US Marine LCPL John Tillman III, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Lilesville, NC.
US Marine Lance Corporal John Tillman III was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, LCPL Tillman served our country until March 1st, 1968 in Quang Tri, South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was not married. It was reported that John died from artillery fire. His body was recovered. John was born on June 30th, 1947 in Lilesville, North Carolina. LCPL Tillman is on panel 42E, line 025 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.
He was the son of Mr John Tillman Jr, Route #1, Box 158, Lilesville, NC.
He served with India Company, 1st Marines Regiment, 9th Marine Amphibious Brigade, 1st Marine Division, 3rd Marine Amphibious Forces.
He was awarded The Combat Action Ribbon(CAR), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, One Gold Stat, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.
Burial: Flat Rock Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Wadesboro, Anson Co., North Carolina
