To his Excellency, Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States:
I am instructed by a vote of a large meeting of loyal men of Hyde County, held on Friday, Jan. 10th, to forward to your Excellency a copy of the apprended resolutions, adopted by said meeting. I will further say that our citizens are most anxious to be represented in Congress, and we hope some means may be provided, by which we may carry out this wish.
I am dear sir very respectfully,
Your ob'dt serv't

Resolutions, adopted by a meeting of citizens of Hyde County, North Carolina, held at Hatteras, Jan. 10th, 1862.
Resolved, that we have learned the fact of the rejection of our Representative, Charles Henry Fost, with deep regret; and this is the sentiment of his contituents, and of our whole people, without a solitary exception.
Resolved, that our confidence in Col. Foster is undiminished; and that we will stand by him as he has stood by us until he and we shall obtain the recognition which is our due.
Pg. 2
Resolved, that we will still insist upon our right, as American citizens and loyal North Carolina, to be represented in the Congress of the United States; and to enjoy all the political privileges which belong to us as such.
Resolved, that our vital interests require that we should have a representation in Congress; and we therefore recommend to the people to attend at the different precincts, to hold an election for that purpose, on Thursday, January 30th.
Resolved, that a copy of these resolutions be sent to his Excellency, the President of the United States, and tot he two Houses of Congress.
