Part of a company of Americans and Mexicans who left Santa Fe about the first of June last, arrived in Franklin Missouri on the 5th of August with nearly five hundred mules and horses.  At the request of the editor of the Missouri Intellingencer, one of the party has furnished particulars from which it appears that when the company had arrived very near the American settlements a large body of Osage Indians fell in with them and plundered and otherwise ill treated them. Enterprising people of Glasgow are organizing a company to manufacture vitrified and pressed brick. They have discovered large quantities of fine material for carrying: on thia industry in and around Glasgow which has been properly tested.

Messrs. Lewis and Vorhees of New York, who are backing the Missouri Central Electric railway, are touring the line of the road and are royally entertained by the people of Howard county. These gentlemen are confident the road will be built in the near future.

A number of prominent cattle-breeders from Macoupin county, Ills.', were in Howard county last week buying cattle to ship to that state and put on feed for the early market next year. They purchased $18,000 worth of feeders and shipped them out during the week.

The  Ex Conferate soldiers of Howard county held a meeting at Armstrong last Saturday afternoon and perfected arrange ments for holding a big reunion in that city Saturday, October 8. Col. Henry Neece of Huntsville will be the principal speaker on the occasion.

Arthur Glasgow, a colored roust-about, who is charged with raising a racket on the Salisbury and Glasgow branch of the Wabash two years ago, and who disappeared, was arrested, near Glasgow, the other, day and brought to Keytesville and committed to the county jail.

Last week while Mrs. Charles Shepherd of Fayette was engaged in canning fruit, the can she was filling exploded, throwing the boiling hot contents around the room, some of which struck her on the face and hands, inflicting serious and painful burns.

A gang of successful burglars are touring Howard county just now in search of booty. They went through Bowman's hardware store at New Franklin, taking $178 worth of cutlery and revolvers. The same night they entered a drugstore and several private residences, helping themselves to anything that struck their fancy.
