CALDWELL, Tod R.; was born in Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina, in 1818; graduated at the University of that State in 1840; studied law and come to the bar in 1842; served in the State Legislature from 1842 to 1844; was a State Senator in 1850; Lieutenant-Governor in 1868; in 1872 was elected Governor of the State.  Died at Hillsborough, North Carolina, July 11, 1874.
