HEAD SCHOOL

Scott County Missouri Genealogy Trails

The HEAD SCHOOL, a one-room school, was established in 1858 and closed in 1940.  It was located on a farm east of Scott City until 2003, when the owners of the land donated the building to the Scott City Historic Preservation Commission.  The commission worked to restore the schoolhouse to its original condition.  It was placed near the railroad tracks in the Illmo section of Scott City.  The building was a wood structure.  It was destroyed by fire on Tuesday, April 29, 2008.
