Obit: David "Dave" Eugene Demery, Sr, age 65, Carl Junction, went home to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with lung cancer, on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at his home with his family by his side.

Dave was born January 21, 1943 in Joplin, son of the late Walter Demery and Ina (Larue) Demery. He attended Joplin and Neosho Schools, and worked for Eagle
Picher prior to beginning his career with Lozier Corporation where he worked for over 32 years before retiring November 3, 2006. He moved to Carl Junction in 1968, and was described by his family as a "hard working, family man".
He married Betty Jane Jones on December 2, 1962, in Joplin, she survives at the home. Additional survivors include two sons, David Demery, Jr. and wife Rochelle of Carl Junction, Greg Demery and wife Donna of Diamond, Missouri; daughter, Stacey Smith and husband Rick of Carl Junction; brother, Ron Demery of Joplin; sister, Maxine Szueber of Reyno, Arkansas; grandchildren, Matthew Demery and wife Mary of Joplin, Christopher Demery of Diamond, Heather Wright and husband Kyle of San Diego, California, Ashley Demery of Diamond, Kalli Smith of Carl Junction, Hunter Demery of Diamond, Nathaniel Demery and Jensen Smith both of Carl Junction; a great-grandson, Lake Brogdon of Joplin.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Chapel Church, on East 7th Street of Joplin.
Interment will follow in Saginaw Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Friday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorial contributions be made to the "Brains together for a Cure" care of Parker Mortuary.
Dave's wishes were that everyone dress casual, jeans are the preferred attire

Oliver "Ollie" Christopher Doke

Obit: DOKE FUNERAL MONDAY

Funeral services for Oliver C. Doke, 77 year old retired machinist, who died at 3:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 1955 at his home at 1003 Furnace Ave.
Mr. Doke was born March 5, 1877. He married Rebecca E. (Edens) Sampson. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, James H. Doke, and a sister, Mrs. Faye Burke, all of Joplin. Several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
Services will be held at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon in the Hulburt-Glover Mortuary chapel, with the Rev. B. A. Pugh officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ed Arrowood, Ralph Arrowood, Hary Arrowood,  Ed Hughes, Tommy Palverson,  and Clarence Drake.
The body will lie in state at the mortuary until the funeral hour.

Obit: MRS. REBECCA DOKE, 87 YEARS OLD, DIES

Mrs. Rebecca Doke, 87 years old, 1003 Furnace Avenue, passed away Dec. 5, 1957 at 6 o'clock this morning in a Joplin nursing home at 2302 Pennsylvania Ave. Mrs. Doke was born May 9, 1870 in Lawrence County, Mo., to Sylvanus Elias Edens and Mary Ann Winchester.
Mrs. Doke had lived in Joplin and the vicinity since she was 12 years old.
She married William Henry Sampson, November 18, 1893 in Neosho, Mo., He died May 14, 1902. She then married Oliver C. Doke, August 08, 1904 in Carthage, Mo., He died February 18, 1955.
Mrs. Doke was a member of the Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, James H. Doke, 201 McKee Avenue; a sister-in-law, Faye Burke, 1321 Furnace Avenue; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the Hulburt-Glover Mortuary Chapel.
The Rev. Robert Warren will officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Park Cemetery.
Friends may call at the mortuary after 6 o'clock tonight and until the funeral hour.

Obit: Lum C. Durfey , 85 years old, died at 3.40 o"clock Tuesday afternoon Feb 10, 1959 in the Kate Maddox rest home in Joplin, where he had been a patient since Jan 28th.

Mr Durfey was a retired farmer and formerly lived on R1 Carl Junction. He had lived with his son Dan Durfey at 520 North Elliot in Webb City for the last two years.

Surviving besides the son re six daughters Mrs Grace Johanessen of San Francisco, Calif. Mrs. Harold Earls of Lyons, Kan. Mrs Jack Caroll of Santa Barbara, Calif. Mrs Eulice Neal of Taft, Calif. Mrs. Jack Benton of Whitter, Calif. and and Miss Pauline Durfey of Arroyo Grande, Calif. one sister, Mrs. Mary Crow of Osborn, Kan. a brother Henry Durfey , also of Osborn; 12
grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Roney Funeral Service of Carl Junction and may not be completed at time of this paper.
