Edith B. Allen

Edith Barus Allen, 90, of Valdese, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Valdese General Hospital. Born in New York, Sept. 2, 1907, she was the daughter of the late John Barus and Henrietta Jacumin Barus. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Valdese. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Allen; five brothers, Harry Barus, Henry Barus, Raymond Barus, Johnny Barus, and Frank Barus; a daughter Carolyn Allen; and a grandson. Surviving are: a daughter, Doris Aikens Owens of Valdese; a sister, Gladys B. Sigmon of Valdese; and a granddaughter. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Valdese with Rev. Jeff Johnson. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 217 St. Germaine Ave. S.E., Valdese, N.C., 28690. Bass-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
