Many hearts are pained and many tears will fall for the loss of one who sustained, to the fullest extent, all the vocations of a mother, a wife, a sister, and a friend. In 1849 (in connection with her husband) she united herself to the Christian Church in Glasgow, since which time she has been an ornament to the same, and when summoned to die, she called her family and friends around her and bid them farewell, and exhorted them to live a holy and pious life, and died strong in faith, with the assurance of that eternal life beyond the grave. But she is gone to her "eternal home," "gone to that haven of eternal rest," "gone to that bourne whence no traveller returns."

She died in beauty! like a rose
Blown from its parent stem;
She died in Beauty! like a pearl
Dropt from some diadem.
She died in Beauty! like the song
Along a moon-lit lake:
She died in beauty! like the song
Of birds among the brake.
She died in beauty! like the snow
On flowers dissolved away:
She died in beauty! like a star
Lost on the brown of day.
She lives in glory! like the night's gems
Set round the silver moon:
She lives in glory! like the sun
Amid the blue of June.
