Preston Asa was baptized and confirmed a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 17 August 1867 at Wayne County, Illinois, by M. H. Forscutt. He was ordained a teacher on 24 May 1868 in Wayne County by I. A. Morris and G. H. Hilliard. Preston attended the Illinois branches at Deer Creek and Dry Fork.
