Olive “Ollie” Ryan

Olive “Ollie” Ryan, 100, left this world on Feb. 15, 2007,
while residing at the Stillwater Community Hospital extended
care facility. Olive was born near Preston, Wisc. on
 Sept. 1,1906, to John and Hilda Tinenes. Her family relocated to Montana
in 1909 and homesteaded near Molt.
Olive graduated from Laurel High School and then went on
to graduate in 1921 with a nursing degree from Henry Ford
 Hospital in Detroit, Mich. From 1942 through 1945, Olive
 served in the Army Nurse corps and was stationed in England
during part of WWII.
She married Bob Ryan in 1947 and the couple lived in
Livingston until moving to Reed Point in 1951. There
they owned the Midway Bar and Café until 1960. Olive
went to work at the Stillwater Community Hospital as
an RN until her retirement in 1980. She enjoyed her
family and loved to have family gatherings at her
home in Columbus. Olive always enjoyed playing cards
 with her nephew, Jimmy, working her daily crossword
 puzzled and having Bible study with Florence Kem.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the
wonderful staff at Stillwater Community Hospital for
all their love and care they gave to Olive on a daily
 basis. Olive leaves behind many nieces and nephews
who will dearly miss her but wish her a happy journey.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday,
 Feb. 22, 2007, at Smith Funeral Chapel in Columbus. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, at Smith Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to
the Stillwater Youth Center in Columbus.

William Earl Haggerty

Command Sergeant Major (Ret) William “Bill” Earl Haggerty, 77,
 of Edgar, Mont., passed away at St. Vincent Medical Center in Billings.
Bill was born on January 16, 1930, in Glendive, the son of
William and Florence (Guay) Haggerty. He was raised and educated
 in the Glendive area and worked several jobs before he joined
 the Army. His military service spanned more than 20 years during
 which time he received many awards and medals including the
 Bronze Star, several Meritorious Service Medals and Commendation
 Medals. He retired from the Army as a Command Sergeant Major
on June 30, 1974.
Bill is survived by his wife, Beverly of Edgar; two daughters
Josephine (Joe) Harper of Grand Junction, Colo., and Suzanne
Haggerty of Austin, Texas; a sister, Joan (Donnie) Dann of
Terry; three step-daughters: Jody Allen of Emigrant, Jennifer
 (Timothy) Cihal of Spokane, Wash., and Carla (Thomas) Huff of
 Holly Springs, N.C.; 13 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews
 and relatives.
Upon retirement Bill enjoyed wood working, remodeling, hunting,
 fishing, and playing cards.
Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 19, at
St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Laurel with visitation
 beginning at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors followed at
 Rockvale Cemetery. A luncheon was held at the Edgar School
Gymnasium. The Remington Letcher Memorial Chapel has bee
entrusted with the arrangements.



Ervin “Doc” Bell died Jan. 25, 2007, just short of his 93 birthday.
 He was born July 12, 1914, to Alice and Bill Bell in Fisthtail.
The family moved to Absarokee in 1924 and he graduated from
Absarokee High School in 1933.
The fall of that year he went to Eastern normal School.
His first School he taught at was at Stockade.
In 1940 he married Louise Lesnik.
He managed a Safeway Store in Big Timber.
They had two children, Sharon, who died when she was six and a son.
They moved to California and another son was born.
His wife proceeded him in death when she was 80.
He is survived by his two sons, a sister, Betty Bell
 Mussetter of Livingston.

Walter A. Martinez, Jr.

Rio Grande County resident Walter A. Martinez Jr., 46, passed
 away Feb. 4, 2007, in the remote San Juan Mountains. Walter
was born in Alamosa, Colo. On Aug. 30, 1960. He graduated
from Creede High School and then attended Western State in
Gunnison.
Coaching the girl’s high school basketball team at Creede
and boating with his wife and five sons in the summer were
some of his favorite pastimes.
