Name of Deceased: Mrs. Sally B. Lewis
Newspaper: Glasgow Weekly Times (Glasgow, Mo.) Thursday,
Date: December 1, 1859
Submitters Name: Kathy McDaniel

Obit: OBITUARY.
Departed this life on the 16th instant, at her residence in Monticello, Mrs. Sally B. Lewis, relict of the late S. Walker Lewis, after a lingering illness of several weeks.
Mrs. Lewis was the daughter of Capt. Jno. Hancock, of Charlotte county, Va. She was born in 1801; married in 1817; moved with her husband to this State in 1835, settled in the village of Monticello, Howard county.
She lost her husband in 1844, and was left with the care of three children, mainly dependent, under the blessing of Providence, upon her own labors for their support.
Under this bereavment, her heart was turned to the only true source of consolation and strength and happily found in Him a present helper, who declares Himself "father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widow."
In 1847, she connected herself with the Methodist Church, and continued an humble, consistent, faithful christian to the day of her death.
None but those who knew her intimately in the family, could appreciate the beauty and excellence of her character. While she was courteous and kind to all, ever ready to adminster, as she was able, to the wants and necessities of any, warmly attached to those who were connected with her family, yet the strength of her nature seemed concentrated upon the welfare of her children. A mother's tenderness and solicitude were apparent in every word and action.
Her labors have ceased---her body awaits the resurrection summons, and her freed spirit has entered the Paradise of her Lord.
Blessed be the hope that lights up the darkness of the grave; may its cheering rays give comfort and strength to the hearts of her children, and may they so live, that death when it comes, shall bring no more of terror, than it did to their departed mother.
