Funeral Rites to Be Thursday Afternoon Mrs. Effie May Ray, 60, wife of Jesse F. Ray, died at her home 1537 N. Jefferson, Tuesday after noon, following a short illness.
She was born Feb. 16, 1885, in Putnam county, Mo., and had been a resident of Mason City for the past 19 years. Surviving are her husband, 2 sons, Floyd and
Emmet Phipps, Marshalltown; 3 daughters, Bonnie Bonner, Mrs. Leola Kahler, and Mrs. Blanche Rodgers. all of Mason City; a sister, Mrs. Thomas Pottoroff, and 2
brothers, H. G. Branstetter and Jesse Branstetter, Green City, Mo. Five grandchildren, Betty Jane Reece and Shirley Jean Sims, San Diego, Cal, and Dorothy Ellen,
Helen and Harry Emmet Phipps, Marshalltown, and 2 nieces, Mrs. Clyde Watson and Mrs. Glen Thornton, Jr., and 3 nephews, Michael Dennis Thornton, Harry Glen
Thornton and Harold Ray, all of Mason City, also survive. Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Dorisada Phipps, a sister, Maude Mills, and a
brother, Glen Branstetter. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p. m. Thursday at the Patterson funeral home, with the Rev. Wilbur F. Dierking, pastor of the
First Presbyterian church, officiating. A service also will be held at Green City, Mo., on Friday. Burial will be at Green Castle cemetery. The Patterson funeral home in charge.

Jesse Ray rites held in Missouri
Funeral services for Jesse F. Ray, 80, former Mason City man who died Tuesday at Greentop, Mo., were held Friday afternoon at the Green Castle Methodist Church,
Mr. Ray was a retired employee of the Northwestern States Portland Cement Co. He was born in Scotland County, near Memphis. Oct. 3, 1880, son of Asa and
Mary E. (Waymack) Ray.
He was married to Clara Bellas in December 1900. She died in 1914. In 1920 he was married to Effie Phipps, who died in January 1946.
Surviving are an adopted daughter. Mrs. Carl (Opal) Greenstreet, Greentop; & niece Mrs. Leon (Wilda Ruth) Patterson, Moline, Ill.; who was reared in his home;
two brothers, Roy Ray, Kahoka Mo.; and 0. L. Ray, Green Castle; three sisters, Myrtle Dickenson, Eldora; Golda Sny der, Mason City; and Hazel Downen, Novinger, Mo.,
11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by three brothers.

Jessie Forrest O. Ray, 82, of 203 North Main Street. Albion, died Saturday, March 31, at his home.
Following cremation at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory, memorial services
will be held Tuesday, April 3, at Fellowship Baptist Church, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Edwin Hannahs, officiating. There are no visiting hours scheduled. Private family
burial will take place at a later date. A memorial fund has been established to Iowa River Hospice or the Jessie Ray Memorial Fund.
Jessie was born September 16, 1918 in Greencastle. Mo., the son of Ople L. and Inez L. (Phipps) Ray. The family moved a bit during his childhood. He was raised and
educated in Eldora, and La Rae, Miss. He was married to Ruby V. Miller on December 11, 1939 in Unionville, Mo. They made their home of 55 years on 2431 Sand Road. He was an Army veteran of World War II, enlisting from October 1944 to November 1945. He was awarded the Bronze Star during his tour of duty.
Jessie is survived by daughters Doris (Mrs. Steve) Toensfeldt, of Park Rapids, Minn., DiAnn (Mrs. Harley) Murra of Marshalltown. Sue (Mrs. David) Schmidt, of LeGrand,
Patsy Ray of Albion, Leila "Lucy" (Mrs. Rick) Davis of Albion, son Earl "Buster" (Carol) Ray Sr. of Albion, sister. Wilda (Pat) Patterson of Milan, Ill., brother-in-law.
Dale Miller of Albion 23 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren. He was a loving and giving father.
Jessie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruby on December 23, 1988. his brother Harold, his sister Helena Douglas, his daughter Lynda Vedbraaten,
a granddaughter and a great-grandson.

DAVID J. ROADES, 71, DIES AT HUMPHREYS
David J. Roades, 71, died at his home in Humphreys at 9:30 Sunday night
after an illness of three years.
He was born Oct. 6, 1870 in cherry Valley, NY, the son of Jesse and
Elizabeth Jackson Roades, who were born in England.
He came to Missouri with his parents when a youth and assisted his father in
a meat market in Humphreys.
He was married Oct. 11, 1896 to Bertha Clark, who survives. Besides his
wife, he is survived by four daughters and two sons,
Mrs. Clara Vanderpool, Mrs. Mary Snapp, Harold and Gene Roades, all of
California; Mrs. Dorothy Watts of Long Island, NY, and Mrs. Nellie Norvell
of Kansas City.
One son, Sammie, preceded him in death about 10 years ago.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; one
brother, A. M. Roades of St. Joseph; and two sisters,
Mrs. Lillie Constant of Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. Rose Townsman of Indiana.
