\Sylvania Neal
Sylvania (Vania) Turner Neal

James Milton Neal was born 1825 in Tennessee according to the only 2 census records I have found listing James.
James married Vania Turner April 8, 1846 in Knox County, Tennessee.
Sylvania (Vania) Turner was the daughter of John & Vany (Hopper) Turner.
James & Vania left Tennessee and arrived in Texas County, Missouri 1857.

James purchased land at the land office in Springfield, Missouri
October 1, 1860 location Turley, Texas County, Missouri

Location: SWNE
Sec. Block: 27/
Township: 32-N
Range:11-W
State: MO County: Texas

They made their home in Turley, Texas County, Missouri, until the Civil War began and James left never to return. Vania was left to raise the children
alone here in Texas County. Her sister Sarah Fielden was here also.

I believe James mother to be Jemima Harker Neal from other researchers and research done by the Fielden family. His father has never been discovered. His mother married 2nd to James Fielden August 1st 1831 in Jefferson County, Tennessee.
Three other children were born to this union. John W.Fielden, Mary Fielden and Benjamin Ai Fielden.
After James Fielden died Jemima married 3rd to John Hodges in Jefferson County, Tennessee July 30, 1846.
Jemima used her maiden name Harker as her first name sometimes.

We know the Fielden’s also moved to Texas County, Missouri from Tennessee when James and Vania moved to Missouri 1859.

Sylvania (Vania) Turner Neal’s sister Sarah Turner was married to Dempsey Fielden who was a relative of James Fielden.
From older ancestors the Neal and Fielden’s were a very close nit family.

The earliest record I have of James Milton is a church record from Mill Springs Baptist Church in Jefferson County, Tennessee.
His mother was listed also as Harker Fielden.

(probably Freeman’s Calvary) and when he was exchanged he enlisted in the
10th Mo. Inf.

and Guerrillas written by Joanne Chiles Eakin 1995.

James is listed as James M. Neal Guerrilla Steins Reg. Texas County, Missouri imprisoned February 9, 1863 and listed as being sent to City Point, Virginia.
James never returned home again. We will never know what happened to him. Some of the descendents said Vania walked to Rolla from Turley in search of her
husband James.
