Daniel Arthur Winkler was born April 20, 1931, and was the adopted son of Arthur Max Winkler and Clara (Cinek) Winkler.
Dan proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps Since 1990 the Black Hills have been home to Dan. He enjoyed spirited discussions, reading, fishing, woodworking, family gatherings, pets, fair play and humor.
Dan, of Hill City/Custer, S.D., died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at his home surrounded by loving family. He was 75.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Hill City/Custer; five children, Ed (Julie) Winkler of Custer; Pamela Ishii of Omaha, Neb; Judith Robison of Hill City, Dawn (Chris) Froning of Omaha, Kristine Froning Duvall of Custer; brother-in-law, Bob (Terri) Craig of Hill City/Custer; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
An informal gathering of family and friends was held March 3 at the Super 8 meeting room in Hill City.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the the Salvation Army. Written condolences can be made at www.mccolleyschapels.com.
