SCHOER ATKINS, Lucile, Mo. to Bozeman, Hardin 1909, moved to CrowCounty. Great stories.

BAILEY, H.V. and Lillian.,store manager at Crow, 1903-04, owned store at Wyola, it burned in 1920.

BAIR, Charles M and Mary JACOBS, 1890, worked for the Northern Pacfic RR, agent for Crows,1902-1910.

BAKER, Ted and Irene, her parents are Walter STANDISH, 1926 (1948 crickets ate grass, had to sell cattle for $20.- a head.

GROSS , BAKER, Hazel. her father Erle M. Baker, lived in Toluca,1925, Wyola, parents moved to Seattle. WW1.

BALDWIN, Les, cowboy, worked over in Sarpy Creek, Tulloch Creek and the Reservation Creek in the WolfMountains. Lots of information on area ranches and cattle.

COLONEL BARON, Tony, born in Wash.D.C. 1850, to Black Hills gold mines, 7th Cavalary Ft. Meade, Dakota Territory, discharged 1884. Hardin 1913, 1928 CA. Went back to Mt. to head the Indian War Veterans at the 60th anniversary. Died Nov. 1942 at the age of 92.

BATTY, Hannah and Lucy. Two sisters fromBlair, NE, homesteaded near Pine Ridge, MT.Hannah was the rancher, Lucy, the teacher and the second CountySuperintendent of Schools of BHC.

BEALL, Sherm A. and wife came to MT. from IA in 1914 to Carbon County, 1915 to BHC.
10 children.
 

BEARSS, Edwin. Wife, Margie RIDDLE in MS. C. father Omar E. BEARSS and wife Virginia MORSE. Moved to Sarpy in 1920. Bought ranch from from Cranfords. Chilren Ed and Pat. Information about Ed and the connection to the Civil War.

BECKER, Anton moved to Hardin when lots were for sale in 1908. He built the first brick building, also the Becker Hotel. Lots of family information.

BENTLEY, Chester A. and wife. They were both ministers. Hardin from 19230-1959 they were appointees of the American Baptist Home Mission Society in Crow Agency. Both were born in Massachusetts. There were 4 children. 

BENZEL, JR, Fred and Hilda SCHAFER, early 1900’s; farmed 160 acres in North Valley, four pictures. Great descriptions of life on the farm in 1900- 1975.

BLACK, Arthur, cowboy (from VA.)worked at Frank Heinrich’s, Antler ranch, Spear ranch. Great stories.

BLANKENSHIP, Thomas, b. 1906,cowboy, married Lillian HELLER later married Martha PHILLIPS from WestVA. “BEST CATCH I ever made even if she is related to the Hatfields and McCoys on both sides!!! Broke horses at Ft.Laramie for Latta Bros. Came to MT. in 1928 and worked for the Antler and Krones. Worst winter ever, at Forks of Woody line camp, 2000 out of 3000 cattle killed. I worked for $35.- a month. Best cattle county is the “Crow.”
Colorful history.

BOGGESS, Edmonia H. and son Eugene Huhes came to MT. in 1915. visited in Crow, Lame Deer, visited Colstrip, taught at SandCreekSchool and the SarpySchool near the Frank Clark Ranch. There is a lot of genealogical history here.

BOWERS, HARVEY (b. Ohio1877) and Bessie McCLURG (b.IA, 1881) Lived in Belfry MT.1907 and Hardin, 1914. Seven children. Harvey d. 1948 and Bessie 1956.

BOWMAN, Carl, came in 1907 from NE. where he found a few people living in tents. Rode the Two- Leggin Canal for years. Later a Postmaster, worked in the bank for 27 years and then became a bee keeper.

BOWMAN, BILL and wife. Married 1925, Sheridan, WY. Worked for Spear Brothers Cattle Company on the reservation until 1938 when they became caretakers for the Plenty Coups home outside of Pryor. She worked at saving artifacts and making a one room museum.He was also a rancher. Retired in 1970 and live in Edgar.

BOYD, Johnston Robertson, (Joe) and wife Cecile PHILLIPS. Joe- b. in Glasgow, Scotland 1886. Immigrated in 1888 to Johnston, PA. Survived ‘THE FLOOD” wrapped in the American Flag in the steeple of the Episcopal Church. MilitarySchool ,came to Sheridan, WY. 1905, worked at Kendrick ranch, broke horses. Partnership with Buck Smith. They became such good trappers and expert marksmen they were allowed to hunt on the Crow Reservation without a permit. He bought land, 1910, on the reservation which had to be approved by the Dept. of Interior and signed off by the President of the U. S. Joe served in the 29th Legislature of MT. as Senator from BHC, Jan. 1945. They had two children. He was a cattle rancher.

BREKKE, Mabel, Deputy Clerk of Court House, and Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star.

BRENNAN, Pat: Son of Thomas and Hattie Grennan. b. 1901, sisters, Viola and Agnes and two brothers, Earl and John. He married Evelyn Dyckman in 1925, quit the RR and moved to the Dyckman ranch at Sarpy to raise hay and cattle. They ran their catton on the WolfMountains.

BROWN, HARRIETT CRISWELL, b. 1917, married Murry J. BROWN, Jr. of Lodge Grass.There is alot of genealogy in this clipping.

BROWN, Nellie V. came to Hardin 1910 with her father. taught school, and first CountySuperintendent of Schools in 1923, serving three terms. Moved to CA. and d. 1972.

BUCKINGHAM, J.C. he freighted with a wagon team betwen Fort Kearney and Fort Custer, MT. All products were moved in this fashion. He operated a saw mill near Eatons Dude Ranch
In 1910 with his wfe Mary and their six children came to Lodge Grass. He had a contract withthe governament to repair, paint and fix the buggies of the Indian people, shoe horses. Family was very active in the town.

BUCKINGHAM, Earl M. married Ellen DAY IL. had one son. Came to Hardin in 1912, well 
graduated from MontanaState College in 1923. Many interesting occupations.

BUCKINGHAM, Joseph Thomas, D.D. born 1867, CornwallEngland. Wife, Grace MOWBRAY of Geneseo, IL. Came to MT. in 1876, the year Custer was killed, Practiced dentistry in Hardin from 1912-1919, first dentist in Hardin, office was over Reeder”s Drug Store and in the SullivanBuilding. One son.

BUCKLEY, Phil and Helen HOBBS, came with parents 1918. one son. Lived on a homestead on “Hanging Woman Creek. First home was 12x14 shack, unlined with cracks in the floor where mice could enter, set a trap for a mouse and caught a rattlesnake!

BULLIS, Everett and Beatrice, Everett b. 1923 in Hardin, son of John W. Bullis. He grew up in Hardin, many interesting stories.

BULLIS, JOHN, B. 1881, IA. son of William Therman BULLIS. Married Jucilla Stinard in NE. They came to Hardin 1914, owned the Package Grocery on the corner of Third St. and Custer Ave. There were few houses or businesses in Hardin when the BULLIS’S first came. The streets were dirt and mud . They had 3 children.

BURGESS, Reverend James G. and wife. He was born and reared in England. They were sent by the Congregrational Protestant Missionaries to the Reservation at 1894, the first Protestant missionaries on the Reservation. Mrs. Burgess said one reason the Crows liked the Reverend was that he treated them with respect--he never entered a teepee without first knocking on the outside and receiving permission to enter. They had three children

BUTLER, Charley and two daughter. Came to Hardin in 1911. Worked at the Alfalfa mill until it burned down. They were farmers. Great descriptions of downtown.

BACHELDER- Fred S was b. in Vermont, wife Mary E. CASEY in NJ. b. Daughter 1894.
Good descriptions of general Indian land between Bridger and Fromberg.
