County seat is Glendive, established in Jan. 15, 1869. The other towns are Richey and West Glendive.

 Adjacent Counties: Northeast: Richland County, Southwest: Prairie, Southeast:Wibaux County, Northwest: McCone County

 The Custer Vacation Guide states that Glendive is centered between Fargo, and Yellowstone National Park. Gledive is able to offer a wealth of history, including dinosaur digs, Historic District tours and the Frontier Gateway Museum.

The Glendive Ranger-Review is a twice weekly  newspaper serving Dawson County, Montana, which is home to Makoshika State Park.  We have over 7,000 readers with a circulation of 3,224 and publish Sunday and  Thursday, offering local news in Glendive, Richey, Lindsay,   Bloomfield and the  surrounding areas.

ORGANIZATION

The Dawson County Adult Detention /  Correction Facility is operated under the authority of the Dawson County  Sheriff. The facility houses both the county jail, and a regional prison  contracted to the Montana Department of Corrections. The Facility Administrator  directly supervises the operation of both the prison and the jail.
