Corrine (Jeffres) Kesterson
Wife of Robert Cary Kesterson
On May 6,
2005, the Lord accepted another Angel into His loving embrace. Beloved Mother,
Grandma, Sister, Caregiver and Friend, Corrinne "Corky" M. Kesterson, 78, passed
away with family around her, if not in person, forever in spirit and heart.
In
honor of Corky's wishes, she was cremated with no services. There will be a
memorial luncheon held May 27, 2005, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at her home, 113 Lynn
Lane, Grand Island, where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and
Bill Bottolfson, and her granddaughter, Jamie Peterson.
We want to welcome
family and friends during this time to celebrate her life and to share memories
of the beautiful woman she was.
Corky was born Nov. 12, 1926, to Floyd and
Willamena "Mena" Jeffres at Scotia. She attended school in Greeley and Scotia,
where she graduated in 1944. She worked through her high school years at the
Scotia Cafi.
Corky married Maurice "Morry" Johnson in 1944, and had five
children. In addition to being a full-time wife and mother, Corky also found
time to work on the family dairy, drive school bus for several years and work at
the Scotia Cafi throughout the marriage. And if all that wasn't enough, she also
always put a home-cooked meal on the table.
Corky moved to Grand Island in 1973,
and worked at Delicious Foods and the Nebraska Veterans Home for two years until
an injury to her back forced her to change her line of work.
Corky married again
to Robert C. Kesterson in 1976. During this marriage Corky worked at the
Goodrich Dairy Store until the latter part of 1980, at which time she moved to
Washington State to be closer to her family. She worked on a dairy, milking
cows, and also drove a gravel truck until her return to Grand Island a year
later.
Corky then drove and tended the Goodrich Dairy Mobile Store, delivering
and selling Goodrich Dairy products to surrounding towns and communities, until
forced to retire early due to serious arthritic problems.
Corky spent her retirement years creating beautiful crafts. Crochet and
Counted Cross Stitch were her specialties. Some of her Cross Stitch work can be
seen from coast to coast in the form of wedding pillows. Corky was an avid
reader, enjoyed Nebraska football and particularly enjoyed spending time with
her family. In her younger years, Corky loved bowling, cooking, canning and
baking.
Corky is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Bradley K.
Johnson of Phoenix, Terrance "Terry" M. Johnson of Centralia, Wash., Douglas
"Doug" F. and Kim Johnson of Onalaska, Wash., and a daughter and son-in-law,
Tammy M. and Bill Bottolfson of Grand Island. 12 grandchildren and three
stepgrandsons, 10 great-grandchildren, soon to be 11, 11 stepgrandchildren, and
a reat-great-grandson, a special "adopted" grandson and a special "adopted"
great-granddaughter. Two sisters and a brother-in-law, Gayle and Floyd Wilson of
Elba and Caroljean Samway of Grand Island, a brother and sister-in-law, Donald
"Mick" and Rose Jeffres of Burwell, and a sister-in-law, Mavis Jeffres of Grand
Island.
Corky was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Dennis Dean
Johnson, husband Robert, a brother, DeLysle "Jeff" Jeffres and a sister, Darlene
Brinkley.
Memorials are suggested to the family or the donor's choice with
special consideration given to the Hospice Program or Midland Area Agency on
Aging. Kleine Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
