The county was named for James Fergus, territorial legislator who helped promote the establishment of Yellowstone National Park Fergus County is one of 56 counties in Montana. The estimated population in 2004 was 11,539. Fergus County is a county located in the U.S. state of Montana. As of 2000, the population is 11,893.
