Sgt Robert Gary Hayes, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Hiddenite, North Carolina.
Sergeant Robert Gary Hayes was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Selective Service and a Draftee, SGT Hayes served our country until January 10th, 1969 in Gia Dinh, South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was married. It was reported that Robert died from an undetermined explosion. His body was recovered. Robert was born on January 15th, 1948 in Hiddenite, North Carolina. SGT Hayes is on panel 35W, line 065 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.
He is the Son of Mr R.Sanford and Ocie Barnette Hayes, the husband of Mrs Mima J. Fox Hayes, Hiddenite, North Carolina. He was the brother to, Mary Ann H Winchell & Dorothy H. Kerley
He served with Delta Company, 4th Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 199th Infanty Brigade, USARV.
He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Bronze Star Medal, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
