Obit: Gertie Ann Watrous, age 86, Joplin, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 2:35 p.m. at The Greenbriar.
Gertie was born January 28, 1922 in Newton County, Missouri, daughter of the late Willis Robert Stockton and Mabel Mae (Ball) Stockton. She attended Diamond Schools, and married Vernie Watrous. They moved to Long Beach, California in 1956. She began her career in the Laundry and Dry Cleaners industry, and owned and operated several locations in California before moving back to Joplin in 1986 at which time she continued to work in the dry cleaning business at the One Hour Cleaners located on east 7th Street.

In addition to her parents, Gertie was preceded in death by her husband in 1970; two children, Victor R. Watrous (Died in infancy), Jackie L.
Watrous (Died in infancy) and three sisters, Edna Mae Stockton (Died in infancy), Esther Edens and Bernice Edens Starnes; one brother, Edward Ray
Stockton (Died in infancy); and a half-brother, Roger Lee Edwards.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Nelson and husband Richard of Osterville, MA; a grandson, Rick Nelson of Osterville; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Friday, March 7, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
