Jenkins, Betty Joe Collins
DOBSON — Mrs. Betty Joe Collins Jenkins, 71, of Dobson, passed away at her home on Wednesday morning, Nov. 12, 2008. She was born in Horry County, S.C., on June 29, 1937. She is the daughter of the late Oscar Collins and the late Velma Adams Melia and stepfather, Thomas Francis Melia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Leo Jenkins; and two sons, Chester Lee Jenkins and Sammy Leo Jenkins. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and was retired from YVEDDI where she loved to help her friends and family. Surviving her are her sons and daughter-in-laws, Steve and Tonya Jenkins of Jonesville, Buddy and Diane Jenkins, Dwight and Twana Jenkins, Roger and fianc/ Stacey Hodges and Nancy Jenkins, all of Dobson; and her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Kenneth Alger of Summerville, S.C. She has 10 grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was very blessed with her sister in Christ, Audrey Joiner of Elkin; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at Second Chance Church with the burial to follow in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Terry Coe, the Rev. Barlow Stanley and the Rev. Billy Joe Jenkins will be conducting the services. The family will receive friends at Second Chance Church on Friday from 5 p.m. until. Her body will remain at the church until time of service. There will be no formal visitation held at the funeral home. Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the Jenkins family.
