US Marine LCPL James Thomas Byrd, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Wadesboro, NC. James was born January 3, 1948 in Wadesboro, Anson County, North Carolina

US Marine Lance Corporal James Thomas Byrd was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, LCPL Byrd served our country until February 28th, 1967 in Quang Tri, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old and was not married. It was reported that James died from small arms fire or grenade. His body was recovered. LCPL Byrd is on panel 15E, line 113 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.

He was the son of Mr and Mrs James Byrd, Box 210, Moore's Lake Road, Wadesboro, NC.

He served with Mike Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd MAF.

He was awarded The Combat Action Ribbon(CAR), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.

Burial: Parson Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Lilesville, Anson Co., North Carolina
