 Deuel county came into existence as a result of an election held in November, 1888, and was organized

    in January, 1889.  

     

     Previously it was a part of Cheyenne county and is named in

    honor of Harry Porter Deuel (1836-1914), a pioneer citizen of Omaha, Nebraska
