HENDERSON -- Dr. Millard Winston Wester, Jr.,
79, a resident of 211 Coleman Place, died Tuesday, February 22,
2005 at Duke Medical Center. A native of Vance
County, he was the son of the late
Millard Winston Wester, Sr. and Della Bryan Wester. He was a
Veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during World War II.
Dr. Wester was the founding physician of Henderson Family
Medicine Clinic, and started the Four County
Medical Association. He served as the county
Coroner and later as the Medical Examiner for Vance
County. After retirement he worked as
a consultant with NCDMV and DDS. He was a former City
Councilman, actively involved with Habitat For Humanity, and was
a member of the Kerr Lake Ensemble. In 1998 he was the recipient
of the Henderson-Vance Chamber
Citizen Of The Year Award, and in 2000 he received the E. Harvey
Estes Jr. MD Physician Community Service Award from the North
Carolina Medical Society. He was a member of the Henderson
Shrine Club, and the Henderson Rotary Club where he was a Paul
Harris Fellow. Dr. Wester loved First Baptist Church where he
was a Deacon, a teacher in the Wester-Blackwell Sunday School
Class, and played in the church ensemble.
Memorial services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at the
First Baptist Church by Dr. Paul A. Baxley.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Clardy "DeeDee"
Wester of the home; two daughters, Elizabeth "Liz"
Wester Roberts and husband, Tommy, of Lilburn, Georgia, Shelley
Wester Rose and husband, Robbie, of Johnson City, Tennessee; one
son, Dr. Millard Winston "Buddy" Wester, III and wife,
Sara "BeBe" Wester of Henderson; two brothers, William
Hudson Wester, II of Henderson, and Dr. Thad Bryan Wester of
Bald Head Island; seven grandchildren, Tracy Elizabeth Wester,
Millard Winston "Wes" Wester, IV, Frances Anne Rose,
John Robert Rose, Jr., Jennifer Bryan Rose, Lauren Elizabeth
Flowers, and Cameron Westbrook Flowers, five step-grandchildren
with eight great grandchildren in the Atlanta, Georgia area;
Danny and Laura Roberts, Hollyanne, Katelyn, Lindsey and Kenan;
Doug and Melinda Roberts, Tyler and Ethan; David and Candice
Roberts, Jordan and Nathan, Darrin Roberts, and Derrick Roberts.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 75, Henderson, N.C. 27536 in
support of the church's new mission vision.
Arrangements are by the J. M. White Funeral Home.
