Services for Nola Davis, 79, were held June 19, at palmer Pickering Chapel with the Rev. Dale Hufft officiating. Wilbur Hillme, soloist, was accompanied by Gretchen Brown, organist. Interment was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Escorts were Loran Gregory, Walter Wyant, Clyde and Junior Pendergrass, Durrell and Greg Goodwin. Honorary escorts were Oakly Herring, Bill York, Wallace Earp and Van Sherrer. Nola Cecelia, daughter of William Arthur Moore and Mary Ellen Caldwell Moore, was born October 9, 1906 near Stoutland and died June 16, 1986 at Breech Medical Center. On December 23, 1935 she was married to Ernest Lee Davis, who preceded her in death November 30, 1983. She was also preceded by a son, Harvey Ernest, October 19, 1936, her parents, a sister and two brothers. She professed her faith in Christ early in her life and was member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist church. 1955 Mrs. Ada Drake, 77, of Lebanon and Stoutland died today at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Mervin, Kansas City. Funeral services will be held at the Christian Church in Stoutland, conducted by the Rev. Nathan Copeland of Lebanon. Burial under the direction of Holman Funeral Home will be in the Honey cemetery at Stoutland. Survivors included three daughters: Mrs. Ruth Mervin, Kansas City; Mrs. Mildred Smith, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Mrs Maude Metcalf, Denver, Colo.; two sons, Glen Drake of Lebanon and Clarence Drake of Niles, Mich. Laclede County Record Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon at the Baptist Church in Stoutland for Mott Drake who was fatally injured Thursday, July 27 in a runaway accident near that city. Mr. Drake leaves his wife and 3 sons at the home, a daughter in Dodge City, KS, and a daughter in Kansas City, MO and another in Blue Springs, MO. The Drake family come from Garde (?) City, KS to Camden County less than a year ago and settled on a farm 3 ½ miles from Stoutland. Clarence Mott Drake was born 15 April 1875 at Newfield, NY. When a small child he was taken to western KS where he lived until 1938. He married Ada Williams Jun 28, 1896 (?) Glenn
Allen Drake, son of Clarence Mott “C.M.” and Ada Williams Drake, was
born July 18, 1918, on a farm in Ford County, Kansas. He departed
this life Monday, December 29, 2008, in his home, in Elfindale
Retirement Complex, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of ninety
years, five months, and eleven days.On July 5, 1941, he was united in marriage to Velma Pearl Archer, and to this union two daughters were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clarence and Alfred Drake; and three sisters, Maude Metcalf, Mildred Smith, and Ruth Mervin. Glenn is survived by his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Velma, of the home; two daughters, Glenna Loughmiller, and her husband, Sam, of Merriam, Kansas, and Deanna Gunnett, and her husband, Bob, of Billings, Missouri; three grandchildren, Natalie Thomas, and her husband, Mark, of O’Fallon, Illinois, Barry Allen Loughmiller, and his wife, Jamie, of Satanta, Kansas, and Andrew Drake Robert Gunnett, of Billings, Missouri; a step-grandson, Aaron Gunnett, of Billings, Missouri; two great-granddaughters, Tabitha Thomas and Adrian Loughmiller; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. He was born and raised near Dodge City, Kansas and attended rural elementary school in Ford County. He graduated from Dodge City High School in the Class of 1938. While in high school, he was active in the athletic program, especially in basketball and track, and lettered in both. After graduating from high school, he came with his parents to Missouri, where he met and married, Velma. In October of 1943, he entered the United States Army, receiving his basic training in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Following six months of training in tank maintenance, he was sent to the European Theater with the 3rd Armored Division attached to the First Army. He arrived in Europe at Normandy Beach in June of 1944. He fought with the Army through France and into Germany where he took part in the Battle of the Bulge, repairing tanks on the front lines. He remained in Germany until the end of the war. He was honorably discharged at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, in February of 1946, as a Staff Sergeant. Following his time in the Army, Glenn returned to his home near Lebanon, Missouri, and lovingly helped Velma raise their two daughters. He worked as a mechanic for the Chevrolet Garage until 1967, when he founded and began operating Glenn Drake Garage on South Washington Avenue. He continued in this endeavor until retiring in 1992. Since September of 2005, Glenn and Velma made their home at Elfindale Retirement Complex in Springfield. Glenn professed his faith in Christ and was baptized into membership of the Christian Church in Stoutland, Missouri. He later moved his membership to the First Christian Church of Lebanon, where he had been a member for almost sixty years. He served the church for many years as an Elder, Church Treasurer, and as head usher. Since 1957, Glenn had been involved in Babe Ruth Baseball, serving in capacities from coach to Missouri State Commissioner. Young men from six to eighteen years of age from all across Missouri and other states in the Midwest hold Glenn in high esteem. He was inducted into the Missouri Babe Ruth Hall of Fame in 1988, and the International Babe Ruth Hall of Fame in 1998. The Lebanon Park Board named the Babe Ruth baseball field in Lebanon the Glenn Drake Field in honor of Glenn’s many years of dedicated service to Babe Ruth baseball. In 2003, he was named Champion of Youth and inducted into the Lebanon Area Sports Hall of Fame. His other area of interest in his spare time was in hunting, and
he particularly enjoyed pheasant and quail hunting. His family was
very important to him and he was especially proud of his daughters
and their families. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday January 2, 2009 at the First Christian Church. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday evening 6-8:00 pm at the funeral home under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. Funeral Rites
Thursday Funeral services for Mrs. Drake will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Christian Church in Stoutland, under the direction of the Colonial Funeral Chapel. The body will be taken to Niles, Michigan for a second service and burial. Survivors include her husband Clarence, of Niles, Michigan; two sons, Albert and Arthur, both of Spokane Washington; three daughters, Mrs. Ada May Wilson, Sleeper, Alice Bethurem, Stoutland, and Mrs. Katherine Wogatzke, of Niles, Michigan; one brother, Otis Westerfield of Great Bend, Kansas; five sisters, Mrs. Guy Mitchell, Mrs. Leslie Jones, Mrs. Minnie Burdue, Mrs. Grace Williams and Mrs. Charles Buck, all of Niles. Dale Edgar Dowden, son of Clyde and Ida Royster Dowden, was born
January 22, 1944, near Competition, Missouri. He departed this life
Wednesday, April 13, 2005, in Cox Medical Center South, in
Springfield, Missouri, at the age of sixty-one years, two months,
and twenty-one days. On June 8, 1968, he was united in marriage to Opal Arlene Sien, and together they shared the last thirty-six years. He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, Randy Lee Plummer; and two sisters, Merle McElfresh, and Georgia Tuck. Dale is survived by his wife, Opal, of the home; three daughters, Nancy A. Hamilton, of Lebanon, Missouri, Christina K. Wagner, and her husband, Kendle, of Minnetonka, Minnesota, and Rachel D. Dowden, and her fiancé, Todd O’Donald, of Lebanon, Missouri; three sons, David A. Dowden, and his fiancée, Renay Capp, Ricky D. Dowden, and his wife, Angel, and Waylon J. Dowden, all of Lebanon, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five brothers, Euland Dowden, of Roseburg, Oregon, Vernon Dowden, of Bolivar, Missouri, Stanley and Joe Dowden, both of Lebanon, Missouri, and Junior Dowden, of Falcon, Missouri; five sisters, Valice Lowery, Rosalee Scott, and Kay Medley, all of Lebanon, Missouri, Maxine Todd, of Manes, Missouri, and Carlene McDaniel, of Ozark, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Competition, Missouri area. After he and Opal were married, they made their home in the Lebanon community and lovingly raised their family. For sixteen years, Dale was employed by True Gun, and then for twelve years he worked for Carmeco, Inc. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army National Guard for over twelve years. Dale had established his own personal relationship with his Lord and Savior and had attended a Baptist church. He liked being outdoors where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and floating on the river. He enjoyed listening to country/western and gospel music, and Johnny Cash was his favorite country singer. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Dale was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he created for his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2005, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Rose Memorial Park. Services for Ida Catherine Dowden were held Monday, January 11, 1993 at Colonial Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Curtis Wilson officiating. Music was by Wilbur Hillme, soloist, and Delores Shadel, organist. Selections were “I Won’t Have to Cross Jordon Alone” and “Beyond the Sunset.” Burial was in the Mt. Carney cemetery, under the direction of Colonial Funeral Chapels. Escorts were Hershel McElfresh, David Dowden, Timothy Dowden, Donald Lowery, Rick Cook and Royce Tuck. Ida Catherine Dowden, daughter of William Wallace Royster and Susan Ellen McClanahan Royster, was born February 2, 1901 in Wright County, near Competition, Missouri and departed this life January 9, 1993 in Lebanon, Missouri. On November 23, 1918 she was united in marriage with Clarence Newton Caudle and to this union were born two daughters, Neva (deceased) and Valice. Her husband preceded her in death October 1, 1920. On June 19, 1924 she was married to Clyde Joseph Dowden and to this union were born twelve children. Mr. Dowden preceded her in death October 1, 1967. Many years ago, Ida professed her faith in Christ and united with Cheerful Hill Church in Wright County. She is survived by six sons, Eulan, of Roseburg, Oregon, and Vernon, Stanley, Clyde, Joe and Dale, all of Lebanon; seven daughters, Valice Lowery of Lebanon, Merle McElfresh, of Duke, Missouri, Maxine Todd, of Manes, Missouri, Carlene McDaniel, of Moberly , Missouri, Norma Medley, of Rosedale, Georgia, Rosalie Scott and Georgia Tuck, both of Lebanon; one step-daughter, Ruby Scott of Springfield, Missouri; two sisters, Lina Fulks, of Lebanon and Opal Prock, of Phoenix, Arizona; thirty-eight grandchildren, seventy-three great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren, also several step-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Everett, Vergil, Cecil, and Ira Royster; four step-children, Bill Dowden, Ethel Royster, Treva Lee, and Pearl Web; one grandson, Darel Lowery; and one great-grandson, Jason O.
