Laura S. Phillips died on Sunday March 8, in her home at the age of 83.
She was born the daughter of John and Katherine Hoffman in Medelia, Minn., on
June 2, 1897. She came to Rosebud County in 1911 with her parents to the Rosebud
Creek. After her marriage to Herbert Jellison in 1917 they settled on a
homestead on the upper Rosebud Creek.

She came to Forsyth in 1935 and has been here since.
She married Joe Phillips on May 1, 1943 in Forsyth.

For many years, Laura has been working as the Joseph Hotel manager. She was very
active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary, serving both
organizations as past president and as district past president. She was also a
member of the Eight and Forty of Miles City, Rosebud County Pioneers and the
Episcopal Church in Forsyth.

Laura is survived by four sons, Harold Jellison of Roseburg, Ore., Clayton
Jellison of Billings, James Jellison of Springfield. Va., and Donald Gene
Jellison of Lathrop, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. LaBerta Kelly of Madera, Calif.,
and Mrs. Edith Scott of Tacoma, 20 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and
1 great-great grandchild.; two sisters, Mrs. Viola E. Carlson of Stockton, Calif.
 and Mrs. Doris Woodward of San Adreas, Calif.

The Rev. Charles Mitchell of Ascension Episcopal Church will officiate at the
funeral on Friday at 10 a.m. in Beals Mortuary Chapel. Dr. John Forsberg will
sing The Old Rugged Cross and In the Garden accompanied by Mariellen Lee.
Pallbearers will include Charles Harris, Ben Berdahl, Bob Martinek, Alfed Coate,
Jim Kuckler and Butch Riley. Interment will be in the Forsyth Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the VFW Auxiliary Cancer Aid and Research fund

Joseph R. Phillips was 67 when he died December 1 in the Veterans Administration 
Hospital in Bonham, Texas.He was born Sept. 21, 1913 in Rosebud, son of James and
Lillian Phillips.  After spending
his youth in the Ashland and Broadus area, he served in the Army during World War II
 until 1945 when he returned to Rosebud County where he ranched and worked at
Costrip.
He later operated the City Cafe and the Tastee Freeze drive-in in Forsyth until 1972
when he moved to Powell Wyo. and later retired and moved to Gordonville, Texas in
1979.married Alice Horsman on June 13, 1962.
He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts of Forsyth
and the Eagles Lodge of Powell, Wyo.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Denise Kay at home and Mrs. Edith Scott of
Tacoma, Wash.; two sons, James of Springfield, Va., and Donald G. of Lathroy, Calif.;
 also two stepsons, Jerry Calflisch of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Rodney Baldwin of
 Renton Wash.; two step-daughters, Roxanne Gilge and Beverly Boschee, both of
Forsyth; three brothers, Harry of Spokane, Wash., James Gerald of Ashland;
two sisters, Mrs. Ethelma Drung of Medford, Ore., and Janie Swank of The Dalles, Ore.;
 21 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

The Rev. Cecil Eanes of the Federated Church will officiate at the services ,
Dec. 6 at 10:30 a.m. in Beals Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Rick Griffin will sing “Beyond
the Sunset” and “How Great thou Art” He will be accompanied by Rita Martens. Pallbearers
 will be Hermie Harkin, Glen Blakesley, Stan Edgell, Art Polich, Robert Martinek,
 and Joe Vassau. Interment will be in Forsyth Cemetery with Military honors.

Pioneer Rancher Passes Suddenly at Ranch Home
Came here in 1884 Served as Indian Agent and Post Master for Years

Funeral services for Henry Charles Goodale, 80, pioneer Rosebud County rancher were
conducted Sunday afternoon at thefamily residence at Brandenburg, with Rev. R.R. Price
of the Episcopal church of Miles City and Bishop Daniels of Montana Diocese officiating.
T. W. Carolan of Forsyth sang “One Sweet Solemn Thought”

Mr. Goodale was born in Monroe Michigan, June 6, 1859, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver RoseGoodale.
On November 25th 1880 he was united in marriage to Rachel Blair at North Platte, Nebraska.
To this union six children were born, three of who preceded him in death.

He came to Montana in 1884 to enter the employ of the Mule Shoe Cattle Company
and was later employed by James Sharpe ranging horses in the vicinity of Brandenburg
until 1894 when he took up a homestead on Tongue River. His ranch was designated as
the Brandenburg Post Office and Mr. Goodale served as Post Master for a number of years.

Last Rites For Mrs. Jas. Phillips

Lillian Edith Phillips, 76, died at her home in Forsyth Wednesday, Oct. 15.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 18, 2 p.m. from Beals Mortuary
with Rev. Marlin Foster officiating. Mrs. Jack Mees, soloist will sing “The Old

Rugged Cross” and “Jesus Holds My Hand.” Burial will be in the ForsythCemetery.

She was born the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Henry C. Goodale March 30th, 1893 at
the family home in Brandenberg. She lived in North Dakota and New Mexico for a
short time and the past few months made her home with her husband in Forsyth.

Survivors include her husband James, and son Joseph in Forsyth; sons Harry,
Spokane; James, and Gerald, Ashland; William, Ft Smith, Ark.; daughters, Mrs.
Marie Kerr, Bowman, N. Dak.; Mrs. Etelma Drung, Ashland, Ore.; Mrs. Janie
 Plumlee, North Plains Ore.; a sister, Mrs. John L. Flower, Brandenberg
and 30 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Buck Boouslaugh,Les Snodgrass, Ray Wilbur, Charles Macklengburg,
 George Wagner and Mr.
Wickman.

Pioneer of Brandenberg Country Is Being Laid At Rest There Today
Mrs. Rachel Goodale, long time resident of Brandenberg, died at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Carrie Flowers, Jan. 15, 1591. She was 91 years of age.

Funeral services are being held at Beals chapel today at 2 o’clock
 with Rev. Eric Wright of the Miles City Episcopal church, officiating. Mrs. Jack Mee’s
will sing “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Lead Kindly Light”. Interment will be made
at the ranch home at Brandenberg beside her husband and two daughters who preceded her in death.

Pallbearers are six of her seven grandsons: Richard Flowers, Henry J Goodale,
Joe R. Phillips, James C. Phillips Jr., Gerald Phillips and William Phillips.

Rachel Margarite Blair Goodale was born at Dauphin, Pennsylvania, Jan. 10, 1860,
 of Scotch-Irish parents, who died when she was a small child and was reared
 in the home of an aunt. Her childhood was spent at Williamsport, Shamakin
and Selims Grove in the beautiful Jan iata and Suquehanna river country.
She moved with her aunt’s family to Dunlap Iowa and later to North Platte,
 Nebraska, where she met and married H.C. Goodale on Nov. 25, 1880.

They came to the Tongue river country in 1886 and Mrs. Goodale had resided
the continuously, rearing her family, except for brief periods, when Mr. Goodale was
in the Indian services at Lame Deer, Mont., Lower Brule, S.D., and Elbowoods,

N.D. Mr. Goodale passed away July 7, 1939 and Mrs. Goodale lived with her daughter.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Flowers and Mrs. J.C. Phillips of Broadus, Mont.,
 and one son, George C. Goodale, Hysham, Mont., 13 grandchildren and 17
 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Goodale was one of the last of the real pioneers of the Brandenberg area.
Her home, on the original homestead was always open to the stranger, as well
as their many friends.

Alex Seleg
    ROSEBUD - Alex Seleg, 78, of Rosebud, died Wednesday, May 6,
 1998, at the Deaconess Medical Center in Billings.
    Alex was born June 5, 1919, in Roundup, the son of Steve and
 Margaret Gaydos Seleg. He spent his youth and began his schooling in
 Roundup, in March of 1931 he came to Carterville with his family
 where he attended the Carterville school. Alex worked on the family
 farm as well as for others in the area.
    On Aug. 2, 1953, he married Irene Owens in Forsyth, they lived in
 Rosebud and operated the family ranch up until his death.
    Alex was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic
 Church in Forsyth. He enjoyed gardening and attending the Rosebud
 County Fair, also fairs in Miles City and Billings displaying his garden
 products. Alex loved baseball, both as a player and a spectator, as
 well as bowling and his grandchildren.
    He is survived by his wife, Irene Seleg of Rosebud; one son, Allan
 and his wife, Diana Seleg of Rosebud; two daughters, Connie and her
 husband, Jimmy Lucas of Florence, Colo., and Rosie Seleg of Rosebud;
 his brother, Joe Seleg of Rosebud; three grandchildren, Tracy, Trina
 and Tim Lucas; six nieces and two nephews.
    Prayer Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 8, 1998, with
 Funeral Mass to follow at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception
 Catholic Church in Forsyth. Interment will follow in the Forsyth
 Catholic Cemetery. Beals Mortuary in Forsyth in charge of the
 arrangements.


Marie Weamer

 FORSYTH - Marie Weamer, 89, of Forsyth died Tuesday, May 5,
 1998, at her home.

 Marie was horn Sept. 18, 1908 in Baird, Wash., the daughter of Walter
 and Virgie Rice Bechtol. She spent her youth and attended schools in
 Washington and Oregon before coming to Big Timber with her family.
 She graduated from Sweet Grass County High School in 1926 and
 attended Billings Business College.

 On Dec. 17, 1929, she married Edward Weamer in Bozeman, they
 lived on a ranch 12 miles east of Big Timber, and they moved to Big
 Timber in 1937, coming to Forsyth in 1944, where she and her husband
 worked in Gambles Store. They opened Weamers Jewelry in 1947. She
 retired in 1981, and has lived in Forsyth since.

 Marie was a member of the Forsyth Federated Church in Forsyth, the
 Order of Eastern Star Bethlehem Chapter 27, serving as Past Worthy
 Matron, Forsyth Homemakers Club, and was active in the
 Democratic Party.

 She is survived by his son, Budd and his wife Karen Weamer of
 Forsyth; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Weamer of Billings; one brother,
 Walter Bechtol of Elmira, Ore.; one sister Virginia Pearson of Salem,
 Ore.; four grandchildren: Kim Morton and Kane Weamer both of
 Martinez, Calif., Karla Mahan of Santiago, Chile, and Rick Weamer
 of Billings; and five great-grandchildren; she was preceded in death
 by her husband, Ed in 1972; and a son, Don in 1981.

 Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at the
 Forsyth Federated Church. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at the
 Mountainview Cemetery in Big Timber. Memorials may be made to
 the Federated Church or to the charity of ones choice. Beals Mortuary
 of Forsyth is in charge of the arrangements
