Cpl Ronnie Gene Greene, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Newland, NC.
Corporal Ronnie Gene Greene was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Selective Service and a Draftee, CPL Greene served our country until July 20th, 1969 in Binh Dinh, South Vietnam. He was 22 years old and was not married. It was reported that Ronnie died from an undetermined explosion. His body was recovered. CPL Greene is on panel 20W, line 025 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.
OBITUARY; RONNIE G. GREENE DIES IN VIETNAM JULY 20:
Services for PFC Ronnie Gene Greene, 22, of Newland, son of Mr and Mrs Rheuban C. Greene of Newland, Route 1, who was killed in action July 20 in Vietnam, wil be held at 2pm, Thursday in Roaring Creek Baptist Church. The Reverend Garfield Hughes will officiate. Burial will be in Hughes Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers wil be Steve, Leonard, Sonny, Spencer and ALbert Hughes and Arvile Webb. A military detachment from Fort Jackson, SC will conduct grave side rites with full Military Honors. Surviving in addition to the parents are a brother, Chester Greene on Newland, Route 1; a sister, Mrs Allen stout of Dallas, NC, and the maternal grandparents, Mr and Mrs Nat Garner of Roan Mountain, Tennessee. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral home is in charge.
Ronnie served with A Troop, 1st Battalion, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, USARV.
He was the Son of Mr and Mrs Rheuben C Greene, Route #1, Box 205, Newland, NC.
He was awarded The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.
