The weather was fine and everybody turned out to give the capital commission a grand reception. The special train bearing the commission and party arrived about 3 o'clock p.m. and they were met at the train by a committee of citizens with two bands of music. They were escorted to carriages and conveyed to all parts of the city, followed by a procession of carriages nearly a mile in length. In the evening an elegant reception and banquet was given them in the new and commodious Masonic Hall. The festivities continued until near midnight. The commissioners expressed themselves highly pleased with the situation of Jamestown and its enterprise. The bid of Jamestown is a one hundred thousand dollars certified check and one thousand acres of land within the city limits, with a guarantee of realizing $500,000 for the sale of the lands, for which a bond is executed, signed by men representing over two millions of capital. - Contributed by Nancy Piper
