MILES MCBRYAN MEALES

     Services for Miles McBryan Meales were held Sept. 11 at the Church of the Nazarene in Caruthersville with the Rev. Harold Thompson and the Rev. Paul Daubaub officiating.  Mr. Meales died in Hayti on Sept. 9, 1981,  at the age of 80.  He was the husband of Mrs. Mattie Mae Meales of Caruthersville.  Mr. Meales was born in Henderson, Tenn., on Aug. 20, 1901, to the late Albert Sidney and Nancy Lillie (James) Meales.  He attended schools in Henderson and married his wife, the former Mattie Lee Byrd,  there in 1920.  After living in Lexington, Ky., the Meales moved to Caruthersville in 1931.  Before his retirement, Mr. Meales was a watchman at Brown Shoe.  Surviving are is wife; five sons, Thomas of Michigan City, Ind., Hershel of Milan, Tenn., Jessie (Doug) of Caruthersville, and Hubert (Pete) of Caruthersville; a daughter, Mrs. Hazel Laverne Reno of Caruthersville;  two brothers, Bill and Basil of Lexington; five sisters, Mrs. Mae Springer of Memphis, Mrs. Annie Tate of Bernie, Mrs. Hester Herron of Steele, and Mrs. Willie Barr and
Mrs. Bea Coffman of Lexington; and 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.   Pallbearers were Ed Adams, Earl Curtis, Roy Gill, J.C. Goodman,  Levi Woods, and Neal Quinn.   Interment was in the Maple cemetery with the H.S.
Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville in charge.

MATTIE LEE MEALES

     Mrs. Mattie Lee Meales, 87, of Caruthersville, died June 13, 1990 at City of Milan Hospital in Milan, Tenn.  Born Feb. 9, 1903 in Perry County, Tenn., she was the daughter of Lance and Nora Craig Byrd.  She attended shcools in Tennessee and was a member of Church of the Nazarene in Caruthersville.  She was a widow of Miles McBryan Meales.  She is survived by five sons, Tom Meales of Michigan City, Ind., Hershel Meales of Milan, Jessie "Doug" and Pete Meales, both of Caruthersville, and A.T. "Buddy" Meales of San Antonio; one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Graham of Caruthersville; one brother, George T. Byrd of Jackson, Tenn; sixteen grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.  Services were June 16 at 10 a.m. at Church of the Nazarene, the Rev. Elmer Brunton officiating, with burial in Maple Cemetery, H.S.  Smith Funeral Home in charge.  Pallbearers were Glen, Jeff, Gary and Troy Meales and Albert and James Graham.
