Is situated in the north northeast part of the
State, separated from the Iowa State line by Putnam county. The
principal portion of the county is prairie, with an abundance of
timber for all practical purposes. The soil is fertile and
adapted to all purposes of agriculture, horticulture and stock raising.The
county is well watered, some of the streams affording water power. Stone
coal is abundant, throughout the county. Population 1860, 9,235.
