Pioneer Couple Honored on 50th Anniversary

Mr. And Mrs. James C. Phillips, Sr. celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary with open house at their home, 2113 Bullard St. in Miles City on October 21.

Serving the wedding cake was a niece of the couple, Mrs. Walter (Dorothy) Tadsen of Forsyth. Serving the coffee was a daughter, Mrs. Louis (Marie) Kerr of Bowman, N.D. Another daughter, Mrs. Vernon (Etelma) Drung of Ashland, Oregon was in charge of the guest book. A daughter-in-law, Mrs. Harry (Clara) Phillips of Yakima, Washington, was in charge of the gift table. Presiding at the punch bowl was Mrs. Mabel Cotton of Miles City. Assisting the above were another daughter-in-law, Mrs. Gerald (Lee) Phillips of Brandenberg. Mrs. Slim Morgan and Roxanne Baldwin, of Forsyth and Mrs. Tillie Whitcher of Miles City.

In addition to Mrs. Kerr and Mrs. Drung, the honored couple has another daughter, Mrs. Janie Plumlee of Porland Oregon, and five sons. Joseph R. and William B. of Forsyth, Harry C. of Yakima, Washington, James C. Jr. of Ashland and Gerald J. of Brandedberg.

Mr. And Mrs. Phillips are pioneers of the community, Mr. Phillips having come to Mile City from Texas with a shipment of cattle on June 9, 1904, at the age of 18. Shortly thereafter he entered the employ of the Lazy Jay Cattle Co. at Jordan. He moved back to Miles City on 1907. He was united in marriage with Lillian Edith Goodale at Forsyth on October 21, 1912. Mrs. Phillips is the daughter of another pioneer family, the Late Henry C. Goodale of the Brandenberg community.
