George Wilson, Vance leader, dead at 82.
TOWNSVILLE -- The funeral for Mr. George Thomas Wilson, 82, of
Route 5, Henderson, in the Townsville community, who died
Tuesday, March 7, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Rock
Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Gary Brummitt. Burial will
be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Wilson was a native of Vance
County and a retired farmer. He was
a graduate of Townsville High School and Smithfield Massey
Business College in Richmond, Va. Mr. Wilson was a lifetime
member of Rock Spring Baptist Church, where he was a deacon,
Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher.
From 1951 to 1970, Mr. Wilson served on the Vance County Board of Education and as
chairman from 1952 to 1970. He was appointed to the board of
trustees of Vance-Granville
Community College in 1972 and became chairman of the board in
July 1977, serving until 1983. Mr. Wilson was on the board of
directors of the Vance-Granville
Community College Endowment Fund Corp. from 1978 to 1989.
In 1982, he was the recipient of the Outstanding Citizen of
the Year Award presented by the Henderson-Vance County Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Wilson served as director of the N.C. Farm Bureau and
director and president of the Vance County Farm Bureau. Other community
involvements included the Vance County
Cattlemen's Association, H. Leslie Perry Library Board and
director of the Townsville Volunteer Fire Department. He was a
charter member of the Townsville Lions Club.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nell Caudle Wilson; a
daughter, Mrs. Cornelia Wilson Garrison; three sisters, Mrs.
Julia W. Estes of Drexel, Mrs. Edith W. Potts of Kernersville
and Mrs. Elizabeth W. Berry of Graham; three brothers, Mr.
Fredrick H. Wilson Sr. of Townsville, Mr. William Henry Wilson
of Henderson and Mr. Andrew J. Wilson; two grandchildren; and
two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
today at Flowers Funeral Home.

GREYSTONE -- Ms. Angelin
Patricia Thomas, 43, died Friday, March 10, at Maria
Parham Hospital in Henderson.
A native of Vance County,
Ms. Thomas was a longtime member of Brookston Baptist Church,
where she served as Sunday school secretary, Bible school
director and Ladies' League president. She was a member of the
Young Adult Choir and was a volunteer for ACTS, Maria Parham
Hospital and the Vance County
Sunday School Convention.
Ms. Thomas graduated from Vance
Senior High School and Vance-Granville
Community College, and she attended Computer College in Reston,
Va. She owned and operated the Angel Printing Co.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at
Brookston Baptist Church by the Rev. Thomas Smith. Burial will
be in the church cemetery.
Ms. Thomas is survived by her husband, Mr. Larry Williams of
Henderson; a son, Decarlos Terrell Williams of the home; her
father, Mr. Ernest Thomas of the home; and a granddaughter.
The family will receive visitors from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Tuesday at E. C. Terry's Funeral Service, and other times at the
home.

HENDERSON -- Mr. George W. Holden
Jr., 58, of 132
Edgewood Drive, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, in Duke University
Hospital in Durham after a long illness.
Mr. Holden, a native of Vance County,
was the son of Ms. Nella Sharpe Holden of Henderson and the late
George Wall Holden Sr. He was founder and managing partner of
Holden, Moss, Knott, Clark & Taylor, P.A., Certified Public
Accounts, president of Holden Oil Co. Inc and
secretary-treasurer of Through the Barn Door Furniture Co. Inc.
In prior years, Mr. Holden was a member of numerous
organizations, including being on the board of directors for Vance
Academy Inc., having served as treasurer for four years; member
of the Henderson Country Club, Vance County
Housing Authority and Henderson Swim Association; president and
treasurer of the Salvation Army; and member of the Henderson-Vance
County Chamber of Commerce, Nations
Banks local board and Henderson Rotary Club.
Mr. Holden was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of
North Carolina and served in the National Guard and Army. He was
a member of First United Methodist Church, where he was a former
Sunday school teacher, member of the administrative board and
treasurer. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in
First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jerry J. Juren and the
Rev. Dr. Marion D. Lark. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. In
addition to his mother, Mr. Holden is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Mary Ann Powell Holden; a daughter, Mrs. Jenny Holden Gomatos of
Cary; two sons, Mr. George Wall Holden III and Mr. Thomas Powell
Holden, both of Raleigh; and two grandchildren. The family will
receive visitors at the home. Memorials may be made to the

HENDERSON -- Mrs. Daisy Lowry
Breedlove, 87, of formerly of the Middleburg
community, died Saturday, May 13, at a Henderson nursing home.
A Vance County
native, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Lucy Mengia
Lowry. She was the widow of Marvin Green Breedlove Sr. She was a
homemaker and a member of Middleburg Baptist Church, where she
served as organist for many years, and a member of the
Missionary Society.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Middleburg
Baptist Church by the Rev. Stephen DeOrnellas and the Rev.
Rowell Lane. Burial will follow in Middleburg Cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Rachel B. Thompson of
Charlotte; four sons, R. Thomas Breedlove, Ralph Breedlove,
Marvin Breedlove Jr., and Ernest Breedlove, all of Henderson;
five sisters, Mrs. Rose Hill of Columbus, Ga., Mrs. Myrtle
Waite, Mrs. Ethel Rogers, Mrs. Helen Moore and Mrs. Lottie
Grissom, all of Henderson; a brother, Charlie P. Lowry Jr. of
Henderson; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. today at
Flowers Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Elizabeth
and Thomas Breedlove at 210 Cherry St.

HENDERSON -- Mr. James Thomas ''J.T.''
Barnes, 79, of Route 4, Henderson, died Monday, Jan.
9, at his home on Lynn- bank Road.
Mr. Barnes, a native of Vance County,
was the son of the late Lewis E. and Sadie Stone Barnes. Before
retiring, he was employed with Roses Stores Inc. for 44 years.
Mr. Barnes was a member of First Congregational Christian
Church. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, where
he held various offices and was a charter member of the Bearpond
Fire Department. Mr. Barnes was also a member of the Forty and
Eight Society and the Zeb Vance Ruritan Club.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in the Flowers
Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. J.H. Daniels and the Rev.
Lynwood Boyette. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Florine Brame Barnes; three
daughters, Mrs. Gayle B. Stanton and Miss Darlene Barnes, both
of Henderson, and Mrs. Pamela B. Bullis of Millville, Del.; a
brother, Mr. William C. Barnes of Henderson; a sister, Mrs.
Ladie B. Daniel of Henderson; his stepmother, Mrs. Ruby W.
Barnes of Henderson; five grandchildren; and a
great-granddaughter.
The family will receive visitors at the home.
