St. Paul, Dec. 18-A fire in Bismarck, Dakota, this morning, started in a restaurant on Main street, and burned twelve stores, and the building adjoining the Sheridan House was saved with difficulty. Loss, $50,000; insurance small.

A Bismarck Dakota, dispatch on the 24th stated that the worst snow storm ever known in the Northwest has raged there for two days. Travel on the Northern Pacific has been interrupted for two months by a succession of storms and but three trains had arrived from the East since February 1st. [Submitted by Shauna Williams]

At the capitol building at Bismarck, Dakota, on Tuesday, the clamp on the elevator broke, precipitating the elevator and six men on it to the bottom, a distance of fifty feet. William Baxton had all his ribs broken from his spine, and will die. The other five, named Daniel O'Neil, Andrew Johnson, Jot Wittwer, Al. Hoffman and Oscar Sanburn, were badly hurt and may die. The Chicago Journal says that Rain-in-the-Face, the great Sioux Chieftain, has applied for a position on the police force of Bismarck, Dakota. If he gets it he will change his name to Take-a-Nap-in-the-Middle-of-the-Night. [Submitted by Shauna Williams]
