HENDERSON -- Mr. Emmett Norton Bailey, Jr., 83, of 609 Spring Valley Road, died on Monday, March 31, 2008.
Mr. Bailey was a native of Vance County, the son of the late Emmett Norton Bailey Sr. and Lillie Isley Bailey. He lived in Durham until 1989. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the Grave Registration in France, England and Germany. Mr. Bailey was featured on CNN and the Discovery Channel on the History of World War II events. He was also invited by President Clinton for the D-Day activities. He was a member of the Air Force Association. Mr. Bailey retired from the Durham County Tax Office as a Tax Collector. He was a member of the Spring Valley Methodist Church in Henderson.
Surviving are his wife, Anne B. Bailey; two daughters, Nancy Bailey, of Henderson, Sandra Ladd and Roger, of Durham; one sister, Betty Jones, of Elon College and three grandchildren, Jeffrey Wayne Ladd and wife, Stephanie, Michael Dean Ladd and Kevin James Ladd.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Spring Valley Methodist Church with Rev. Ray Pearce officiating. Interment will be in the Baskett Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Ladd, Michael Ladd, Kevin Ladd, Curtis Brame, Eddie Jones and Aaron Beltz. The family will receive friends for one hour following the service in the church Fellowship Hall. Flowers are acceptable or memorial gifts may be made to Spring Valley Methodist Church 955 Spring Valley Road, Henderson NC 27537, for the building fund.

HENDERSON - Fred Raymond Hendrick, 77, a resident of 3764 Warrenton Road, died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at his home. He was a Vance County native.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict and attained the rank of staff sergeant. He was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church. He was retired from the Henderson Post Office after 28 years of loyal service as a city carrier.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean Abbott Hendrick; two sons, Maurice Wayne Hendrick and Steve Abbott Hendrick; and one brother, Lonnie Hendrick.
Graveside services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Cokesbury United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at the home at 3764 Warrenton Road.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

HENDERSON -- Edgar "Swanson" Hendley Jr., 77, of 120 Southside Estates Court, died Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Maria Parham Medical Center.
Mr. Hendley retired as a lieutenant after 38 years with the Vance County Fire Department. He was a member of Harriett Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 2 at 3 p.m. at Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Margie Collins Hendley; a daughter, Patsy H. Tippett; a son, Eddie Hendley.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the home of David and Pat Barnett, 105 Marsha Ave.
Memorials may be made to the church.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.
