BUFORD B. MORGAN

Couch, MO--BUFORD B. MORGAN, son of the late
Jeff Loyd Morgan and Anna Deilila Rievley Morgan was born April 24, 1914, in
Chaonia, MO and died June 23, 1998 in Memphis, TN at the age of 84 years,
one month and 29 days.
Mr. Morgan was united in marriage to Dorothea
Jones, who preceded him in death. He was united in marriage July 5, 1969 in
Doniphan, MO to Patricia Parker.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Couch,
MO; two step-children, Eric Lloyd of New Melle, MO and Melinda Goins of
Overland Park, KS; three step-grandchildren, Paden, Clayton and Trevor; one
brother, Chester Morgan of Chaffee, MO; two sisters, Beulah Sutterfield of
Farmington, MO and Violet Stebler of Chaffee, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his
wife, Dorothea.
Mr. Morgan was a graduate of Chaffee, MO High
School, graduating as Valedictorian with the Class of 1934. In 1937 he was
hired as trainman on the River Division of the Frisco and worked for several
other railroads, including the Southern Pacific and Rio Grande Division.
He was a veteran of World War II. He was a
Staff Sergeant and Yard Master in the 730th Railway Operation Battalion
supplying the southern Russian Front. His decorations included the Legion
of Merit, Legionnaire class and the Russian Victory Medal.
He established the Narrows Aquatic Farm in
eastern Oregon County, shipping plants to Canada as well as over the United
States.
He became interested in preserving Missouri's
streams and co-authored, along with Lewis Lindley, the first draft of the
Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. He was named Water Conservationist of 1967 by
Sears Roebuck and the Conservation Federation.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of
Doniphan, MO and was a Mason.
Funeral services for Buford B. Morgan of Couch
were held Friday, June 26, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. at the Carter Funeral Home
Chapel, Thayer, MO with Reverend Roger Smith officiating. Interment was in
the Thayer Cemetery, under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
