Remarks: In August mr. Everts left here to go to explore the head of the yellow stone river, in company with some twenty or thirty citizens. The expedition was under command of Surveyor General Washburn. I was absent in Virginia City at the Supreme Court, at the time Mr. Everts left and toke his returnes a I found them. On the 9th September, near the yellow stone lake Mr. Evverts failed to come into camp at night. the party remained and searched for him eight days but could find no trace of him. A reward has been offered and a party of mountaineers have gone to try to ascertain his fate. Please send the draft for his pay to my case and I will deposit it in the bank rented as administrator is appointed or his daughter (who has been sent for) arrives from Ohio. Wm. F. Wheeler.
