Anders D. Peterson Family

 

One of Clay County's First Settlers

I think the history listed may be a bit wrong about who the first woman was.

 

According to our family history, Johanna, her son Charles Peterson, and her

brother Gabriel Pearson, went to Red Oak Iowa, in 1869-1870, then joined

Anders in Saronville. 

 

Their second son, Anders “John” was born (the first white boy born in Clay

County as some histories say) in 1871. 

 

My grandfather was their third son, Albert, born in 1873. 

 

They had nine children altogether, and six lived.

   Missing: Andrew John 16, and Mina (Minnie) born 2 years later.

 

Anna died at age 15, Selma and Gustaf died at 9. Gustaf and Anna were both taken within weeks of each other from diphtheria. 

Many of them are buried in the Saronville Lutheran Cemetery.
