Mrs. Naomi Ennis Paschall passed this life on Wednesday, July
2, 1997 at Durham Regional Hospital after a 16-year struggle
with heart disease.
She was born to Lovit Ennis and Nettie Lou Morrison Ennis on
September 7, 1911, in Harnett County,
North Carolina. Much of her young life was spent helping on her
family's farm in Johnston County. At
age 19, she moved to Durham County,
where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a devoted
Christian and member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
She was the loving mother of seven children, one of whom
predeceased her in 1989, James Allen Paschall. The other
children include: Betty Lou P. Ammons (widow of Raymond) of Red
Springs, Bobby Ross Paschall (Diane) of Mississippi, Norman
Paschall of Raleigh and Phyllis P. Honeycutt, Gloria Jean P.
Chamberlain and Teresa P. (Mel) Stolen of Durham. Mrs. Paschall
was the grandmother of 23 and the great-grandmother of 39
wonderful grandchildren.
She devoted her life to her family, yet wanted to be of
service to others. At the age of 42, she enrolled in the Watts
Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1954. She worked in
the Emergency Department of the former Watts Hospital for 22
years, retiring in 1976. She was an excellent nurse and care
giver of many patients during this time. She continued
friendships with several of her co-workers long after her
retirement.
For the past two years, Mrs. Paschall made her home with her
daughter, Teresa, in Durham. In 1981, she suffered the first of
several heart attacks, which progressively diminished her
strength and capabilities to care for herself. She was, for many
years, under the care of Dr. D. Edmund Miller of Durham. Among
many who gave our mother loving medical care, she would like us
to pay tribute to Triangle Heart Associates and Triangle
Hospice. She considered these people to be her friends, not just
care givers or medical personnel and she always had a big smile
and a hearty thank-you for them.
Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church on
Saturday, July 5, 1997 at 11 a.m. Her grandson, the Rev. Raymond
Ammons, Jr., will conduct the services. Burial will follow at
the family cemetery in Coats, Johnston County,
North Carolina. Flowers are permitted; however, those who wish
may make a contribution to the American Heart Association, 7320
Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231 or to Immanuel Baptist Church,
3573 Hillsborough Rd., Durham, NC 27705.
Family visitation will be held at Clements Funeral Home in
Durham on Friday, July 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. At other times the
family will gather at the home of Mel and Teresa Stolen, 2518
Preston Ave., Durham, NC.
