Trail of Tears

In 1838 and 1839 the Trail of Tears passed through Madison County near what is now known as Cherokee Pass.

 

There were about 2,000 indians in the division.  Other divisions had traveled thru Farmington on their journey, but due to bad road conditions, this division made their way along Fredericktown Road.   

 

Divisions that followed in the early part of 1839 also passed thru Fredericktown.
