HENDERSON - Helen McIntyre Arnold,
80, of 1245 Park Avenue, Henderson, died Monday, November 27,
2006, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Born in Vance County,
she was the daughter of the late James Thomas McIntyre and Addie
Lee Aycock McIntyre Martin. She was the widow of David Duke
Arnold.
Mrs. Arnold was a retired beautician. She was a member of
North Henderson Baptist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars
Ladies Auxiliary. She loved crafts, crocheting and knitting.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2006,
at 2 p.m. at Flowers Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Brent
Kasey and the Rev. Cleveland Harrison. Burial will follow in
Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Kokkeler Ellington, of
Henderson, and Brenda Kokkeler Ray, of Durham; a son, James
Thomas Kokkeler, of Wilmington; four grandchildren, Kim Jackson,
Angie Long, Lynn, and Jason Kokkeler; and three great
grandchildren, Hillary Jackson, Kaitlyn Jackson and Jessica
Kokkeler. She was preceded in death by a son, William Mathias
Kokkeler; a sister, Edith M. Abbott; and a stepbrother, James
William McIntyre.
The family received friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at
Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home
of Carolyn and Jimmy Ellington, 965 Forest Hills Drive,
Henderson.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Norman Haithcock, Buck
Stallings, Bobby Jackson, John Faucette, Charles Hilliard, R.A.
Harris, Al Taylor and Jesse Meacham.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the
Alzheimer's Association, Eastern North Carolina Chapter, 400
Oberlin Road, Suite 220, Raleigh, NC 275605; or to the American

HENDERSON -- John Rawls Mundy,
age 74, died Saturday, December 16, 2006, at Mayview
Convalescent Center in Raleigh. Born on May 27, 1932 in Vance
County, he was the son of the late
John Lewis Mundy and Nell Rawls Mundy. John was a graduate of
Henderson High School and the University of North Carolina,
where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity, and was a
Veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the First
United Methodist Church, the Men's Sunday School Class, was the
owner and operator of the former John Mundy's Florist for 46
years, and was selected as the North Carolina Florist of The
Year in 1993. He was a former President of the North Carolina
Florist Association and the Southern Retail Association. On
several occasions he was invited to decorate the White House in
Washington, DC for Holidays and at Presidential Inaugurations.
He was a former member of the Henderson Jaycees, Rotary Club,
The Vance County
Historical Society, and was a member of The Sons Of Confederate
Veterans. Mr. Mundy was also Chairman of the Vance
County Board Of Elections for
twenty-five years.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the
First United Methodist Church. Rev. Charles M. Cook and Rev.
Alvin M. Horne, brother-in-law of Mr. Mundy, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Rehoboth United Methodist Church
Cemetery.
He is survived by one daughter, Margaret Ellen Mundy McCoy
and husband, Patrick, of Wake Forest; one son, John Lewis Rawls
Mundy of Raleigh; two grandchildren, John Patrick McCoy and
Margaret Claire McCoy; and his beloved caregiver, Gail Hawkins.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. until
1:45 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist
Church. At other times they will be at the home of Margaret
Ellen and Patrick McCoy at 1540 Crenshaw Point in Wake Forest,
NC.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Tommy Thompson, Paul
Parrish, Tom Stegall, Ray Pulliam, Jack Turner, Ken Catlett,
Bill Brown, Tony Griffin, Andrew Newcomb, and Scott White.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be all members of the Men's
Sunday School Class and long-time florist friends.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be
made to The Frankie Lemmon Foundation, Inc., 2301 Stonehenge
Drive, Suite 102, Raleigh, NC 27615.

MONCURE - Marjorie Cawthorne
Hicks, 85, of 1325 Hargrove St., died Saturday night,
November 25, 2006, at Maria Parham Medical Center. She was a
retired Media Specialist for the Vance
County School System. She was a
member of First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Rose
Chapel of First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in
Sunset Gardens. She is survived by her husband, Ludie E. Hicks
Jr.; four daughters, Margy Hicks Trado, Jean Hicks Richardson,
Mary C. Hicks Granger and Christie Hicks Henry.
