Rev. George Harold Chilton
 
 
The Rev. Dr. George Harold Chilton, 84, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008 after a brief stay at Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been battling cancer for about 15 years. He was born May 22, 1924 to the late Risdom and Nanny Chilton. He is survived by Alice Christine Martin Chilton, his wife for over 65 years; sons, Jim Chilton and wife, Jane, Paul Chilton and wife, Jean, and Lee Chilton and wife, Carolyn; grandchildren, Karen Martin, Brian Chilton, Stacey Lente, Randall Chilton and Amanda Rising. Great-Grandchildren are Rebecca and Colby Martin and Jacob and Justin Lentz.

He was predeceased by brothers, Jim, Russell, Willie and Charlie Chilton, and sisters, Lottie Poteat, Ethel Pickeral, Frances Branch and Annie Vernon. He was also predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Chris Chilton. He became a Christian in 1953 and was ordained into the ministry in 1955. He started Field Street Mission in 1957 which organized into Piedmont Baptist Church, Reidsville, NC, in 1958. In 1959 he became pastor of Holland Road Baptist Church for 39 and one half years. In 1958 he graduated from Piedmont Bible College at Winston-Salem, N.C. and received his Doctorate from Greensboro Bible Institute in 1985. He was a friend to many pastors and assisted in ordination of more than 20 pastors. While at Holland Road Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the New Heights Baptist Church, Highway 14, Reidsville, N.C. by the Rev. Dr. Harold Venable and the Rev. Dr. S. L. Greeson. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home, Danville, Va. At other times, the family will be at the residence at 242 Oak Hill Farm Road, Pelham.
