To his Excellency the President of the U. States

Your petitioner Thomas F Womack of Caswell County North Carolina, would most respectfully and humbly show to your Excellency that he is a citizen of said county & state, that he never was in the army or Navy of the so called confederate States, that he was & is true and loyal in heart & feeling to the U. States Government. Your petitioner in order to evade the conception _____ which was inexorable in its demands, accepted the position of Sub tithing agent for the County of Caswell to prevent going in the ranks. Subsequently when the Class of persons were ordered to the army, your petitioner procured a contract to furnish guel for the N C RailRoad, which releved him from going into the ranks, in which later pardon he remained unable the close of this rebellion. Your petitioner has a large family entirely dependant upon his exertions for support: Under the provisions of your Excellencys proclamation, your peititioner hopes to attain full pardon, promising to be a faithful & loyal citizen of the U States and as in duty bound he will ever pray---

I, Thos F. Womack do solemnly swear, or affirm, in presence of Almight God, that I will henceforth faithfully support, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and the Union of the States thereunder: and that I will, in like manner, abide by and faithfully support all Laws and Proclamations which have been made during the existing rebellion with reference to the emancipation of slaves: SO HELP ME GOD.
