Hannah Raney, an old and respected lady residing at Briscoe, died Monday, Jan. 7, and was buried the following day at the - - graveyard about two miles east of Briscoe. She was born in Monroe, Co. Va., Jan 3, 1827, and her age at the time of her death was 80 years and 4 days. She was converted and joined the M.E. church about 38 or 40 years ago. She leaves 10 children-6 sons and 4 daughters. Aunt Hannah, as she was called, lived a consistent Christian life, and her faith in God was strong, and with Paul could say, “For me to live is Christ, but to die is gain”.

Raney, Jonah M. dated September 4, 1942
Jonah M. Raney, almost 81 years old, died Sat. evening, august 29, at Granite City, Ill. hospital where he had been a patient for some weeks. Uncle Jonah was born near Briscoe and spent the greater part of his life in that community. He is survived by 2 daughters and 1 son namely: Marie xxx Mrs. James Smith and husband and their daughter Clementine, Lottie, now Mrs. Robert Howerton and her husband; the son Pryor Raney and wife all of Granite City. Besides the above he leaves 2 sisters, Miss Alice and Miss Belle Raney of Briscoe and 1 brother H.B. (Dump) Raney of St. Louis, and a number of nephews and nieces and other relations, and a host of friends to miss all who loved him.
Six of his nephews serving as pall bearers were: Alton Barnes, Clem and Hubert Raney, Ted Taylor of Troy and J.Z. Raney of Silex. Funeral services held at Meth. Church at Old Alex. Monday p.m., Aug 31, were conducted by his pastor from Granite City, with burial in adjoining cemetery beside his wife, the former Magdaline Hines who preceded him in death October 1895.

J.S. Raney, son of Felix and Hannah Raney, was born near Old Alexandria, Lincoln county, Mo., Sept. 8, 1847.
He lived in that community until the time of his marriage to Kitty F. Zumwalt Jan. 31, 1872, when he moved to the farm on which the town of Davis, Mo., is now located. Here until the time of his death, June 20, 1930, a period of 58 years, he was well known and highly respected as a loyal citizen, a good neighbor, and a Christian gentleman. His wife preceded him to the heavenly home Feb. 12, 1920.
Six children were born into the home. Four died in infancy, leaving Florence, the wife of Rev. R.I. Connelly, who also went on . . . . . before her father June 3, 1927…mere remains of his immediate family only J.Z. Raney of Silex, Mo.
Besides this sole survivor there are four grand-sons, Dr. C. C. Connelly of St. Louis, Earl Raney of Troy, Glen and Paul Raney of St. Louis, one great grandson, three brothers, three sisters, many more distant relatives, and a host of neighbors and friends that remain to await the summons to join him in the home where sickness, sorrow, and death shall never come.

J. Z. Raney, only son of J. L. & Kitty Zumwalt Raney was B. Dec 16, 1877 at Davis, Mo. He deceased Oct 18, 1945 at Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. attaining the age of 67 yrs, 10 mo. 2 ds. He united in marriage with Ester Cannon April 24, 1904. To this union 3 sons were born, Earl of Troy, deceased March 28, 1943; Glenn and Paul both of whom are in the U.S. Armed Forces in Europe. Esther or Essie as she was familiarly known departed this life January 20, 1918.
November 16, 1930 Z. Raney married Annie Elizabeth Bahm (bohm) who died January 15, 1940 and to this union was 1 child born Jay Zee at home. He leaves 3 sons, 3 daughter-in-laws, 6 sister-in laws, 1 nephew Cecil Connelly, 2 Aunts Alice and Belle Raney, father-in-law, mother-in-law and friends.

Raney, Myrtle Price July 26, 1946
Myrtle Price Raney was the eldest child of the late Felix Samuel Raney and Laura Price Raney of this community, where she spend most of her life, until the last several years, when she had made her home in Troy the great part of the time. Myrtle has had the great blessings of perfect health all though her life, until about 1 year ago, when her health began to fail, and continued to, until in Dec. when she became seriously ill. In Jan. she entered Pike Co. Hospital., at Louisiana, where she remained a month for treatment, and when she returned home from the hospital in Feb., she was cared for by her sister, this writer, all through her illness, which was very serious for several weeks after her return home. When she began to improve, then each day, gave the family encouragement, for she improved rapidly in many ways, but she knew she had that dreaded ailment, failure of heart, and on Sat. a.m., June 15, 1946, she was suddenly called from us, to that everlasting rest.
She leaves 1 sister, Laura Gracie, one brother, Oscar F. Raney, 1 sis-in--law, Maude V. Raney and 1 nephew and his wife Jewell and Elsie Raney, 1 g-grand niece, Ellen Van Raney and 2 dear Aunts Alice and Belle Raney.
