Louis C. Schwartz was born in the vicinity of Bernheimer, March 23, 1879 and died at the Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis, April 28, 1935
having reached the age of 56 years, 1 month and 5 days.
His entire life was spent in the home community. He was reared in a Christian home. At the age of 14 on April 3, 1893 he completed his course in religious instruction and Rev. J.M. Rhde was received him into membership of the Smith Creek Methodist Church.
On February 27, 1908 he was united in marriage with Emma Wehmeyer of the same community. They went into housekeeping on the farm which has been their home ever since. Into this home five children were born.
Mr. Schwartz was thrifty, industrious farmer. In the home he was a good husband and father. In the neighborhood he was known for his willingness and dependability. In the church he was ever faithful and loyal. With devoutness he served his Lord and Savior. When the earthly existence of his life drew to a close he met the end with peace and assurance.
Until a year or so ago he continually enjoyed the best of health. No one would have suspected that the fateful disease was then at hand. He complained of his health and began going to a physician. But his condition gradually grew worse. A few weeks ago he was confined to his bed. The pain and suffering grew intense. Nearly two weeks ago it was found necessary to rush him to a hospital, where an operation was performed. But on Sunday night at 12 o'clock his Master came to release him from his suffering and take him to his heavenly home.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife: five children, Clarence, Gilbert, Victor, Helen and Virginia; his aged mother, who now lives at New Franklin; three brothers, Fritz of New Franklin; John of Menlo, Iowa, and Paul of Boone, Iowa; three sisters, Mrs. Gus Howelmann of Jefferson City, Mrs. Elda Howelmann of New Franklin and Mrs. Clara Brown of Stuart, Iowa, besides many other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Smith Creek Methodist Church, the pastor having charge of the services. "Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted", was the text of the sermon. Accompanied by Mrs. Wesley Dothage, a quartet, consisting of Edna and Orlando Brakemeyer, Mrs. Opal Morhaus and Eldon Haeuser, sang three appropriate songs. "Face to Face," "It is Well," and "Asleep in Jesus". Interment was made in the church cemetery. Louis C. Schwartz and Emma Bertha Wehmeyer (Schwartz) were married on 27 Feb 1908 in Smith Methodist Church, Warren County, Missouri.
