Charles B. Adams, of Trail Creek Township, Harrison County Missouri, known as "Babe Adams", pitcher with the Pittsburg Pirates 1909-1925, the son of Samuel and Nancy (Tower) Adams, was born May 18, 1882 at Tipton Indiana.  He came to Mount Moriah, Missouri with his parents March 1, 1898.  He died in Silver Spring, Maryland at the age of 86 on July 27, 1968.

"Babe" began his professional pitching career in baseball in 1904 with Parsons, Kansas, and ended his career in 1925 with the Pittsburg Pirates, for whom he played a total of 19 years.  During this time he pitched in two World Series-1909 against Detroit Tigers and in 1924 against the Washington Senators.  He pitched a 21 inning game on May 14, 1914 against the New York Giants, and didn't give a walk.  He also pitched 33 consecutive innings without issuing a base on balls.  He was noted for his control pitching, which has seldom been equalled.   His home town of Bethany, where he lived for many years, honored his memory by dedicating a baseball park in his name.  His election as one of the first members of the Harrison County Hall of Fame meant a great deal to him, and he was most proud of the honor.

Charles Adams was married on March 2, 1909 to Blanche Wright, daughter of George W. and Emza Jane (Gray) Wright.  Blanche Adams, born in Harrison County, Missouri, November 25, 1887, lives at Silver Spring, Maryland with her daughter.  Three generation in her family, (Blanche Adams, her mother Emza Jane Gray, and her grandfather, Joseph Gray) have spanned the administrations of all the Presidents of the United States from George Washington, down to President Gerald R. Ford.

Two children were born in Harrison Co. Mo to Charles and Blanche Adams:  Mary Elizabeth (born June 19, 1916) of Silver Springs Maryland, married Ralph Stewart Denham, Jr. (deceased, 1966) and Virginia Lee (born June 21, 1918) of Glen Ellyn, Illinois married Harry M. Henderson on September 9, 1939, they have one child, Mary Elizabeth Henerson.
