crop of vegetables she reaped from her beautiful gardens. She loved to cook and always canned from her garden to make sure her family could share in her fresh vegetables throughout the year.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilber in January of 1986, and daughter, Pamela Sue.
    She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Tilford, of
St. James, Missouri; grandchildren, Nathaniel Tilford and his wife Angela, and Sarena  Langston and her husband Garrett; and great grandchildren, Aidan and Alek Tilford.
    Visitation was
Wednesday, May 27, 2009.
    Funeral service was at
10 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2009 in the St. James Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary with Pastor Stephan Kamprath officiating.
    Interment in the
Asher Cemetery.

Robert “Bob” Charles Perkins
    Robert “Bob” Charles Perkins of
Steelville, Missouri was born June 9, 1947 in Steelville, Missouri to Homer and Mary Virginia (Burroughs) Perkins and passed away on Monday, May 11, 2009 at the Harry S Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri at the age of 61 years.
    He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the
Vietnam era from 1967 until 1971.
During the years, Bob had different career paths after graduating from
University of Missouri at Columbia. He was a loan officer at Peoples Bank, the Parks Director at Washington, Missouri, co-owner of the Viburnum Building Supply and a Real Estate Broker and Owner in Steelville.
    He was a member of the Steelville Presbyterian Church and a member of the Steelville Area Chamber of Commerce and served as president two terms during the years 1994 and 1995. He also served as a member of the Steelville Civic Organization a few years ago. He served his community as the President of the City Park Board and as a member of the Park Board for many years.
    Bob was a big fan of Mizzou Tiger football and basketball, the St. Louis Cardinals and was always a big supporter of all Steelville sports. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed floating the nearby rivers.
    Bob always made friends very easily and will be remembered by all who knew him.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Mary Virginia Perkins and his brother, Jim Perkins.
    He is survived by his son, James “Russell” Perkins II of Columbia, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Marti Perkins of Naples, Florida; one nephew, Bobby Joseph Perkins and wife Casey of Newnan, Georgia; one niece, Jamie Sweeney and husband Rob of Manningtree Essex, UK; three great nieces; a very special business associate, Alisha Ransom; other relatives and friends. He will also be missed by his little Yorkie dog, Tommy Polo Perkins.
    Visitation was from
4-8 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
    The funeral service was held at
11 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Cindy Martin officiating. Special music of “The King Is Coming” was sung by Mark Perkins with Deloris Bell accompanying. A reflection of memories was presented by Mark Perkins.
    Committal prayer and burial were in the
Pleasant Point Cemetery at Steelville, Missouri. Military Honors were given by the U.S. Air Force.

Beulah Quinley
    Beulah Quinley was born
April 30, 1917 in Sligo, Missouri to Charles and Bertha Hutson and passed away on June 3, 2009 at the age of 92 years.
    She last resided in
Piedmont, Missouri.  She was the oldest of 10 children.
     Beulah worked as a secretary alongside her husband in their real estate office for 26 years until retiring.  She was a Sunday school teacher for over 60 years and a member of
Tabernacle Baptist Church in Piedmont, Missouri.
     Beulah was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ray Silas Quinley; two infant children; siblings, Anna, Ross, Don, Jewel, Carl and Vivian.
    She is survived by siblings Minnie and Ruby; two daughters, Virginia Talbert (John) of Beardstown, Illinois and Brenda Cobb (Steven) of St. Charles, Missouri; six grandchildren, Tammy Keenan (Mark), Spencer Talbert (Renita), Tracy Talbert (Jeff Mornar), Melissa Demay (Ted), Christopher Whorton (Corrie), and Brittney Cobb; 11 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

Elizabeth Jane Stewart Ray
    Elizabeth Jane Stewart Ray of Cuba, Missouri was born Monday, July 1, 1907 at Cuba, Missouri to the union of James and Minerva (nee Enloe) Burleson and passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 101 years, 9 months and 28 days.
    
Elizabeth was united in marriage to Horace Stewart April 1927 and to this union six children were born.
    
Elizabeth was united in marriage to Herman Ray in September of 1975.
    
Elizabeth spent her life taking care of her family. She was a life time member of the First Baptist Church of Cuba, Missouri. She had a great sense of humor, excellent storyteller, fabulous cook “especially blackberry cobbler,” great seamstress and in her later years she enjoyed traveling across the United States and even to some European countries.
    She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands; two sons, William and Chuck Stewart; one son-in-law, Bill Albrecht; three sisters, Mary Lou and husband John Miller, Lula Martha and husband Claude Stevens and Dolly Ellen and husband James Delashmett; three brothers, John Dewey and wife Marie Burleson, James Alva and wife Bonnie Burleson and Claude W. “Ted” and wife Cleta Burleson; other relatives and friends.
    She is survived by sons, Robert “Bob” and wife Joyce Stewart and Cliff and wife Jodi Stewart of Cuba, Missouri; daughters, June Albrecht of Cuba, Missouri and Nancy and husband Don Fisher of Fort Mauve, Arizona; daughters-in-law, Marilyn Stewart of Cuba, Missouri and Lou Stewart of Waynesville, Missouri; 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; other relatives and friends.

Ralph E. Ray
    Ralph E. Ray of Steelville, Missouri was born on Thursday, July 18, 1918 in Willow Springs, Missouri to James Carson Ray and Sammie Graham Ray. He passed away at Cuba Manor on
Friday, April 3, 2009 at the age of 90 years, 8 months, and 16 days.
    Ralph served his country honorably in the United States Army. He married Delores Sanders in
Willow Springs, Missouri in 1936 and to this union three children were born.
    He later was married to Anna Brand Long on
October 3, 1975 in St. Louis, Missouri. Ralph had previously been employed by Gibbs Care Center, Steelville, Missouri as their grounds keeper. His hobbies were gardening and watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Eddie Lee Ray; daughter, Deanna Ray; wives Delores Ray and Anna Ray; stepson, Lloyd Long; three brothers, Jim, Ora, and Charlie Ray; and three sisters Maude Woods, Velma Peters and Pearl Ray.
    He is survived by his son, Norval (Yvette) Ray of Warrenton,
Missouri; stepsons, Nick (Janey) Long of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri and Dick (Nancy) Long of St. Peters, Missouri; step daughter-in-law, Holly Long of St. Charles, Missouri; 17 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; other relatives and friends.

John A. Robertson, Jr.
    John A Robertson, Jr. of De Soto, Missouri was born Friday, December 1, 1944 at St. Louis, Missouri to John A. Robertson, Sr. and Florence (nee White) Robertson and passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Crystal City, Missouri at the age of 64 years, 4 months and 21 days.
    John proudly served in the United States Army from
December 2, 1966 to September 4, 1968.
    John graduated from
Lindenwood University, St. Charles, Missouri with a Master’s Degree in Hospital Administration. He worked as a hospital administrator for the Hospital Corporation of America for 15 years. He traveled many places with his career, Oregon, California, Texas and Missouri. He enjoyed music, played the sax in a band, fishing, working with stained glass and making jewelry. He was always a snappy dresser and enjoyed drinking coffee.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother-in-law, James Gross; other family and friends.
    He is survived by a son, Jon Paul Robertson; daughter, Kelli and husband Charles Sharp; like-a-daughter, Melanie Turner; three sisters, Marilyn Gross of Osprey, Florida, Sue and husband Jim Cobb of St. Peters, Missouri and Peggy and husband Dan Jacobsmeyer of Ballwin, Missouri; two grandchildren, Courtni and Nicholas; other relatives and friends.

A. Duane Rogers
    A. Duane Rogers of Rolla, Missouri, was born April 1, 1938, in Welch, Oklahoma, to George Robert and Beulah (Lawson) Rogers and   passed away Monday, April 27, 2009, at the age of 71.
    Duane graduated from
Welch High School; he went on to attend Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and Oklahoma State University. He received his Master’s Degree in Education from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg.
    He came to
Missouri in the fall of 1960, serving as a teacher and later principal at Lincoln, Missouri.
    Duane was united in marriage to Mary Francis Althoff on
May 31, 1964, and to this union three children were born.
    In 1967 he joined the Missouri Department of Education in
Jefferson City, Missouri.
    He was preceded in death by his father and brothers John and Eugene.
    He is survived by his wife of the home; mother, Beulah Rogers of Welch, Oklahoma; children, Maretta Diestelkamp and husband Bob, of St. James, Missouri, Dana Wootten, of Bowling Green, Missouri, John Rogers and wife Nya, of Rolla, Missouri; grandchildren, Rene and Amie Diestelkamp, Lynnea and Alison Wootten, and Madison and JT Rogers; sister, Helen Hadley and husband Harold, of Springfield, Missouri; brother, Gary Rogers and wife Rebecca, of Knoxville, Tennessee; other relatives and friends.

    Edward L. Rose Sr. was born July 17, 1932 in Troy, Missouri to Charles and Mildred (Colbert) Rose and passed away Sunday, May 17, 2009 in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 76 years.
   Edward L. Rose Sr. was untied in marriage to Grace Marie and to this union four children were born.
    Edward was a member of the Victory Christian Church; he enjoyed horses and gardening, always reaping a big bounty from his garden ready to share with family and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mildred Rose; wife, Grace and son, Daniel P. Rose.

    Irene Roster of
St. James, Missouri, was born August 6, 1904 in St. James to John and Louise (Wycoff) Snelson and passed away April 23, 2009 at the Golden Living Center at the age of 104 years, 8 months and 17 days.
    Irene was united in marriage to Henry Roster and to this union six children were born. Henry passed away in 1974.
    Irene was a member of the
First Baptist Church in St. James, Missouri, for many years. She loved gardening, crocheting and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Raymond Roster; stepson Randolph Roster; other relatives and friends.
    She is survived by her children, Ralph Roster, of St. James, Missouri, Clara Venable and husband Leland, of Cahokia, Illinois, Betty Brandt and husband Victor, of St. Clair, Missouri, Harriet Sedlocek, of Dexter, Missouri and Harold Roster, of Eldon, Missouri; 16 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Connie Jean Ryerson
    Connie Jean Ryerson of Bourbon,
Missouri was born in Bourbon, Missouri on November 17, 1956 to Luis Allen and Naomi Lucille (nee Crow) Ryerson and passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the age of 52 years.
    Connie was an avid fan of literature and always dreamed of being a teacher. Despite loosing her vision several years ago, her constant optimism gave her the courage to begin taking courses at
East Central College earlier this year. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Connie was a woman of strong faith and enjoyed attending church services and listening to Christian music.
    She was preceded in death by her father.
    She is survived by her mother, Naomi Ryerson of Bourbon, Missouri; three children, Amanda Griffith and fiancé Brian Black, Crystal Griffith and Justin Griffith, all of Sullivan, Missouri; three brothers, Raymond Ryerson and wife Kathryn, Allen Ryerson and fiancée Mary Roberts, and Dale Ryerson, all of Bourbon, Missouri; one sister, Kathy Atkinson and husband Randy of Lebanon, Missouri; a special granddaughter, Maddison Black; other relatives and friends.

10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the Leasburg Assembly of God with Pastor Don Vaughn officiating.

    Brian Eric Sample, 33, of Rosebud, Missouri was born in Sullivan on January 21, 1976, the son of Leon and Lynda (Bowman) Sample and passed away   Friday, May 1, 2009 at his residence at the age of 33 years.
    On
June 7, 2008 at St. James UCC in Charlotte he was united in marriage to Heather Lansford.
    He was a member of St. James UCC, Owensville Threshers Association, Gasconade County Fair Tractor Pull Committee and the Operators Local #148.

Elmer J. Sapp
    Elmer J. Sapp of Cuba, Missouri formerly of Lamar, Colorado was born to the union of Ernest and Anna (Yonally) Sapp on October 19, 1921 at Wells, Kansas passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 87 years, 6 months and 6 days.
    Elmer retired from Sante Fe Railroad after 40+ years of service as a Ticket Agent. He faithfully served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army/Air Corp. and was a member of the Lamar Christian Church,
Colorado. He enjoyed traveling and visited 49 States including Hawaii. His hobbies included playing cards, riding horses and square dancing.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Elfreda (Marshall) Sapp; second wife, Wilma H. (Lundgren) Sumners-Sapp; and one sister, Edna Thomeczek.
    He is survived by two daughters, Patricia and husband
David Doyle of Steelville, Missouri, Carole Sapp and partner Linda Hostetter of Independence, Missouri; one sister, Betty and husband Joe Buckhaults of La Junta, Colorado; two granddaughters, Janet and husband Murray Hempe of Edgewater, Florida and Wanda and husband Thomas Conley of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; four great grandchildren, Elaina and Matt Hempe, Elizabeth and Thomas II Conley; ]other relatives and friends.

Elaine Krewson Scheel
    Elaine Scheel of St. James, Missouri was born in Phelps County on October 17, 1933, the daughter of Elijah Jacob and Rose (Holman) Krewson and passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009 at her residence at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 4 days.
    On
December 22, 1951 in St. James, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Henry Elmer Scheel.
    She was a faithful member of the
High Gate Baptist Church and also volunteered at St. James Golden Age Center. Elaine and her husband owned and operated a Hereford Cattle farm preceding Henry’s death in 1997.
    Before retiring in 1995 Elaine was employed by California Mfg. Co. for 35 years in the position of production manager and plant manager.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, of 45 years; brother, Henry Krewson and parents, Elijah Jacob and Rose Krewson.
    She is survived by her sons,
David W. Scheel and Daniel W. Schell and wife Angie, all of St. James, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Bobbie, Jamie, Jason, Nicole, Alana, Amanda and Elijah (EJ); four great grandchildren, Phoenix, Aubree, Payton and Phoebe.
    Visitation was from
1-5 p.m. Monday, May 25, 2009 at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville, Missouri.
    Funeral services were

Charles A. Schumer
    Charles A. Schumer of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of Edward F. and Clara (Schlatman) Schumer on October 25, 1933 in Perryville, Missouri and passed away Friday, May 8, 2009 in Cuba, Missouri at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 14 days.
    Charlie was a retiree of American Can Company in
St. Louis, Missouri. He formerly owned and operated Charlie & Sons Hardware in South St. Louis. He enjoyed being a Handy Man and rehabbing homes. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward F. and Clara (Schlatman) Schumer; three brothers, Elbert, Cletus and Leroy Schumer; two sisters, Rosalia Renaud and Loretta Finn.
    He is survived by his wife, Pat Schumer (nee Taylor) of Cuba, Missouri; eight children, Edward Schumer of Chesterfield, Missouri; Karen (John) Brooks of Chesterfield, Missouri; John (Susan) Schumer of Shrewsbury, Missouri; Laura (Dan) Furrer of Oakville, Missouri; Diane (Rick) Shreves of O’Fallon, Missouri; Renee (Mike) Floyd of Eureka, Missouri; Marc (Jill) Schumer of Kansas City, Missouri and Kurt (Nicole) Schumer of Jacksonville, Florida; two sisters, Dorothy Farishon of Florissant, Missouri and Lucille (Bob) Sego of Cuba, Missouri; 29 grandchildren, four great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

    Clyde Edward Snodgrass Sr. of
St. James, Missouri was born November 6, 1934 at Rolla, Missouri, the son of the late Clarence E. and Maude (Earls) Snodgrass and passed away quietly at his home on Friday, May 8, 2009 at the age of 74 years, 6 months, and 4 days of age.
    On
April 24, 1954, Clyde was united in marriage to Helen Pearl Flynn at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Revere, Massachusetts.
    He is survived by his wife Helen Snodgrass of
St. James, Missouri; one son, Ed Snodgrass and wife Glenda of Rolla, Missouri; two daughters, Helen Barker of Athens, Texas and Debora Smith and husband Randy of Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas; seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
    Visitation was
Monday, May 11, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri. Prayer Service was held at 7 p.m.
     Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. James, Missouri, with Basil Euro celebrant.
    Ministry of Music was provided by Helen Cornick and Estelle Grotha.
    Pallbears were Travis Smith, Tony Snodgrass, Keith Colgrove, Aaron Wassilak, Austin Colgrove, and Devin Figueroa.
    Burial with full Military Honors at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in
St. James, Missouri.

Buton “Rusty” Spiers
    Buton “Rusty” Spiers was a Christmas present, born
December 25, 1926 in Lake Cormorant, Mississippi to Alfred and Elsie (Wilson) White and passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009 in St. James, Missouri at the age of 82.
    Buton worked for the U.S. Forest Service until her retirement. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in St. James. She loved cooking, spending time with family and studying the Bible. She was truly a faithful servant of God.
    She was preceded in death by her sister, Marie White; parents; and her youngest daughter, Wanda Foster.
    She is survived by her husband, Thomas Spiers; children, Phil Scruggs and wife Debbie of Edgar Springs, Missouri, Gail Boyce and husband Jim of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kim Roberts and wife Melanie of Hernando, Misssissippi and Randy Rouse of Grand Junction, Colorado; sisters, Gloria Dove and husband Dick of Sanford, Florida and Jerri Sullivan of Memphis, Tennessee; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; other relatives and friends.

Alfred E. Spurgeon
    Alfred E. “Al” Spurgeon of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of the Alfred E. and Frances Bryan (nee Wright) Spurgeon on Saturday, June 7, 1924 at Denver, Colorado and passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at St. James, Missouri at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 24 days.
    Al proudly served as a Private First Class in the United States Army during WWII from
February 17, 1943 until January 6, 1946. He fought in the Omaha Beach and the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded three Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.
    Al retired in 1987 after many years of service as the Highway Maintenance Supervisor for Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cuba, Missouri and the Cuba Saddle Club. His life revolved around his horses, in which he enjoyed being a trainer, going on trail rides and attending the National Rodeo Finals. He also was the State Champion in Team Pining. He also enjoyed raising cattle, deer hunting and being outdoors.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, LaVern (nee Lay) Spurgeon; one brother, James Spurgeon; one sister, Dora Jane Spurgeon; step-mother, Docia Spurgeon; other relatives and friends.
    He is survived by his aunt, Marjorie Spurgeon and family of St. James, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Mary Spurgeon of St. James, Missouri; one nephew, Norman and wife Linda Spurgeon and family of St. James, Missouri; one niece, Rita and husband Tom Keith and family of Henley, Missouri; step-sister, Virginia Hogan and family of Bourbon, Missouri; other relatives and friends.

Thursday, April 2, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. at Britton Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri.

Nellie Jane Spurgeon
    Nellie Jane Spurgeon formerly of St. James.
Missouri was born on June 19, 1928 at Safe, Missouri to William Bola and M. Galena (Smith) Welch and passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Westphalia Retirement in Westphalia, Missouri.  She was 80 years, 10 months and 22 days of age.
    Jane graduated from
St. James High School and attended Beauty School in Jefferson City, Missouri.  She was a beauty operator in St. James, Missouri for many years.  She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in St. James, Missouri.
    Jane was united in marriage
March 8, 1947, in Tupelo, Mississippi to Kenneth Duane Spurgeon, who preceded her in death on November 4, 1970. They had one child, William Ranzy Spurgeon, who preceded her in death on November 4, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Anna Christina Welch and Myrtle Rinehart, and two brothers, James William Welch and Cecil B. Welch.
    She is survived by Diana Spurgeon Breen and husband Tom of Hartsburg, Missouri; grandchildren, Sarah Willson and husband Darren, William Ranzy Spurgeon Jr. and wife Sarah, all of Jefferson City, Missouri, Jonathan Spurgeon and wife Hilary of Columbia, Missouri; great grandchildren, Lathe, Cale, and Ava Willson; sisters, Ethel Mae Gunset, Grace Corbin and husband Harold, Wilma Ann Tipton and husband Leroy and Betty Grotha.
    Visitation was from
6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel in St. James, Missouri.

Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri with Mary Taylor officiating.

David Tipton, Dennis Tipton, Richard Grotha, Mike Grotha, and Greg Grotha.
    Burial will be in the family plot in the
Oak Forest Cemetery.

Luewida Strong
    Luewida Strong of Cuba, Missouri was born Saturday, September 21, 1918 at Shiloh, Kentucky to the union of Robert and Ila (nee Green) Bugg and passed away Sunday, April 19, 2009 at Rolla, Missouri at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 28 days.
    Luewida rode a horse to school and at the age of 13 in 1932 she moved to Wood River,
Illinois and starting working as a car hop. She was united in marriage to Harold Tant in 1936 and to this union one daughter was born.
    She worked for the International Shoe Company making boots for the war.
    Luewida worked for over 20 years in the banking business before retiring as the Head of New Accounts for First National Bank in
Wood River, Illinois. She was united in marriage in 1971 to Chester Strong. She worked in Alton, Illinois as an In-Home-Care facilitator.
    She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wood River,
Illinois and attended the Cuba United Methodist Church after moving to Indian Hills in 1988. She was part of “Gods Little Lambs” program, which was started for pre school children at the Cuba United Methodist Church. She was a Wal-Mart greeter, volunteered in the office at the Cuba Senior Center and was a member of the Indian Lake Ladies Auxiliary. She always had a love for music, friends, food and especially spending time with family.
    She was preceded in death by her first husband; parents; three brothers, Dennis,
Alton and Ferguson Bugg; one sister, Christine Jewell; other relatives and friends.
    She is survived by her daughter, Marlene and husband Jerry Dupy of Cuba, Missouri; special friend, Chester Strong of Illinois; sister, Elene Morgan of Westfield, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Jeff and wife Jill Dupy and Jay and wife Christine Dupy; four great grandchildren, Jolie, Jada, Jordan and Andrew Dupy; other relatives and friends.
    Funeral service was held at
11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens Chapel, Bethalto, Illinois.
    A “Celebration of Life Service” will be held in
Cuba, Missouri at a later date.

James Edward Trautwein
    James Edward Trautwein Jr. was born
Tuesday, December 31, 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri to James Edward Trautwein Sr. and Agnus Wright Trautwein. He passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at his home near Steelville, Missouri at the age of 68 years, 4 months and 6 days.
    Jim worked as a carpenter most of his life and was accomplished at most any thing he under took. Moving to Steelville from
Dittmer, Missouri about 28 years ago, he started out in a humble beginning, living in a tent while building his cabin. Jim continued to build out buildings and later built a new house, which was still a work in progress. Jim was a quiet hard working man. He enjoyed nature, sunrises and sunsets, building things and hunting. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Steelville, Missouri and the National Rifle Assoc. He loved his family and friends, always enjoying the time they spent together.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Raymond Salas and a granddaughter, Jessica Trautwein.
    He is survived by his wife Pamela of the home; three sons, James Edward Trautwein III of Sullivan, Missouri, John Trautwein of Herman, Missouri and Josh Trautwein of Steelville, Missouri; one sister, Gloria Schroder and husband Carl of Tampa, Florida; sister-in-law Beth Holberg of San Diego, California; four step children, Jennifer Winner of Steelville, Missouri, Micheal Morrill of San Diego, California, Lauren Pearman of Branson, Missouri and Frank Pearman and fiancee Logan Jones of Cherryville, Missouri; seven grandchildren; four step grandchildren; special friends, Shane and Sandy Mahurin of Eldon, Missouri, Jim and Geneva Young of Steelville, Missouri and Dave Meinell of St. Charles, Missouri; other relatives and friends.

William “Bill” Leo Turnbough
    William “Bill” Leo Turnbough, Jr. of Bridgeton, Missouri, formerly of Cedar Hill, Missouri was born August 8, 1954 in St. Louis, Missouri to William “Bill” L. and Kaye Eileen (Lindsey) Turnbough and passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 54 years.
    Bill was a member of the Local Laborer’s Union #42 in
St. Louis.
    As a young man, Bill had committed his life to Christ.
    He was an avid fan of the St. Cardinals Baseball Team.
    He is survived by his companion, Leisha Boardly of Bridgeton, Missouri; one son, Bill Turnbough, III of Cedar Hill, Missouri; one daughter, Katherine Turnbough of Cedar Hill, Missouri; parents, Bill and Kaye Turnbough of Steelville, Missouri; two brothers, Don and John Turnbough of Steelville, Missouri; two sisters, Susan Bogert and husband Charles of Cedar Hill, Missouri and Sandy Carrow and companion, Mike Orr of Cherryville, Missouri; one grandson, Liam Turnbough; other relatives and many friends.

    Delores “Dee” Marion Turner of
Steelville, Missouri was born Monday, November 9, 1931 at St. Louis, Missouri to Reginald and Marion Louise (nee McGavock) DeVydt and passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 77 years, 6 months and 19 days.
    
Dee worked in St. Louis at a book binding company many years. Before retiring she worked as a cook at Gibbs Care Center in Steelville. She was a member of Elayer Pentecostal Church of Steelville for many years.
    
Dee enjoyed fishing but what she enjoyed most in life was her family and spending time with them.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Reginald and Marion DeVydt; other relatives and friends.
    She is survived by her husband, Daniel Turner of the home; four sons, Edward and wife Bonnie Hemby of Cuba, Missouri, Bill  and wife Sue Hemby of Jefferson City, Missouri, Jack and wife wife Janet Hemby of Dexter, Missouri and Gary and wife Rita Hemby of Wentzville, Missouri; four step children, Gladine Turner of Steelville, Missouri, Daniel Turner of Cuba, Missouri, Preston and wife Laura Turner of Cherryville, Missouri and Rodger Turner of Cuba, Missouri; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren; half brother, Donald; other relatives and friends.

Lloyd T. “Tommy” West
    Lloyd T. “Tommy” West of Sullivan, Missouri was born at Rolla, Missouri to Irene V. (Bell) and Wilber Loyd West and passed away at his home on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at the age of 53 years.
    Due to his father’s employment, Tommy was raised in various parts of the country and had lived the past 10 years or so in the Sullivan area. He was a devoted Christian and was baptized at an early age. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Sullivan, Missouri and was known as a person who was pure in heart and enjoyed making people laugh. Tommy loved watching wrestling and reading DC and Marvel Comic Books. His favorite super hero was Batman. His dog “Snoopy” was his best friend and companion. He also enjoyed going to the movies and out for ice cream and church functions with his good pal Charlie Gehlauf.
    He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Danny Gene West and a sister, Brenda Lee West.
    He is survived by his mother, Irene West of Sullivan, Missouri; two sisters; Deanne Vanness of Sullivan, Missouri and Monica Gilliam of Bourbon, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was from
10 a.m. until  noon on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri.

   Larry J. Williamson of St. James, Missouri was born June 21, 1939 in Fulton, Missouri to Roy and Bernice (Wyatt) Williamson and passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at his home in rural St. James, Missouri, after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 69 years.
    Larry worked for many years at Phillips & Company in
Rolla, Missouri. Larry enjoyed working with shotguns, beautiful wood stocks, trapshooting, and his German Wirehair dogs; he loved bird hunting and worked to improve the quail population in the area.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Clifford Williamson and son, Clifford Daniel Williamson.
    He is survived by his wife, Leona, of the home; children, David Williamson and wife Kathy of Rolla, Missouri, Angie McClure and husband Dan of Texas, Alicia Barr and husband Matt of Rolla, Missouri, Doug Williamson and wife Kim of Wyoming; step children, Jennifer Bauer and husband Kevin of Minot AFB, North Dakota, William Biddle of St. Louis, Missouri, Allison Arias of Fenton, Missouri; grandchildren, Jody and Jessica, of Texas, Casey, Mindy, Ty and Bethy of Rolla, Missouri, Ashley and Ryan of Texas, Jay, Mickey and Zach of Wyoming and Alex, of Fenton, Missouri; four great grandchildren; mother, Bernice Williamson of Hannibal, Missouri; sister, Linda Lucas and husband Jesse of Frankford, Missouri; brother Jim Williamson and wife Anita of West Branson, Missouri; brother-in-law, George Grubb and family of St. Louis, Missouri; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Grubb and family of St. James, Missouri; Don Shaw and wife Winnie and family of Jefferson City, Missouri; other relatives and friends.

George Robert Williams
    George Robert Williams of Cuba, Missouri was born Friday, April 20, 1945 at Watsonville, California to the union Jess Donald and Etha Annie (nee Spence) Williams and passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Rolla, Missouri at the age of 64 years, 1 month and 13 days.
    George proudly served in the United States Army from 1968 till 1977. He served two tours in
Vietnam and Korea.
    He worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years. The last 12 years he worked for J.H. Berra Construction in
St. Louis, Missouri as a highlift operator. He was a member of the Local 513 in Bridgeton, Missouri, VFW Post 7147 of Cuba and the American Legion Post of Cuba, Missouri.
    George enjoyed food of all kinds, especially “White Castles.” In his younger years he enjoyed fishing, camping, deer hunting, dancing and garage selling. He was a collector of trains, knives and guns. He was known, in the last several years, for his singing, toe tapping, enjoying peanut butter and grape jelly sandwiches and chocolate milkshakes. But what George enjoyed and loved most, was spending time with his family and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Etha Williams; sister, Gayleanne Williams; grandson, Blake Robert Williams; other relatives and friends.
    He is survived by his wife, Annalee Williams of Cuba, Missouri; children, Valerie Martin and Elaina Barnet of Arkansas, Robert Cannon Williams of St. James, Missouri, Melanie Moore of Illinois, Christina and husband Fernando Padilla of Cuba, Missouri, Christopher Grayson Lunsford and fiancée Christine Utnage of Cuba, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, Alexis, Audra, Mark, Mara, Cody, Lexxie, Ciara, Ambyer, Jessica, Shianne and Stevi; two great grandchildren, Matthew and Miyah; four sisters, Nancy Roose and Arlene Roberts of California, BonniLee and husband Clifford Stockton and MaryLou Kastens of Oregon; two sisters-in-law, Terry Grayson and Bob Riley of Cuba, Missouri and Jerry and husband Ed Hamilton of Centralia, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was held on
Saturday, June 6, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. at Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
    Funeral service was at
2 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Britton Funeral Home of Cuba with Pastor Bob Knight officiating. Special music for the service was “Go Rest High on that Mountain,” “Ships of Heaven” and “Angel.”
    Pallbearers were Paul Crow, Rodger Bridgeman, John Craig, Jason Riley, Doug Cottrell and John Koch.
    Interment followed at
Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri with full military honors.

James M. “Jim” Williams
    James M. “Jim” Williams, of Rolla, Missouri was born in Waynesville, Missouri, on October 7, 1950, to Ulysses “Budd” Stanley and Mary Elizabeth (Boulware) Stanley. He passed away
Monday, March 30, 2009, at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center at the age of 58 years, 5 months and 23 days.
     On
May 22, 2004, he married Barbara Welschmeyer.
    Jim was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He attended the
Mount Olive Baptist Church in Doolittle, Missouri.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Jamie and one brother, George.
    He is survived by his wife of the home; his son, Joe Williams, of Buffalo, Wyoming; step daughters, Deanne Connell and husband Tim, of Holt Summit, Missouri, and Grace Brooks, of Rolla, Missouri; brothers, Stan Williams and wife Linda, of Newburg, Missouri and Johnnie Williams and wife Gail, of Eagle River, Wisconsin; two sisters, Doris McCoy, of Rolla, Missouri and Connie Heavin and husband Gary, of St. James, Missouri; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Marty and Angela Welschmeyer, of Freeburg, Missouri; sister-in-law, Janet Hale, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; three grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was from
6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at the Null & Son Funeral Home, Rolla, Missouri.
    Funeral service was at
2 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2009, at the Null & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Timothy Hughs and Larry Davis officiating.  Interment followed in Ozark Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Ruby Lee Williams
    Ruby Lee Williams of
Steelville, Missouri formerly of Leasburg, Missouri was born Wednesday, October 14, 1914 at Crawford County, Missouri to the union of Giles and Edith (nee Clonts) Williams and passed away Monday, May 4, 2009 at Gibbs Care Center, Steelville, Missouri at the age of 94 years, 6 months and 21 days.
    Ruby was united in marriage to Cleveland Williams at
St. Louis, Missouri in 1946. She worked at the Small Arms Plant in St. Louis during the war. She worked at a manufacturing company in St. Louis for many years after the war making fans and refrigerators. She enjoyed mowing grass, working in her yard, ballroom dancing, fine dinning and traveling. After retiring, Ruby moved from St. Louis to Leasburg to be with her sister Edna. She attended the First Southern Baptist Church of Leasburg.
    She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Ward and Edwin Williams; three sisters, Edna Walker, Velma Knight and Alice Jones; other relatives and friends.
    She is survived by her sister-in-law, Ruby Williams of Steelville,
Missouri; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was held
Wednesday, May 6, 2009 from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
    Funeral service was at
1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 with Pastor Terry King officiating. Special music for the service is “Amazing Grace” and “Oh Danny Boy.”

Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri.

Deloris R. Willig
    Deloris R. Willig of Sullivan, Missouri was born November 3, 1924 to John and Lula Mae (Bayless) Enloe and passed away Thursday, April 23, 2009 at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 20 days.
    Deloris was raised in the Oak Hill area and professed her faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Assembly of God Church at Oak Hill. She later moved to
St. Louis, Missouri where she worked at the small arms plant during WWII. She later moved to the Sullivan, Missouri area where she was employed for a time at the former PACCO plant.
    On
September 22, 1958 Deloris was united in marriage to Wayne Edgar Willig and to this union three children were born.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Herb and Jim Enloe; three sisters, Edna Wise, Luloa Dobkins and Ruth Bell Kendricks; great grandson, Ean Michael Hill; other relatives and freinds.
    She is survived by two sons, Steve Willig and wife Kelly of West Alton, Missouri and, from a previous marriage, Ronnie Miller of San Diego, California; two daughters, Debra Board and special friend Jim Ballard and Sherri Hill and husband Mike, all of Sullivan, Missouri; five grandchildren, Daniell Dodd Curtis and husband Tim of Winslow, Arizona, Timothy Board of Sullivan, Missouri, Mikey Hill and wife Tasha of Sullivan, Missouri, Emily Hill and special friend Josh Farrell of Sullivan, Missouri and Durrenda Willig of West Alton, Missouri; four great grandchildren; one sister, Georgia Farris of Sullivan, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
    Funeral services were conducted at
2 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2009 from the Southside Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri with Pastor Scott Perry officiating.
    Interment was in
Hodge-Enloe Cemetery, rural Cuba, Missouri.

Kenneth Arthur Young
    Kenneth Arthur Young was born September 6, 1934 in Marshfield, Missouri to
Earl and Clara Alexander Young and passed away April 28 in Merrifield, Minnesota at the age of 74.
    He attended
Marshfield schools with the class of 1953.  He later moved to St. James, Missouri and married Shirley Hoffmeister.  To this union two children were born.
    He was employed with the City Utilities of St. James for 38 years before retiring in 1997.  He and Shirley moved to
Minnesota in 2007 to be near their children.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother,
David Earl Young.
    He is survived by his wife; one son, Mark Young; one daughter, Nilah Abbott, both of
Minnesota; two grandchildren, Derrick and Delaney; other relatives and friends.
    He was a member of the Christian Church,
St. James, Missouri.
    Burial was in
Minnesota.
