January 11, 1884

Frozen to Death
Valley City, D.T., Jan. 10-Last night, as a party of three drunken Norwegians were driving from here to their home, fourteen miles distant, one of them, named Carl Abrahamson, fell out of the sled and was not missed until the party got home. They at once returned, but were unable to find the man. This morning he was found, so badly frozen that he died at noon. [Submitted by S. Williams]

Victims of the Blizzard
Minneapolis, Feb. 25-The Journals Valley City, Dakota, special says: The body of Fred Nelson was found 5 miles from this place where he started in the blizzard. his two children are not yet found. While looking for these, the body of Thorwald Gunderson was found. Gunderson had left Clark City for his claim just before the blizzard and the finding of his body was the first known that he was lost.  [Submitted by S. Williams]

March 7, 1884

Blizzard Victims
Minneapolis, March 1-The Journal's Valley City special says: The body of the Nelson children victims of the late blizzard have been found. The body of the youngest was found in a snow cave which had been dug by her father for the purpose of providing protection for the children from the storm. The oldest child left the cave and wandered off about a mile where her body was found. The bodies of the father and children will be buried at Sanborn tomorrow. The body of the father was found several days since.  [Submitted by S. Williams]

The famous Kindred farm at Valley City has been purchased by S.K. Nester of Genesee, N.Y.

July 25, 1884

The Valley City baseball club played with the Mandan nine Monday, the result being a victory for the Valley City boys by a score of 18 to 9. Quite a number of Bismarckers went to Mandan to witness the game.

August 22, 1884

County Attorney Mills, of Valley City, has been appointed deputy district attorney for Barnes county by district attorney, George P. Flannery, of Bixmarck.
